Abstract

Proper loading space preparation is an important factor in the loading and unloading activities of a tanker. An unprepared tank for loading space will result in losses for the company, for that it requires close cooperation between the company. This research was conducted to determine the factors that cause the less optimal implementation of tank cleaning on the ship MT. Andhika Vidyanata. The data collection technique used was the observation technique. The data processing technique used in this research is the editing process and the data analysis method is descriptive qualitative. The problem finding obtained from the research is that the implementation of tank cleaning activities on the ship MT. Andhika Vidyanata. is not optimal. Lack of coordination, supervision, communication and maintenance of cleaning equipment for loading rooms is the cause of the tank cleaning process not running optimally. Efforts that must be made to overcome the cleaning process for loading spaces in order to run optimally are to improve ship crew coordination and carry out routine maintenance of supporting equipment for cleanliness of cargo spaces. The results obtained from this study are to optimize the implementation of tank cleaning in order to prevent delays in loading on board.

Abstract

Ejector is a static pump which is worked by a vacuum principal. A vacuum which is happened in the ejector affect the performance and the ability of suction on the secondary mass flow section. A vacuum ejector in the fresh water generator affects the amount of fresh water which is generated. The objective of this research is to know the affection of variation in the outlet diameter of the nozzle towards secondary mass flow, especially on the air suction section (vacuum). In this research, an analysis has been done in a fresh water generator (FWG) with three alternative design of the outlet diameter of the nozzle using Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method to get the optimal performance. The inlet pressure of primary flow is regulated to be steady at 3 bars. The variations of the diameter outlet of the nozzle are 4, 6, and 8 mm. The distance between the edge of the nozzle with outlet flow of the pipe is made at a settled position. The edge of the nozzle is at 3 mm inside the outlet flow of the pipe measured from the inside edge of the pipe. The result of CFD method is shown that on the variation of the outlet diameter of the nozzle 8 mm has the biggest mass flow (4.6838048 kg/s) between 4 and 6 mm. The implication of this research is that the outlet diameter of the nozzle 8 mm has the maximum value of a vacuum.

Abstract

One of the selection routes for new student admissions at the Indonesian State Maritime Polytechnic (Polimarin) is the Joint Selection to Enter the State Polytechnic (SBMPN). Furthermore, the SBMPN selection results as the results of stage one tests and other specific tests which include interview, psychological, health, and fitness tests as stage two tests can predict the level of accuracy of passing from the required criteria. These criteria are used as variables to predict the graduation of prospective students on the SBMPN pathway conducted by Polimarin. The method used uses Backpropagation Artificial Neural Network with input variables, namely the average value of report cards from semester 1 to 5, interview scores, psychological test scores, health scores, and equality values. This system was developed with Mathlab software. Based on the results of testing the training data, the level of accuracy reaches 100% which can be classified as the best classification, with an accuracy value of 92.85 percent. This system is intended to help management predict the selection of the SBMPN route in the following year.

Abstract

It is a Research and Development study. This study aims to present the results of the needs analysis of Maritime English teaching materials in the D4 Nautical Study Program of the Indonesian State Maritime Polytechnic (Polimarin). The data in this study were obtained through a questionnaire was distributed and filled in by 60 respondents, namely active students of the D4 Polimarin Nautical Study Program. In addition, interviews were also conducted with lecturers who teach Maritime English and the Head of the D4 Nautical Study Program. The obtained data were analyzed qualitatively using needs analysis. The results of the analysis of the teaching material needs obtained show that basically the teaching materials have been provided by the lecturers, but have not been provided systematically in form of module or book. Students do not have teaching materials to handle and study them at home. The findings of this study will be used to develop and improve Maritime English teaching materials in the D4 Nautical study program. In the future, teaching materials will be developed in the form of module according to student needs in line with the applicable curriculum.

Abstract

Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia (POLIMARIN) Semarang is a vocational higher education institution in the maritime field that annually graduated alumni spread throughout the business world and the industrial world in accordance with their fields. This study aims to look at the level of satisfaction of the business and industry institutions towards graduates of industry practices related to soft skills and hard skills and other elements. The research method is a descriptive method. Method of collecting survey data through questionnaires post fact. The respondents were 30 person as user companies graduated from industrial practice. The questionnaire answers use a Likert scale with calculations to find GAP, where GAP is the difference between the value of reality and the value of expectations of the business and industrial institutions to the quality of graduates. The role of stakeholders can not be ruled out, because they are the users of graduates from Polimarin, especially the first study program KPN. Stakeholder needs and assessment can be used as evaluation tools by Polimarin in improving the quality of graduates, ensuring that graduates have the ability and expertise in accordance with the needs of graduate’s users and used as feedback in order to improve the overall quality of graduates.

Abstract

Commercial ships are a means of transportation at sea. For ships that do not exchange ballast water accordingly, it can be dangerous for the port environment they enter. The purpose of this research is to determine the metal content in the ballast tank water of commercial ships that have not implemented ballast water exchange in the middle of the sea following the rules of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Research on the content of heavy metals in the ballast water of commercial ships, both ferries and cargo ships docked at the port, has been carried out using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) method on flame. The results showed that the Pb content in ballast water ranged from 0.004-1.65 mg/liter, Cd ranged from 0.0015-0.47 mg/liter, Cu ranged from 0.0035-0.362 mg/liter and Zn ranged from 0.0015-2.54 mg/liter. According to the Decree of the Minister of the Environment Number 51 of 2004, the metal content of Cd and Zn has exceeded the seawater quality standards for water port, namely 0.001 mg/liter and 0.1 mg/liter, while the content of Pb and Cu has not exceeded the port quality standards.
