Abstract

Language as a literary medium demands uniqueness and finesse in its usage, reflected in literary language that has been tailored by authors to achieve beauty. Stylistics becomes crucial in examining the beauty and precision of language use, even in non-literary contexts. This study aims to analyze the syntactic, lexical, and figurative language structures in the novel "Ordinary People" by Andrea Hirata. Descriptive Analysis method with a qualitative approach is used to achieve this goal. The results show the dominant use of coordinative sentences with declarative sentence types, as well as complex words and connotations commonly used in the novel, making it engaging with the use of figurative devices such as metaphors.

Abstract

This study examines the use of imagery in the novel "Asmaraloka" by Arata Kim, highlighting the magical creativity of literature that enriches the reader's experience. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive method, the research identifies, classifies, analyzes, and concludes imagery of sight, hearing, movement, touch, and smell in the novel. The findings reveal various imagery employed by the author to enrich the narrative. The implications of this research in education include the development of literature teaching in high school, while theoretically contributing to understanding the use of imagery in literary works. Practically, this research can be used as teaching material in literature subjects, enriching the learning experience of Indonesian language and literature.

Abstract

The Bengkalis dialect of Riau Malay is unique. In Indonesian, the prefix ter- meets basic words that start with /l/, so there will be a conservation of phonemes, for example {ter-} + {then} = {too} "too". This research belongs to the type of qualitative research. The method used is descriptive method, namely by first collecting data and then describing it, then analyzing and interpreting it based on the method set by the author. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in this study, it can be concluded that the affixes contained in the Malay language in the Folktale Khayal Interview with Yung Dollah by Hang Kafrawi are prefixes, suffixes and confixes. The Malay prefixes in Yung Dollah's interview story consist of {meN-}, {me-}, {ber-},{mem-},{se-}, {ter-}. Suffixes in Malay In folklore Interview Khayal Yung Dollah consists of {-an}. Confixes in Malay in the story Interview with Khayal Yung Dollah consist of { maN-},{ka-an}, which are found in Malay In Folktales with Khayal Yung Dollah Interview only {be-}, where the prefixes {be-} and { are not found ber-} prefix te-consisting of {te-} and {ter-} found in Malay in Yung Dollah folklore. The forms of Malay affixes in folklore interviews with Khayal Yung Dollah that are commonly found are the prefixes {ber-}, {meN-}, {me-}, te-},{se-}. So the prefixes {ber-}, {meN-}, {mem-} are productive forms of affixes, while the affix forms that are rarely found are suffixes {-an} which are rarely found in Malay in Yung Dollah Folklore. So the suffix {-an} is unproductive.

Abstract

This study tries to describe, analyze, and interpret the abilities of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Singingi, Singingi District, Kuantan Singingi Regency for the 2022/2023 academic year in determining the elements of the news to be listened to. This study aims to answer the question of how well students are capable in this regard. The population in the study were 23 students of class VIII.1, and the sample used was a saturated/total sample. The research method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach and uses the theory of several experts. The results showed that the students' ability to determine news elements was in a good category with a score of 78.98. Thus, the previously established hypothesis that the students' ability to determine news elements is only sufficient with a range of 56-65 scores must be rejected because the category of scores achieved by students is in the good category.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze, interpret, and conclude the development of assessment instruments for the basic competence of writing explanatory texts in Indonesian language learning for 11th-grade students at SMA N 1 Pekanbaru. In developing the portfolio assessment instrument, the researcher used the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The population in this study is the community of Tembilahan Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research results show that in writing main ideas in the general statement section, only three students received a score of 20 or very poor. Meanwhile, in writing main ideas in the series of explanations section, only five students received a score of 20 or very poor. In terms of writing main ideas in the interpretation section, a total of 11 students were unable to do so. Similarly, in writing sentences containing factual information, only five students were unable to do so, and eight students were unable to write sentences containing information based on the sequence of events. Overall, the portfolio assessment instrument developed in this study meets the criteria for validity and is suitable for implementation in Indonesian language learning at SMA N 1 Pekanbar0075.

Abstract

Euphemisms, as a form of softening words to replace taboo language, are an intriguing phenomenon worthy of study. Euphemisms arise in response to the need for more polite expressions in society. The use of euphemisms is not only limited to everyday conversations but is also often found in literary works such as novels. In this study, the focus is on the formation and benefits of euphemisms found in the novel "Layangan Putus" by Mommy Asf, using the theoretical framework proposed by Sutratman (2017). A descriptive method is used with a hermeneutic approach. The data analyzed are words or phrases containing euphemisms in the novel. The results of the study show five common forms of euphemism formation, including the use of abbreviations, loanwords, foreign terms, metaphors, and periphrasis. The most dominant form found is the use of foreign terms, perhaps because there are still many sentences containing foreign terms unfamiliar to the general readership in the novel.

Abstract

This study highlights the use of euphemism in the context of mass media, particularly in newspapers, providing a significant contribution to understanding this phenomenon. Although previously noted, this research delves deeper into how euphemisms are employed by the media to manage sensitivity and responsibility in conveying information to the public. It also reveals the impact of euphemistic language on the understanding and interpretation of media messages, highlighting aspects that have not been fully explored before. Furthermore, this study offers a fresh perspective on the dynamics of communication in the context of mass media, especially in language development and accurate information dissemination. By examining the use of euphemism in newspapers, this research opens a new window into understanding the language strategies employed by media outlets to achieve communicative goals. Adopting a qualitative approach and descriptive method allows the author to describe, analyze, and draw conclusions from the data accurately. Documentation and hermeneutic techniques are employed in data collection to obtain a thorough and in-depth understanding. The analysis results reveal several patterns in the use of euphemism, such as borrowing words from foreign languages, using circumlocution, and avoiding harsh language. As a suggestion, future research should pay more attention to references and data collection, as well as consider more systematic methods in data processing. Thus, this study is expected to make a significant contribution to understanding the use of euphemism in mass media and public communication.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the repetition style of language, which can be understood as a form of repetition that has five aspects namely figures of repetition, parallelism, anafora, polysyndeton, and asyndeton. The problem in the research is how the repetition style of language contained in the novel Bedebah di Ujung Tanduk by Tere Liye. The purpose of the research is to describe, analyze, and interpret the repetition style of language in the novel Bedebah di Ujung Tanduk by Tere Liye. The theory used is the theory of Burhan Nurgiyantoro (2014) and several other supporting theories. The research method is descriptive method. The approach used in the research is a qualitative approach. The results of the research are the presence of repetition style of language including figures of repetition which means simply repeating certain forms for example forget defense, forget evasion, dodge, they really fight openly, parallelism means there are several consecutive sentences that use the same structural pattern for example we will not let Ayako-san's sacrifice be in vain. We will not win against the Drukpa Spirit, anafora means the form of repetition is at the beginning of the syntactic structure with examples of missing each other but not calling each other. Like each other but not willing to talk, polysyndeton means the use of certain duty words marked by the word "and" for example they only shoot Bujang, Salonga, and Junior when Bujang and the others first shoot them, and asyndeton means repetition in the form of punctuation which is usually marked by a comma (,) for example other club members stood around the circle, watched, cheered, laughed, teased, provided support. The most dominant aspect in the novel is the figure of asyndeton. The reason this aspect is more dominant is because the figure of asyndeton is related to punctuation. Novels usually use punctuation marks in the form of commas.

Abstract

This study investigates students' ability in writing drama scripts at SMP Negeri 1 Mandau, Bengkalis Regency, in the academic year 2022/2023. The main objective is to obtain information about students' ability in writing drama scripts, an activity that requires a high level of creativity to produce stimulating works. This skill not only aids in the development of students' personalities and creativity but also enables them to express their ideas, thoughts, and imagination through written media. The study addresses the primary issue of the extent of students' ability in writing drama scripts at SMP Negeri 1 Mandau, Bengkalis Regency, in the academic year 2022/2023. By using a quantitative approach and descriptive method, the research findings indicate that the ability of eighth-grade students in writing drama scripts is categorized as quite good, with a range of scores between 60 to 70. Observation and test techniques are employed in data collection, and based on the analysis of the elements of writing drama scripts, the average score of students is 60.86, also categorized as quite good.

Abstract

Readiness is essentially a quality or strength that enables an individual to respond in a certain way. Readiness also plays a significant role in the learning process as it can result in positive outcomes in achieving learning goals and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of learning. The learning outcomes obtained by students may vary, influenced by various factors. One of the significant factors is readiness for learning, as stated by Slameto (2003:59), who suggests that a student's learning success will be optimal if there is readiness within them. This study aims to investigate the Influence of Learning Readiness on Learning Outcomes in Indonesian Language for Grade XI AKL Students at SMK YABRI Integrated Pekanbaru. In this study, there are two variables, namely the Independent Variable (X) Learning Readiness and the Dependent Variable (Y) Learning Outcomes. This research employs a Quantitative Approach. The hypothesis of this study is Ha: there is a significant influence between learning readiness and learning outcomes for Grade XI AKL students at SMK YABRI Integrated Pekanbaru. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 71 items with a scale of 1-5, with a score range for the learning readiness instrument of 30-150. The analysis results show that the average score (mean) is 114.7, with a standard deviation of 58.42. These scores indicate that students' readiness for learning tends to be low. As for learning outcomes, the score range is 0-100, with an average score of 70.07 and a standard deviation of 10.064. These scores indicate that students' learning outcomes also tend to be low.
