Abstract

This study contains issues related to 1) teachers' perceptions of the use of the Kahoot application in Civics learning at SDN Depok 1, 2) what are the advantages and disadvantages of teachers in using the Kahoot application in Civics learning, 3) how the application of Kahoot media in Civics subjects. In this study, researchers conducted surveys or interviews with teachers at SDN Depok 1 to see perceptions of using Kahoot in Civics learning. This study aims to analyze teacher perceptions of using Kahoot in Civics learning. This study uses a qualitative research approach and case study method. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted at the SDN Yogyakarta area, namely Depok 1 State Elementary School, with 28 students, 12 boys and 16 girls, and 1 class teacher. The results showed 1) the teacher's perception, in this case, is evident from the indicators of a teacher in getting a response, description, and understanding obtained when using Kahoot media in learning, 2) the advantages of Kahoot media are that it makes it easier for teachers to evaluate learning, makes it easier to see the score, while the disadvantages of using the Kahoot application according to teacher perceptions are that it requires high internet access, 3) Application of Kahoot media in Civics subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, integrated with PhET Interactive Simulations, on improving the science learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students in magnetism, electricity, and technology in everyday life. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed, involving 60 fifth-grade students from SDN 21 Sijuk, divided into an experimental class (n=30) receiving PjBL-PhET instruction and a control class (n=30) receiving conventional instruction. Data were collected through a validated 23-item multiple-choice test (KR-20 = 0.82), a structured observation sheet for student activities (Cohen's κ = 0.85), and a student response questionnaire (Cronbach's α = 0.91). Results showed that the experimental class achieved a significantly higher mean posttest score (85.67) than the control class (73.33), with a higher N-Gain of 0.71 compared to 0.25 in the control group. An independent sample t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000) with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.70). Student learning activities in the experimental class achieved an average engagement of 87.5% (very active), with engagement gradually increasing across meetings. Student responses toward the learning approach were highly positive (89.3%), particularly regarding its benefits for conceptual understanding (91.0%). These findings demonstrate that integrating PjBL with PhET simulations enhances cognitive learning outcomes, active participation, and affective responses in elementary science education.

Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation of pedagogical and professional competencies among certified elementary school teachers in Small Border Islands (Pulau-Pulau Kecil Perbatasan/PPKP), focusing on West Moa District, Southwest Maluku Regency, a geographically remote 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) region facing serious educational challenges. The study adopted an evaluative approach using a descriptive qualitative design with quantified rubric-based scoring, grounded in Stake's Countenance Evaluation Model, in which competency achievement was benchmarked against the standards outlined in Indonesian Law Number 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers. Participants included five school principals and 18 certified elementary school teachers from five public primary schools in the district. Data were obtained through participatory observations, questionnaires, structured interviews, and document analysis, and were validated through triangulation of techniques and sources. Findings indicate that teachers demonstrate strong pedagogical competence (overall >92%), particularly in understanding learner characteristics (92.66%), communication with students (93.36%), and learning evaluation (94.66%). Professional competence also reached high levels (overall >90%), with the strongest result in lesson opening and closing (95.00%). In comparison, self-development scored lowest (89.90%) due to limited access to professional training networks in border areas. These results confirm that teacher certification has meaningfully strengthened pedagogical and professional capacities even under conditions of limited educational infrastructure. However, sustained, context-responsive professional development is essential to further enhance instructional quality in PPKP primary schools.
