Abstract

Alcoholic beverages contain ethanol, which is toxic and can increase oxidative stress, potentially damaging the kidneys. Corn silk contains flavonoids with antioxidant effects. This study aims to examine the effect of corn silk extract on the kidney histology of alcohol-induced white rats. This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with 36 rats divided into 9 groups: control (C), negative control (P) receiving 1 ml/day of alcohol, positive control (J1, J2, J3) receiving corn silk extract at doses of 50, 100, and 150 mg/KgBW, treatment groups (PJ1, PJ2, PJ3) induced with alcohol and then given corn silk extract, and the comparator group (S) induced with alcohol and given 1 ml of vitamin C. Kidney histological damage was assessed based on glomerular and tubular damage scores. Data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA and post hoc Duncan tests. The results showed the average kidney damage scores for groups C = 43.35; P = 54.55; J1 = 46.75; J2 = 47.20; J3 = 46.45; PJ1 = 50.75; PJ2 = 46.35; PJ3 = 47.20; and S = 46.90. The glomerular and tubular damage scores of group C differed significantly from P but were not significantly different from other groups. Thus, the administration of corn silk extract (Zea mays L.) does not have a significant effect on the histological appearance of the glomerulus and renal tubules in alcohol-induced white rats (Rattus norvegicus). However, there is a tendency indicating that this extract has the potential to reduce alcohol-induced damage, although the observed differences are not statistically significant.

Abstract

The background of this study is related to the lack of compliance in sorting infectious and non-infectious waste in nurses. This study was conducted to evaluate the perception of compliance in the separation of infectious and non-infectious waste at the Class C Private General Hospital in Central Lampung. The main focus is to analyze the influence of knowledge, work motivation, availability of facilities, on the perception of compliance in waste sorting by using attitude as a mediating variable. This research uses an analytical quantitative design with a cross-section design and a field research approach. The population used was hospital nurses with a sampling technique in the form of saturated sampling by making a total of 119 nurses as respondents. The data was collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed using the three box method and the SEM-PLS statistical method with the help of the SmartPLS-4 device. The results of this study show that there is a significant influence between work motivation and attitude on the perception of waste sorting compliance. On the other hand, there is a significant indirect influence between knowledge and work motivation on the perception of waste separation compliance when mediated by attitudes. Knowledge, work motivation and availability of facilities have a significant influence on attitudes. However, the attitude of not mediating the influence of facility availability on the perception of waste sorting compliance behavior Thus, the perception of compliance behavior in conducting waste sorting is significantly influenced by work motivation and attitude. Therefore, these factors need to be continuously improved to ensure effective medical waste management in the health environment.

Abstract

The elderly are an advanced stage of human life which is characterized by physiological decline. Various problems and events that arise in daily life can trigger stress. Stress in the elderly occurs due to pressure caused by stressors who demand adjustments from the elderly and unpreparedness to fight the changes experienced. Stress caused by life events such as the death of a loved one or financial difficulties can contribute to poor sleep quality. The quality and quantity of sleep are affected by several factors, including illness, fatigue, drug consumption, nutrition, environment, motivation and stress. This study aims to prove the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly in Urutsewu Village, the working area of the Ampel Boyolali Health Center. This research is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach, using the elderly as a research sample. A sample of 59 elderly people used the total sampling technique. The measuring instrument uses the PSS10 questionnaire (Perseived stress scale) to measure stress levels and the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaire to measure sleep quality analyzed using the Chi Square test. A total of 30 elderly people (50.8%) experienced severe stress, there were 29 elderly people (49.2%) experienced mild stress. A total of 40 elderly people (67.8%) experienced poor sleep quality, there were 19 elderly people (32.2%) experienced good sleep quality. Fisher's test results were obtained with a significant p value = 0.000 (p<0.05). Based on the results of the study, it was shown that there was a relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly in Urutsewu Village, the working area of the Ampel Boyolali Health Center.

Abstract

Organizations play an important role in achieving goals by managing production factors, one of which is human resources (HR). Work discipline, work motivation, and work environment are factors that influence employee performance in an organization. This study aims to analyze the influence of discipline, work motivation, and work environment on employee performance at the Bekangdam I/Bukit Barisan work unit. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of these three factors in the context of education and training in the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia. This research uses a quantitative approach with a causal associative research design, where these variables are tested for their impact on employee performance through regression analysis. Data were collected using questionnaires with Likert scales involving 25 civil servants (PNS) at Bekangdam I/Bukit Barisan. The results of the study indicate that work motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, while work discipline and work environment have no significant effect. Simultaneously, these three factors do not have a significant impact on employee performance. This study concludes that to improve employee performance, the main focus should be placed on increasing work motivation, while discipline and work environment need to be further reviewed for improvement.

Abstract

The Korean Wave has constructed a significant cultural force, shaping global identities through entertainment media such as K-pop, K-dramas, and K-movies. Contextually, this study explores how the Korean Wave creates a hyperreality that dominates the consciousness of global society, including Indonesia. Using Jean Baudrillard's theoretical framework of hyperreality, the research demonstrates how South Korean culture, as represented through media, transcends mere reflection of reality to create a new reality that supplants local identities. Through qualitative analysis, the findings reveal that the Korean Wave has become a powerful soft power tool for South Korea, redefining cultural preferences and displacing local traditions. In Indonesia, this phenomenon is evident in the widespread popularity of K-pop and K-dramas, which dominate media consumption and influence lifestyles, behaviors, and mindsets. Under the lens of hyperreality, South Korean culture is not only adopted but also idolized as an idealized reality. The study highlights the implications of the Korean Wave in fostering cultural hegemony, which weakens the uniqueness of local identities. It underscores the need for critical awareness of hyperreality’s influence and emphasizes efforts to preserve local culture amid the intensifying wave of cultural globalization driven by the Korean Wave.
