Abstract

This study aims to analyse the integration of the circular economy and zero-waste principles in the transformation of pineapple-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Kediri towards a sustainable halal value chain. The research addresses the persistent challenges associated with the limited implementation of sustainable waste management practices and the inadequate integration of halal values across the entire MSME production chain. A qualitative approach employing an exploratory case study design was adopted, with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation analysis. The findings reveal that the implementation of circular economy principles among pineapple MSMEs remains partial and fragmented, primarily reflected in the utilisation of organic waste as animal feed and compost. Meanwhile, the zero-waste concept has not yet been systematically implemented due to constraints related to knowledge, technology, and institutional support. From the perspective of the halal value chain, most business actors continue to focus predominantly on the halal status of the final product, without comprehensively integrating halal principles throughout the production, processing, and distribution stages of the value chain. This study proposes an integrative model that links the circular economy, zero waste, and halal value chain within locally based MSMEs as a strategic approach to strengthening environmental sustainability, enhancing production efficiency, and improving global business competitiveness.

Abstract

Digital gold has emerged as a technologically mediated investment instrument that converts gold ownership into electronic balances, platform records, or tokenized claims. This article revisits digital gold ownership from an Islamic economics perspective under DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 166/DSN-MUI/II/2026 concerning bullion business activities based on Sharia principles. The study employs normative qualitative legal-economic research using content analysis of the fatwa, supported by recent international journal literature on gold, digital assets, Islamic fintech, Sharia governance, and investor protection. The findings show that digital gold can be treated as a Sharia-compliant economic instrument only when it represents real, standardized, segregated, and auditable physical gold; when ownership reaches al-milk al-tam or legally enforceable complete ownership; when handover occurs through physical qabd or recognized constructive possession (qabd hukmi); and when the contractual architecture avoids riba, gharar, maysir, tadlis, and dharar. The discussion argues that the central issue is not the digital form itself, but the economic substance of ownership, asset-backing, contract certainty, custody, and market conduct. The article proposes an Islamic economics compliance matrix covering underlying assets, ownership, delivery, contract choice, custody, transparency, risk control, consumer protection, and dispute resolution. Digital gold is therefore permissible as a bullion-related innovation when it strengthens lawful wealth preservation, financial inclusion, and market transparency, but it becomes problematic when it merely creates speculative digital exposure detached from real gold or when platform records cannot be redeemed, audited, or legally enforced.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategy of Bank Sumut KCP Syariah HM Yamin Medan in maintaining customer loyalty amid the decline in returns on funding products. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving informants consisting of account officers, customer service staff, and customers who use funding products. The results of the study indicate that the decline in returns can affect customer loyalty, as reflected in fluctuations in the amount of Third Party Funds (DPK) and the number of customers. However, the bank implements strategies such as improving service quality, adopting a personal approach, maintaining intensive communication, and providing appreciation to customers. In addition, a soft selling strategy is applied in offering products so that customers continue to feel comfortable and valued. These strategies have proven effective in maintaining customer trust and loyalty despite the decrease in returns.

Abstract

The digital transformation in the Islamic banking industry presents a unique challenge: harmonizing technological convenience with compliance with Sharia principles. This study aims to test a modified SERVQUAL model by incorporating the Sharia Compliance dimension in assessing the digital service quality of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). A quantitative approach was employed involving 50 active BSI customers in Jember Regency, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–4) and analyzed using multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS 21. Validity and reliability tests indicated that the research instrument fell into the excellent category, with Cronbach's Alpha values exceeding 0.9 for all variables. The main findings reveal that the Sharia Compliance dimension exerts a significant influence on service quality, with an effective contribution of 58.2 percent. In contrast, customer loyalty had no significant effect, accounting for only 5.76 percent. Simultaneously, both variables explained 64 percent of the variation in service quality.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of human resource competency development on work productivity and tests the mediating role of knowledge management at the Palm Oil Research Center (PPKS) Medan. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted using 60 purposively selected employees and researchers who were involved in competency-development, research, and knowledge-sharing activities. Data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analyzed in IBM SPSS using item validity tests, Cronbach’s alpha, classical-assumption tests, regression-based path analysis, and the Sobel test. Human resource competency development had a strong positive effect on knowledge management (B = 0.568, β = 0.709, p < 0.001) and a positive direct effect on work productivity (B = 0.545, β = 0.461, p = 0.001). Knowledge management also positively affected work productivity (B = 0.465, β = 0.315, p = 0.019). The first model explained 50.3% of the variance in knowledge management, whereas the second model explained 51.7% of the variance in work productivity. Recalculation of the indirect effect using the mediator-to-outcome coefficient produced a Sobel statistic of 2.299 (p = 0.022), indicating partial mediation. The findings demonstrate that competency development produces stronger productivity gains when employee knowledge is systematically created, documented, shared, and applied. PPKS Medan should therefore integrate competency mapping, continuous learning, mentoring, communities of practice, and a searchable institutional knowledge repository within a unified human-resource and knowledge-management strategy.

Abstract

Leadership in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is not only determined by technical capabilities, but also by ethical values and integrity, where one of the main principles in Islamic leadership is shidiq (honesty) as a foundation in building trust, maintaining business relationships, and ensuring business sustainability; however, studies that specifically place shidiq as a key element of leadership in MSMEs are still limited. This study aims to analyze the role of shidiq in Islamic leadership and examine its impact on the performance and sustainability of MSMEs. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study method, with data obtained from various relevant scientific sources in the last ten years and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The results show that shidiq has an important role in shaping leadership with integrity, transparency, and accountability, which is able to increase customer trust, strengthen employee loyalty, build an ethical organizational culture, and contribute to improving the performance and sustainability of MSMEs through improving business reputation and organizational stability.

Abstract

The development of communication technology has increased public demand for mobile phones, including used mobile phones that are more affordable than new products. This condition has encouraged the growth of used mobile phone trading in various stores, one of which is Garasi Phone Counter Jember. This study aims to determine the transaction mechanism of buying and selling used mobile phones and to analyze the practice based on Islamic economic law. This research uses an empirical qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the store owner, employees, and consumers. The results of the study show that the buying and selling process of used mobile phones at Garasi Phone Counter Jember is carried out through product inspection, price determination, bargaining, agreement, and handover of the goods. From the perspective of Islamic economic law, the practice is generally permissible because it fulfills the pillars and conditions of sale and purchase. However, transparency regarding the condition of the mobile phones, especially refurbished products, must be clearly conveyed to avoid elements of fraud and uncertainty that may harm consumers. Therefore, honesty and transparency are essential principles in creating transactions that are in accordance with Islamic economic law.
