Abstract

Complication of diabetes mellitus cause death. The death rate due to complication of diabetes mellitus was the third highest in Indonesia. Meanwhile, based on the data in 2009, people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Kota Ternate was the third highest across Indonesia. In order to prevent an increase in T2DM sufferers, several strategies are needed, including prevention from an early age including in adolescents. The research aims to evaluate T2DM-related Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) of the adolescents in Ternate city, in order to obtain data as an illustration that can be utilized in the management of T2DM. The research design was a cross sectional study. The study population was 22,653 adolescents aged 15-19 years, with a sample of 394 adolescents. Data were obtained using a questionnaire to measure the level of KAP about diabetes mellitus, risk factors and diabetes mellitus prevention. Statistical data analysis using descriptive analysis. The conclusion obtained by the analysis of the answers to each KPA question. The results showed the majority of respondents were 15 years of age (32.5%), the dominant gender is female (59.9%), education is being taken is Senior High School (53.6%). The highest respondent's knowledge level was in good category (53.8%), the attitude of the most respondents was in good category (72.6%), while the prevention practice of T2DM was also in good category (76.4%). Even though KAP shows good results, there was still many questions and statements that were answered incorrectly by respondents. Therefore, it is suggested that more in-depth educational programs in order to be propagated, especially for adolescents, since education is one of the five pillars of containment procedures T2DM.

Abstract

Body image problems are associated with several mental health problems: low self-esteem, depression, and eating disorders. This study aimed to determine the rate of impaired body figure perception and its relation with eating habits in Turkish adults. This cross-sectional study was carried with 446 participants. To determine body figure perception Stunkart Figure Scale was used. Dutch Eating Attitude Questionnaire was applied to determine the eating habits of all participants. Study data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 package program. The concordance between Body Mass Index (BMI) and Stunkart Figure Scale was 66% (r=0,660; p=0,000). The concordance between BMI and Stunkart Figure scale gradually decreases from weak to morbidly obese. The mean scores obtained by the participants from the DEAQ showed that only external eating and restrictive eating behaviors of the participants are affected by the compliance with the scale (p =0,000; p=0,000 respectively). Concordance of body figure perception with actual BMI was good level in more than half of the participants and only extrinsic and restrictive eating behavior is affected by this concordance. Individuals need to make healthy evaluations about their bodies in terms of individual and public health to control weight gain.

Abstract

Sodium nitrite is widely used nowadays, especially in the meat processing industry. In the case of an overdose, it can cause poisoning, which causes the oxidation of the iron component in the hemoglobin of erythrocytes to methemoglobin, thereby damaging cell membranes and hemolytic. Papaya leaves contain antioxidants that can inhibit the oxidation of iron components in hemoglobin. To determine the effect of papaya leaf extract on methemoglobin levels and the number of erythrocytes in white male Wistar rats strain induced with sodium nitrite. True experimental research design using post test only control group design. The object of this study was male white rats (Rattus novergicuswistar strain) induced intraperitoneally with sodium nitrite. The study was divided into a negative control group, a positive control group, a treatment group with a dose of papaya leaf extract PI (0.7 ml/200 g BW), PII (1.4 ml/200 g BW), PIII (2.8 ml/200 g BW). BB). Kruskal-Wallis test, methemoglobin levels sig. 0.001 (p<0.05). One wayannova test, erythrocyte cell count sig. 0.021 (p<0.05). Post Hoc test there was a significant difference between the negative control group and the positive control group on all variables, not different from the PII group for methemoglobin levels, not significantly different from the three treatment groups for the number of erythrocytes. Papaya leaf extract contains antioxidants that can inhibit the formation of methemoglobin, and maintain the number of erythrocytes. Papaya leaf extract can inhibit the formation of methemoglobin, maintain the number of erythrocytes in male Wistar strain rats induced with sodium nitrite.

Abstract

Leukemia treatment strategies have developed rapidly. Both the intensity of the dose and the duration of intensive treatment have been maximized after decades of trials optimizing chemotherapy options, dose intensity, and duration of treatment. The emergence of multidrug-resistant cancer cells (MDR) results in the higher costs needed in the treatment of AML patients. The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate the potential of active compounds from Cyperus rotundus on the activity of the Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) cell line HL-60 APL through inhibition of proliferation, cell cycle, differentiation, and induction of apoptosis in the treatment of AML. The bioavailability of the compound to be taken orally was analyzed by Human Intestine Absorption (HIA+). Potential pathways inhibiting proliferation, cell cycle, differentiation, and induction of apoptosis in the treatment of AML were analyzed using a Structure-Activity Relationship approach with the PASS SERVER program. Pathway analysis was carried out using STITCH and Cytoscape v.3.5.1 programs. The study results showed that nutgrass has six active compounds quercetin, luteolin, apigenin, camphor, sitosterol, and gallic acid, synergizing the main pathway of cell activity (Pa>0.7).Conclusion of Cyperus rotundus extract has a high potential synergistically as an anti-leukemia herbal medicine.
