A quasi-experimental with one- group pre-test and post-test design was applied in this research. 29 students of a public junior highschool in Tabanan-Bali were involved in this research. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test close-ended and open-ended questionnaires. Paired sample t-test was implemented to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were examined descriptively using Miles and Huberman’s flow model. It was found that the use of Lipi Poleng presented a significant effect on students’ learning attitudes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the implementation of the school literacy movement program on reading text news skills. The method used is pre-experimental design, the research design used is one group pre-test post-test design. Based on the results of calculations using the t-test, the value of tcount is 21.07 and t table (ɑ = 5%, db = n-35 = 34) of 1.6905. Because tcount (21.07)> t table (1.6905) this means that it must be accepted, so it can be agreed on the application of the school literacy movement program on the report text reading skill.

Teaching EFL is not easy. The inadequate initial learning, the learning facilities, and the communication gap between the teacher and the students create delicate factors. They need more understanding from the teacher especially when teaching Hearing-Impaired Students (HIS). The purpose of this phenomenological study is to describe, narratively, the teacher’s lived experiences in teaching English to HIS. Several stages as the preparation for this study involved the observations at the school, the students, the teachers, and the teaching-learning processes. The data were gained by conducting in-depth interview. The guided interviewed focused on: understanding of the students, the teaching, and the treatment. The collected data were classified and coded. In conclusion, the data reveal that, the teacher understands that her students are very unique because of their hearing impairment. It makes them have difficulty in writing and speaking but they still can learn.
