Abstract

Traditional Indonesian architecture showcases a unique local identity and is a treasure in the cultural heritage of Indonesia. One of the distinctive architectural styles in Indonesia is Malay architecture, which exhibits diverse typologies when compared to several other architectural works in the country. This article aims to identify the characteristics and typology of Lontiok houses in Malay architecture to ensure the preservation and conservation of Lontiok Malay houses. The method employed in this research is qualitative, using a case study approach. The findings of this research reveal that the typology of spatial arrangement in Lontiok houses consists of a front porch, bedroom, middle porch, back porch, front stairs, and back stairs. The typology of the structure and construction of Lontiok houses includes a lontiok-shaped roof, a ridge beam with a "drinking elephant" profile oriented parallel to the road, a single eave without ornamentation, 22 pillars, doors comprising front, side, and back doors, windows with 2 leaves, odd stairs consisting of 5 steps, an attic for storage, wooden floors, walls made of tongue and groove wood, and a foundation of umpak stones. Moreover, the Lontiok houses in this research exhibit a variety of decorations with Malay floral motifs found on doors, windows, ventilation openings, foundation pillars, inner walls, and water storage jars.

Abstract

The classroom is a room used for teaching and learning activities. These rooms tend to be crowded, occupied by a number of active students and teachers, making it possible for disease transmission to occur if the classrooms are uncomfortable and do not meet health standards. Because various factors can influence the success of teaching and learning activities, it is important to have classrooms that meet health and comfort standards. This research will focus on classes at elementary school level, with the research object being SDN Grogol Selatan 09 Pagi which is located in South Jakarta. The research method used is descriptive qualitative by conducting field observations and literature analysis. The aim of this research is to determine the quality of Indoor Health and Comfort (IHC) in the classrooms of SDN Grogol Selatan 09 Pagi in order to create an optimal learning environment. The research results show that five of the eight points of Indoor Health and Comfort criteria have been met, namely outdoor air introduction, chemical pollutants, visual comfort, thermal comfort, and acoustic levels.

Abstract

Mosques, Muslim houses of worship, have always emphasized a solemn and peaceful atmosphere. Daylighting plays a vital role in creating this atmosphere, but is often overlooked or misunderstood. This research looks at how daylighting affects the religious experience in mosques and how architectural design can maximize it. Through case studies of specific mosques, this research analyzes aspects such as opening design, building orientation, and the use of skylights on the distribution and intensity of natural light. In addition, the research explores mosque users' perceptions of lighting quality and its effect on the solemnity of worship. The findings are expected to answer critical questions such as: Is the existing opening design optimal? Does the orientation of the building affect the level of lighting comfort? How does natural light affect the spiritual atmosphere of worshipers? These findings will be reflected into optimal daylighting design recommendations for mosques, supporting increased comfort and solemnity for worshippers.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in fauna, described as a country with high levels of variety and endemism. Among these fauna, 1826 area birds and of those 1598 species, 528 birds are endemic to the country. As impressive as the variety of these birds is, it is also notable that 179 of these species are endangered, 31 already listed as critically endangered. Many of these species are endangered due to destruction of their natural habitats, poaching as well as the illegal trade of these birds. Overall, this is due to the ignorance of the people as well as the lack of education available to the general public regarding the importance of conserving these animals. This highlights how vital educating the community, especially the younger generation, of how important conserving these birds are to the entire ecosystem. Having a source of information that is not just accessible but also intriguing to the general public will impact animal conservation in its entirety. It is also important to design a space that can help people connect with not just the animal, but nature in general as to teach them to appreciate nature. Therefore, designing a space that is accessible to the general public, offers information in an educative, immersive and interactive manner and can help create a connection to nature is important to the goal of animal conservation.

Abstract

This research is driven by the inquiry: how does the ancient practice of sharing adapt as a cultural norm in contemporary urban environments? Focusing on the Kalimalang area in Bekasi, which was initially designated as a protected zone due to the presence of the Kalimalang canal, the study traces its evolution into a densely populated region, catalyzed by rapid transportation advancements such as the Indonesia-China High-Speed Rail (KCIC) and LRT Line 2. Through comprehensive analysis spanning macro, mezzo, and micro scales, the study investigates the feasibility of integrating the sharing city principle into urban revitalization endeavors for Kalimalang. Employing data triangulation techniques, informed by insights from "Sharing Cities: A Case for Truly Smart and Sustainable Cities" by McLaren & Agyeman, the research proposes urban design strategies tailored to the northern Kalimalang area. Ultimately, the study asserts that embracing the sharing city concept offers a promising avenue to address the area's challenges amidst unchecked urban expansion, advocating for further exploration of public-private space distribution and emphasizing stakeholder engagement for collaborative, sustainable progress in the Kalimalang environment.
