Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of Future Time Perspective (FTP) in Academic Grit among engineering students in Indonesia. The hypothesis proposed that FTP significantly contributes to the development of Academic Grit. The participants consisted of 250 active engineering students from various major islands across Indonesia, selected using purposive sampling. The instruments employed were the Academic Grit Scale, developed by the researcher based on aspects from Clark and Malecki (2019), and the Future Time Perspective Scale, also developed by the researcher using aspects from Husman and Shell (2008). Data were analyzed using simple regression analysis. The results revealed an R-square value of 0.436, an F value of 5.531, and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.005). These findings indicate that Future Time Perspective has a significant role in Academic Grit, contributing 43.6% to its variance. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

The surge in mental health crises in higher education, exacerbated by academic pressure, has become an urgent global issue. Data from the WHO (2022) indicates that more than 60% of the student population in various countries report excessive anxiety, while research in Indonesia by the Indonesian Clinical Psychologists Association (2023) highlights that 8 out of 10 students experience academic stress with a negative impact on their performance. This situation not only threatens the quality of life of individuals but also hinders the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly points 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 4 (Quality Education). Therefore, this paper aims to design and propose “NEURO-DASH,” an AI-based psychological surveillance dashboard innovation to map real-time academic stress hotspots on campus. The design methodology uses the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time bound) approach integrated with secondary data analysis from literature studies and government mental health data repositories. The NEURO-DASH system is equipped with key features such as Stress Heatmap, Predictive Analytics, Early Alert System, and Interactive Dashboard. It is hoped that NEURO-DASH can become a strategic solution for campus policymakers to carry out targeted data based interventions, support the creation of a healthy and productive academic environment, and contribute directly to the achievement of SDGs in the education sector.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly increased among university students, with many utilizing AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek to support their academic activities. This phenomenon raises concerns about potential dependency on AI, which may influence psychological aspects of learning, such as self-efficacy, motivation, and procrastination. This study aims to analyze the relationship between AI chatbot dependency and academic self-efficacy, academic motivation, and academic procrastination among students. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method involving 102 students aged 18–23 years. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation with the assistance of SPSS version 29. The results showed that AI chatbot dependency had a significant positive correlation with academic motivation (r = .282; p < .05), but no significant correlation with self-efficacy (r = .152; p > .05) or procrastination (r = .168; p > .05). These findings indicate that the use of AI chatbots may enhance students’ learning motivation but does not necessarily affect their self-belief or tendency to delay academic tasks. Practically, this study provides insights for developing guidelines on the healthy and balanced use of AI chatbots in academic settings.
