Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with a pluralistic legal system, exhibits interactions among state law, customary law, and religious law in law enforcement practices. Aceh is a region that shows the strongest interaction between customary law and Islamic law, which are historically and sociologically understood as a single normative entity, as reflected in the philosophy of hukom ngon adat lagee zat ngon sifeut. This article analyzes the forms and patterns of interaction between Acehnese customary law and Islamic law in restorative justice practices, the mechanisms for resolving cases through Acehnese customary institutions, and the challenges and legal implications of their implementation within Indonesia’s national legal system. This research employs normative legal research methods, including statutory, conceptual, and historical approaches, supported by a review of relevant literature and legal documents. The results indicate that restorative justice practices in Aceh are grounded in the integration of customary and Islamic law values, emphasizing deliberation, forgiveness, compensation, and the restoration of social relations, particularly in resolving cases of minor assault, domestic conflict, and violations of moral norms. However, the implementation of customary and sharia-based restorative justice still faces challenges, including disharmony with national law, differing perceptions of justice, and limited formal legitimacy. Therefore, regulatory harmonization and institutional strengthening are needed so that restorative justice practices grounded in customary and Islamic law in Aceh can function effectively and fairly, and align with the principles of a modern rule of law.

Abstract

This study explores the development and thematic structure of research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Islamic education using a bibliometric approach. A total of 234 English-language journal articles indexed in Scopus between 2010 and 2025 were analyzed using a focused keyword strategy combining “Islamic Education” and “Artificial Intelligence.” Bibliometric indicators and visualization techniques were employed to examine publication trends, influential contributors, and thematic patterns. The findings reveal a rapid growth of publications since 2022, with research output dominated by Indonesia and Malaysia. The thematic analysis shows that AI related technological themes occupy a central position, while Islamic educational ethics, epistemology, and institutional dimensions remain marginal. This indicates that AI is largely treated as an instrumental tool rather than a transformative force within Islamic education. The study highlights the need for future research to integrate AI development with the philosophical, ethical, and spiritual foundations of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the concept of Qaulan Sadida as the foundation of Islamic communication ethics in facing the post-truth phenomenon and to analyze its implementation in Islamic Religious Education materials to shape students' digital literacy. The method used is a qualitative approach through literature study with primary data sources in the form of Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab, the book Pendidikan Agama Islam dan Budi Pekerti (Islamic Religious Education and Morality), and Post-Truth by Lee McIntyre, supported by various relevant scientific journals. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that Qaulan Sadida does not only mean speaking the truth literally, but also includes accuracy, factual honesty, and moral responsibility in communication. The reconstruction of this value is relevant in the face of a post-truth culture that blurs the line between fact and opinion. The integration of Qaulan Sadida into teaching materials has the potential to strengthen students' digital literacy through the habit of critical thinking, the practice of tabayyun, and the application of polite and responsible media ethics. In practical terms, these findings provide a conceptual basis for the development of learning materials and strategies that are contextualized to the digital reality. The values of Qaulan Sadida can be operationalized as a framework for ethical communication in cyberspace, thereby not only equipping students with technical skills, but also shaping their digital character. The contribution of this research lies in strengthening the integration of Qur'anic values in digital literacy to produce a generation of Muslims who are critical, polite, and empowered to break the chain of disinformation in the post truth era.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education has a strategic role in shaping the character of students, especially discipline and responsibility attitudes that are the basis for success in the learning process and social life. This study aims to describe and analyze the strategies of Islamic Religious Education teachers in shaping student discipline and responsibility attitudes at SMP Negeri 2 Colomadu. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The research subjects were Islamic Religious Education teachers, while data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing by maintaining the validity of the data. The results of the study show that the formation of students' attitudes of discipline and responsibility is carried out through the example of teachers in daily behavior, habituation of religious and school cultural activities, giving appreciation and educational reprimands, and continuous communication between teachers and parents. The example of teachers is the main factor in internalizing character values, while habituating activities such as 3S, prayer before learning, and congregational Zuhur prayers play a role in fostering students' discipline and a sense of responsibility consistently. Giving appreciation and reprimands is carried out to strengthen positive behavior and correct violations in an educational manner. However, this study also found that there are obstacles in character development, especially the influence of mobile phone use and the family environment and student associations that are less supportive. This study concludes that the formation of character discipline and responsibility requires a sustainable strategy and synergy between schools and families so that character values can be optimally internalized in students.

Abstract

This article examines QS. Al-Isra':36 in the perspective of epistemic ethics and moral responsibility, as well as its relevance in responding to contemporary Artificial Intelligence (AI) ethical challenges. This verse emphasizes the prohibition of following something without a valid basis of knowledge and places hearing, sight, and heart as human epistemic devices that will be held accountable. In the Islamic tradition, knowledge is not understood as a neutral entity, but rather as a mandate that contains moral and religious implications. Through a thematic interpretation approach and normative ethical analysis, this article integrates classical and contemporary interpretations with global AI ethical discourse, particularly the concepts of responsibility gap, human accountability, and algorithm-based disinformation problems. The results of the study show that the ethical crisis in the use of AI is not just a technical issue, but an epistemic and moral crisis of humans in receiving, producing, and disseminating information. QS. Al-Isra':36 affirms that ethical responsibility cannot be transferred to technological systems, because AI lacks moral awareness and intention. Therefore, this verse can be positioned as the normative foundation of Qur'anic ethics in building an AI ethical framework that emphasizes human accountability, ethical supervision, and the formation of responsible epistemic character in the digital age.

Abstract

This paper examines the thoughts of Ibn Thufail's Islamic educational philosophy through his monumental work Hayy Ibn Yaqdzan. The purpose of this paper is to understand the background of Ibn Thufail's life and intellectual journey, to describe the main ideas in the story of Hayy Ibn Yaqdzan, and to analyze the relevance of the concept of Islamic educational philosophy contained therein to the development of science and education today. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were obtained from the primary work of Ibn Thufail Hayy Ibn Yaqdzan and various secondary sources in the form of books, scientific journals, and relevant literature. The data analysis technique was descriptive-analytical, namely by describing the content of the text and then analyzing it philosophically and educationally. The results of the study show that the philosophy of Islamic education in the story of Hayy Ibn Yaqdzan emphasizes the importance of the natural and potential of human reason, nature as a source and medium of learning, education through experience and reflection, stages of intellectual and spiritual development, independent learning, and harmony between reason and revelation. The ultimate goal of Islamic education according to Ibnu Thufail is the achievement of ma'rifatullah and the formation of human beings who are knowledgeable, faithful and have noble character. Ibn Thufail's thoughts remain relevant as a basis for developing holistic and humanistic Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

Purpose: This study focuses on analyzing Islamic ethical principles in light of the rapid development of artificial intelligence, highlighting how Islamic legal and moral values can be adapted to guide technological innovation in ways that serve human welfare and preserve human dignity. Methodology: The research employs a descriptive-analytical methodology that combines Qur’anic texts, prophetic traditions (hadith), and Islamic intellectual sources, complemented by an analysis of recent academic literature (2020–2026) on Islamic ethics and smart technologies. The study also includes a comparison between the Islamic perspective and contemporary Western viewpoints to identify differences in philosophical foundations and ethical objectives, as noted in recent studies (Noordin & Zailan, 2025; Ismail & Berghout, 2025). Result: The findings indicate that Islamic ethics possess a unique ability to regulate the boundaries of technological development through the five objectives of Sharia (maqasid al-shariah): protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. In contrast, the Western perspective tends to emphasize utility and technical efficiency, whereas the Islamic perspective focuses on intention, purpose, and justice (Ridzuan et al., 2025; Manaf & Azzman, 2025). Application: Based on this, the study proposes an Islamic model of technological ethics that can be integrated into Arab and Islamic technology policies to develop responsible artificial intelligence systems. The study also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between Islamic scholars and engineers to ensure that modern technological ethics are aligned with the objectives of Sharia (Zainuddin et al., 2025; Ahmad et al., 2025).

Abstract

The development of flexible working patterns, particularly for freelance workers, is a phenomenon that is inseparable from the transformation of the modern labour market and the digital economy. However, Indonesia's labour law system is still oriented towards conventional employment relationships, so it is not yet able to provide adequate legal certainty and protection for freelance workers. This study aims to analyse the legal position of freelance workers in Indonesia's labour law system and the forms of legal protection for the fulfilment of their normative rights. The research method used is normative legal research with a legislative, conceptual, and limited comparative approach to international labour standards. The results of the study show that the absence of explicit regulations regarding freelance workers creates a legal grey area that results in weak protection of their rights to wages, social security, and occupational welfare. This condition places freelance workers in the category of precarious work, which is socially and economically vulnerable. This study emphasises the urgency of updating labour regulations to be more inclusive and adaptive, using the International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards on non-standard employment as a normative reference, in order to realise a fair and sustainable labour system.

Abstract

Purpose: The goal of this study is to investigate the students’ life experience, the challenges and opportunities they undergo in English as Lingua Franca (ELF) communication, as well as the influence of these experiences on their confidence, motivation, and identity as English users. Methodology: This qualitative study explores EFL students’ perception of practicing English in real-time communication with international interlocutors during the video conference dialogues on global issues. Data were collected and triangulated from semi structured interviews with eight students as interviewees, observation notes compiled during the international video conference sessions, and students’ reflective writings. In analysing the data, thematic analysis was employed to identify the recurring patterns across the data sources. Results: The findings present that students viewed English as a primary tool for international communication rather than as an academic subject, prioritizing intelligibility and meaning-making over native-like norms and grammatical accuracy. The data also reveal that participants discover linguistic and intercultural difficulties, such as diverse accent variation, lack of academic vocabulary, speed of communication, and spontaneous responses. However, these existing challenges boosted the development of communicative strategies and willingness to communicate. Moreover, repeated participation in real-time international video conference contribute to gradual improvements in confidence, motivation, and sense of legitimacy as English users. Applications/Originality/Value: This study emphasizes the pedagogical meaning of learners’ participation in authentic international video conferences and highlights the urgency of integrating ELF-oriented practice toward English language education. By centralizing students’ voices, this research provides a deeper comprehension of English in real-life communicative practice, especially in global education settings.
