Abstract

Oil tankers are a type of vessel specifically designed to transport oil or its derivatives. One of the preventive safety measures employed on these ships is the inert gas system—a system that generates gas with low oxygen content to prevent explosions onboard. However, an increase in oxygen concentration in the inert gas is a common issue encountered, which makes optimizing the performance of the inert gas system a matter of serious concern. The methodology adopted in this research is descriptive qualitative, with the inert gas system aboard MT. NORDDOLPHIN serving as the primary research object. Data collection was carried out through several approaches, including direct field observation, interviews with relevant personnel, and a literature review of technical documents such as instruction manuals and standard operating procedures (SOP) available on the vessel. The study demonstrates that the rise in oxygen content in inert gas is caused by inadequate maintenance of the fuel oil control valve and a dirty main burner, which leads to an imbalance in the combustion ratio. The effort undertaken to keep the oxygen level below the threshold of 4% involves lowering the correction factor on the boiler. This adjustment increases the fuel supply during combustion, which in turn raises the carbon dioxide concentration and lowers the oxygen level in the inert gas

Abstract

The optimization of cargo loading processes plays a crucial role in maritime logistics operations. This study is focused on examining jumbo bag loading procedures aboard MV Royal Glory, identifying various influencing factors, and establishing management methods for damaged jumbo bags. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data was collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation during sea practice. Research findings show that while loading procedures are systematically structured, their effectiveness remains limited as they rely on manual calculations and crew expertise without technological support. Three primary constraints identified include human resources, equipment and facilities, and cargo materials. Although measures for handling damaged jumbo bags have been implemented, preventive actions have not yet been adopted. This situation leads to reduced operational time efficiency and heightened occupational safety risks.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of ship crew health standards based on the 2006 Maritime Labor Convention at PT Meratus Line Surabaya and identify the obstacles faced. The 2006 Maritime Labor Convention is an international convention that regulates work standards and the welfare of seafarers, including health aspects that include comprehensive health checks before crews serve on board ships. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection methods through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that PT Meratus Line has carried out comprehensive Medical Check Up (MCU) examinations before crews on board, and issued health certificates according to the 2010 STCW standards. However, the implementation still faces various obstacles such as the limited number of competent medical personnel on board and the presence of prospective crew members who are declared unfit for duty due to health conditions. To overcome this, the company provides basic medical training to ship officers, provides medical facilities to crew members who are unfit for duty, and conducts regular health monitoring. In conclusion, although the implementation has been carried out in accordance with the provisions of the 2006 Maritime Labor Convention, it is still necessary to improve periodic evaluations and strengthen the training system to achieve optimal and sustainable ship crew health stan

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential of maritime natural resources in the Natuna region as one of Indonesia’s strategic areas. The research was conducted through a literature review method, collecting secondary data from government reports, scientific publications, and official statistics. The findings reveal that Natuna has significant capture fisheries potential with high economic value, although it remains threatened by illegal fishing activities. In the energy sector, Natuna holds large oil and gas reserves, including the development of the Forel and Terubuk fields as well as the Anambas block, which can support national energy security. Coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds exhibit high biodiversity and play an essential role in ecological balance, yet face pressures from human activities and environmental changes. Meanwhile, renewable energy potential such as offshore wind and ocean wave energy remains underutilized due to limited data and infrastructure. The study concludes that sustainable management of Natuna’s maritime resources requires an integrative approach through strengthened surveillance, improved infrastructure, further research, and local community empowerment to support Indonesia’s food security, energy independence, and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Ocean literacy is an essential competence for students in maritime vocational schools, considering the strategic role of the ocean in human life and sustainable development. This study aims to examine the strengthening of ocean literacy among Grade X Pelayaran Tayu vocational high school students through instruction based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ocean Literacy Framework. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants were Grade X students from a maritime vocational high school. Data were collected using an ocean literacy test and an attitude questionnaire, and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The findings indicate that instruction grounded in the NOAA Ocean Literacy Framework enhances students’ overall ocean literacy and fosters more positive attitudes toward ocean conservation. These results suggest that the NOAA Ocean Literacy Framework can be effectively adapted to vocational education contexts and contributes to the development of contextual and sustainable ocean education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of deep learning in IPAS instruction on disaster mitigation to enhance maritime disaster preparedness among students at SMK Pelayaran Tayu. Disaster mitigation is a critical competence in maritime vocational education due to its direct relevance to navigation safety and marine environmental protection. However, IPAS learning is often delivered in a theoretical and fragmented manner, limiting students’ preparedness in real maritime emergency situations. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a quasi-experimental design involving maritime vocational students. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests, disaster preparedness questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews. The deep learning approach was implemented through contextual problem-based activities using real maritime disaster scenarios, such as extreme weather, ship fires, and navigation hazards. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ maritime disaster preparedness competence, including knowledge, attitudes, and decision-making skills related to disaster mitigation. Qualitative findings further reveal increased student engagement and contextual understanding of maritime risks. This study contributes to the development of IPAS maritime learning by demonstrating that deep learning-oriented instruction can effectively strengthen disaster preparedness in maritime vocational education

Abstract

PT Pundi Alam Perkasa is a company operating in the woodworking industry, with a primary focus on the export market and producing barecore products. This study identified that the company experienced a decline in the supply of wood raw materials during a certain period, while export activities continued to run smoothly. This phenomenon became the basis for conducting a more in-depth study to examine the possible influence of supplier relationship management on the availability of raw materials, which affects the smooth running of the production process. The purpose of this study is to analyse the effect of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) implementation on the export performance of PT Pundi Alam Perkasa, as well as to examine the strategies applied by the company in dealing with raw material supply constraints. The research approach used is a mixed methods approach with an Exploratory Sequential Design. The findings show that SRM has a positive effect on the company's export performance. Strong and effective relationships with suppliers contribute to improved product quality, increased operational efficiency, and the company's ability to meet international market demand. The strategies implemented to overcome raw material supply shortages include: adjusting or increasing the price of wood raw materials, continuing the production process by making adjustments, and seeking alternative raw material suppliers.
