Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural practice of Meuseuraya (mutual cooperation) in Desa Reuseb, Kecamatan Trienggadeng, Kabupaten Pidie Jaya, analyzing its evolution from a cornerstone of community engagement to its present-day decline amidst modernization and technological advancements. Employing qualitative research methods, this study collected data through interviews, observation, and documentation in Desa Reuseb. Informants, including local leaders and community members, were selected using purposive sampling. The data was then analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques, focusing on the interactive model of analysis. Historically, Meuseuraya played a vital role in fostering community spirit and cooperation in agricultural and social activities within Desa Reuseb. It was integral to community bonding and supported various communal tasks, such as building infrastructure and farming. However, the study reveals a significant decline in the practice due to modernization, technological adoption in agriculture, and changing lifestyle preferences among the community. The fading practice of Meuseuraya represents a loss of cultural heritage and community spirit in the face of modern challenges. Despite these changes, the values underlying Meuseuraya remain crucial for fostering community solidarity and identity. This study concludes that revitalizing and adapting Meuseuraya to contemporary conditions could help preserve its cultural significance and enhance community resilience and sustainability. Future initiatives should focus on integrating traditional cooperation techniques with modern agricultural practices to maintain the relevance and benefits of Meuseuraya in current and future generations.

Abstract

The influence and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the mass media industry in Indonesia has begun to be applied. Both online media and television. In fact, mass media in Indonesia also produce content in the form of audio, video, text and presenters using AI. The use of this technology does make it easier for media workers. However, it has various shortcomings and problems that arise as a logical consequence of the presence of AI technology. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis style. The results show that AI technology has shortcomings in terms of accuracy, verification, and validation of data collected from the digital universe. On the other hand, it has no legal justification in Indonesia. For this reason, special regulations for the use of AI in the Indonesian mass media are needed. Thus, the public as the main recipient of information is not harmed and maintains the image of the media industry as the most trusted institution in the country.

Abstract

This research aims: 1) to find out the rights of persons with disabilities are fulfilled in the Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation services in Medan City; 2) to find out the constraints and barriers experienced by people with disabilities in accessing Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation in the city. Research data was obtained using observation, interviews, documentation and focused group discussions. The results are as follows: Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation is not yet disability friendly so that disability rights in public transportation services have not been fulfilled. A number of obstacles faced by people with disabilities include: narrow and high bus doors, damaged bus stops, sidewalks that are disjointed and do not lead to the bus stops, unavailability of braille letters, and unavailability of travel routes at each bus stop. And this is actually rooted in a policy-making paradigm that is not yet disability-friendly. However, in general, the Trans Metro Deli Bus service is still better and disabilities-friendly than the Damri Bus.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of minimal female representation, the challenge of the 30 percent affirmative action, the urgency of female legislators, the framing of the current context, and the discourse on strengthening gender-sensitive female legislators. Through a qualitative approach, various phenomena are explored descriptively and analytically. The research findings explain that the lack of representation is due to the persistence of patriarchal culture within political parties. Women are often merely seen as a requirement to participate in elections. Weak access and freedom during the campaign season, as well as the fragility of voter networks, are among the factors contributing to the difficulty in meeting female legislative representation. Their election is largely supported by social networks, familial relationships, and family solidarity. The role of legislators is limited to fulfilling formal duties and responding to the demands or needs of constituents. The highlighted articulation is various forms of social and religious action. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that female legislators have yet to substantively influence gender-based policies. The commitment of political parties to fulfilling female representation by nominating potential candidates based on social networks and familial relationships warrants further investigation. This strategy is not impossible; achieving the 30 percent representation of female legislators in the future is feasible.

Abstract

This research article aims to analyze the cultural reproduction process that transformed the traditional art of Subang Regency, namely Sisingaan, into Singa Dangdut in the Lodaya Putra Group. It also aims to identify the factors that caused the cultural reproduction of this art. Sisingaan is a characteristic of Subang Regency that has undergone changes and evolved into a popular art form known as Singa Dangdut. For this research, a qualitative approach was used, which involved observation, interviews, and document studies. The data sources used were primary data obtained directly from the field and interviews, as well as secondary data in the form of documents obtained from the field. Data validity was tested using the triangulation method. The research findings show that the reproduction of Sisingaan into Singa Dangdut occurred through five aspects that underwent changes and innovations, including (a) the appearance of the lion puppet, (b) accompanying musical instruments, (c) choreography, (d) performance, and (e) costumes. The factors that caused this reproduction were both internal and external to the art group and society. The internal factors were the changing musical taste of the Lodaya Putra Group members from traditional songs to Dangdut music. This was because the current members of the Lodaya Putra Group are dominated by young people who tend to prefer popular music over traditional music. The external factors were the process of traditional cultural acculturation with modern culture and market demands.

Abstract

Indonesia as a maritime country with great marine potential should be able to provide welfare for the fishing community. However, in reality, most fishermen in Indonesia, including in Mangunsari Village, still live in poverty. This research aims to identify and analyze the problematic distribution of fish catches in Mangunsari Village. The research questions focused on infrastructure, technology, and market access constraints faced by fishermen. This research uses qualitative methods with in-depth interviews and participatory observation to explore the problems faced by fishermen. The research findings show that poor infrastructure, limited storage and preservation technology, and limited market access are the main obstacles in fish distribution. In addition, the influx of investors building the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB) and the construction of a toll road that led to flash floods also worsened the situation, forcing fishermen into debt to make ends meet. Ineffective government policies and low community participation in utilizing aid also exacerbated the condition. The findings are expected to serve as a basis for formulating more effective strategies to improve the welfare of fishing communities in Mangunsari Village.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the power of partonun in ulos which has often been maintained by Uli, partonun ulos from Rura Silindung village, Tarutung. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach and literature study. Data collection was used by means of observation, in-depth interviews, documentation techniques from photographs. The results of the research show that the power of partonun ulos in the Rura Silindung area can only be exercised by those who can weave. Partonun ulos must have knowledge in designing and this knowledge is determined collectively because ulos is a representation of togetherness and will meet its end if it is collided with the need to pursue material things alone. Although this brings paralysis during industrial development in determining the design. However, this design must be maintained because it is part of remembering the historical route, creating, and controlling the work, and also loyalty to the ideal of balance between the partonun community and the environment.
