Abstract

Modern society's understanding of the meaning of Azab is often inaccurate; many understand it as torture, cruelty, and God's retribution. This article was created to examine how the concept of Azab is understood and perceived by Muslims. Because most know Azab as torment, pain, and God's cruelty, Roland Barthes' semiotics will be used as a knife to find out how the true meaning of doom from the Qur'an relates to this topic for analysis. Barthes argues that all language systems can be understood through two steps: the first is known as the linguistic system (linguistics), and the second is known as the myth system (mythology). To achieve the myth system, namely by using a sign system consisting of three components: the signifier, the signified, and the sign on the second level. Using Roland Barthes' semiotics, the concept of Azab, understanding that God will torture humans who have sins in the afterlife, is just a myth. Punishment is not a form of His wrath but a form of His love. God has given His servant signs of Azab as proof of nature rahman and womb Him so that humans do not get that painful Azab. Even though, in the end, a sinful human still gets punishment (torture) as a reward for his actions, all of this is because God wants to purify and cleanse humans from sins while living in the world.

Abstract

Tafsir al-Misbah succeeded in combining the presentation of the surahs of the Koran with the al-adabi al-ijtima'i style with the correlative tahlili method. That is, Tafsir al-Misbah, even though it has an adabi al-ijtima'i pattern (a socio-community cultural style), does not leave a unified message in every surah of the Qur'an. The Quraish Shihab style of thought and its distinctive tendencies have sufficiently colored the discourse on al-Qur'an studies in Indonesia. This study attempts to describe the concept of wasathiyah Quraish Shihab from his works. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of library research. The primary data is Quraish Shihab's book on Moderate Islam. In the thought of religious moderation, Quraish Shihab, namely the middle position makes humans not take sides to the left and to the right. Second, the understanding of ummatan wasathon in the concept of wasathiyyah with a middle meaning in the view of God and the world. Wasathiyah also contains the main principles of fairness, balance and tolerance. Islam as a religion with the highest number of adherents requires its adherents to have tolerance in society, protect minorities, and give freedom to the majority to worship as they believe. The Qur'an has explained the need to have a tolerant attitude in several of its verses, which later these verses were understood in various ways by mufassir, one of whom was Quraish Shihab.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the method of interpreting the book of Tafsir At-Tanwir, how to interpret the verses about philanthropy in Tafsir At-Tanwir, and the contextualization of philanthropic verses with social welfare. This study used the library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The author uses the thematic method to reveal the contents of the Al-Quran more comprehensively. The results of the study show that Tafsir At-Tanwir combines the tahlili and mawdu'i methods simultaneously (tahlili cum-thematic). The interpretation of philanthropic verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir tries to awaken the spirit of Islamic philanthropy which is built through the spirit of the Al-Quran. Philanthropy is a manifestation of the concept of charity theology with the spirit of al-Mauninitiated by KH Ahmad Dahlan, namely worship is not only of mechanical-ritualist-individualist value but of practical action that also has universal value within a frame of social piety. Islamic philanthropy has enormous potential in realizing social welfare. The actualization of teachings on philanthropy can help improve the lives of people in need and reduce social inequality.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the influence of hermeneutics in the theory of double movement. This theory is a new interpretive methodology initiated by Fazlurrahman in response to modernization. In addition, dissatisfaction with the methodology of classical scholarly exegesis is also the reason for this idea. After tracing this theory, it is found that there are several hermeneutic schools behind this theory. Therefore, in the implementation of the double movement theory, controversial legal products are often produced considering that in hermeneutics there is no definite law. While in Islam there are rules that are definite and cannot change the law. With this critical analysis-style research, it is hoped that we can understand and assess the effectiveness of the double movement theory in the treasures of contemporary interpretation.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find meanings that are in accordance with the context of meaning at the time when the Qur'an was revealed and take the main message (significance) contained in the meaning to be contextualized in the present with appropriate meaning. Through the existing problem the word haram is often interpreted as a word prohibition, this understanding starts from the meaning of haram in the translation of the Qur'an itself but in fact the word haram itself has another meaning when presented in a textually different letter metamorphose. This research will be presented through Roland Barthes' linguistic semiotics research method by examining the word haram through a Semiotics approach. This analysis will be through the search for the meaning of Connotation and Denotation which explains the disclosure of myths behind a sign or writing. The results of this study produced an analysis of new meanings related to the word haram. This haram word algorithm changes its nature depending on the text and context of the verse. Not when haram is said to be a prohibition, but in this myth it turns out to have other meanings such as haram is an antonym of the word halal which means halal is in its place, while haram is not a prohibition but not in its place or limitation.

Abstract

Looking at the times, humanitarian problems have developed so complex, ranging from genetics, space exploration, education, interfaith relations, gender issues, human rights, and so on. The rapid development of the times makes Islamic sciences inevitably have to follow the flow of the times, and without exception the science of interpretation. The science of interpretation is required to always develop in the face of the complexity of humanitarian problems. It was here that the idea of the use of hermeneutics became a necessity for today's interpreters. Hermeneutics as a methodology in the interpretation of the Quran is considered quite important and urgent to do because hermeneutics does not only speak at the level of the text alone but also considers the context and role of subjectivity of an interpreter, so that by using the method of hermeneutics, interpretation or study of the Quran is expected to be able to become an actual contextual and answer the challenges of the times. The problem in this study is how Muhammad Syahrul's hermeneutic method in interpreting Quranic verses about Polygamy. The purpose of the study was to know and analyse Muhammad Shahrur's hermeneutics in interpreting Qur'anic verses about polygamy. The research method used in writing this paper is a qualitative research method through library research or literature review method using descriptive analysis writing method. The results showed that using his Limit Theory (Nadzariyah al-Hudud), Syahrur tried to reconstruct the understanding of polygamy by using quantity and quality standards together. In terms of quantity, the minimum standard limit for a person to marry is once (one wife), and the maximum limit is four wives. Islam allows a person to marry 4 (four) people together (polygamy), but in quality it is necessary to distinguish between the status of the first wife and the status of the second, third and fourth wives. For first wives (first marriages) one can marry a woman who is a virgin or widow whether or not she has children, but in a second, third, and/or fourth marriage (polygamy), the wife must be widowed and have orphans. So one cannot marry all one's wives in virgin condition, but on the contrary it is quite possible one marries wives who are all widows. This is in accordance with the main purpose of polygamy, which is to provide protection and protection and ensure the welfare and happiness of orphans living in intact families so as not to become homeless and avoid juvenile delinquency.

Abstract

This article will discuss how hermeneutic influences the exegesis of the Qur’an initiated by Muslim feminists. Through hermeneutical principles, Muslim feminists develop their own theories and methods in presenting new interpretations of the Qur'an. This research will focus its discussion on one of the well-known Muslim feminists, Amina Wadud. Through a critical study of text analysis, this research will try to answer questions about (1) the necessity of using the hermeneutical method in feminist interpretation, (2) the influence of hermeneutics on Amina Wadud's method of interpretation. This paper will highlight this event using a socio-historical approach and content analysis. In addition, references related to the patterns of Islam integrity and culture will be used with a comparative pattern. The conclusion of this research is that through historical critical analysis tools and text criticism inspired by hermeneutical principles, Amina Wadud succeeded in creating her own interpretation method and developing an interpretation approach that is not gender biased and emphasizes the principal and universal messages contained in the Qur'an.
