Abstract

General Background: Religion and democracy are two pivotal forces shaping social and political systems worldwide. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the relationship between religion and democracy is further complicated by the centrality of Pancasila as the state ideology, necessitating a nuanced understanding of its interaction with religious values. Knowledge Gap: While numerous studies have addressed religion’s role in politics, few have conducted a comparative analysis between local Islamic scholars and Western political theorists in the context of Pancasila and global dynamics. Aims: This study aims to analyze the perspectives of Yudian Wahyudi and Samuel P. Huntington on the intersection of religion and democracy, highlighting their similarities, differences, and contemporary relevance. Results: Findings show that Yudian conceptualizes religion as an integrative moral foundation that harmonizes with Pancasila through integrative tauhid and maqasid al-shari‘ah, while Huntington emphasizes religion’s ambivalence, viewing it as both a driver of democratization and a source of civilizational conflict. Novelty: The study contributes a comparative framework that bridges Indonesian Islamic thought with global political theories, enriching discourse on democracy and religion. Implications: These insights underscore the importance of prudent management of religion in politics to foster inclusive and sustainable democratic governance in plural societies Highlights: Comparative analysis of local and global perspectives. Religion as both moral foundation and conflict source. Implications for inclusive democratic governance. Keywords: Pancasila, Religion, Democracy, Yudian Wahyudi, Huntington

Abstract

General Background: The integration of information technology (IT) in Islamic banking has transformed operational processes, particularly in financing services such as gold pawning. Specific Background: Bank Syariah X implemented the E-Steem application to streamline assessment, analysis, and disbursement processes in gold pawns while ensuring compliance with Sharia principles. Knowledge Gap: Despite technological adoption, limited research has explored how user perceptions and acceptance affect system utilization in Islamic pawn financing. Aims: This study investigates user acceptance of the E-Steem application using the UTAUT model, focusing on performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions. Results: Findings indicate that these four UTAUT factors collectively shape user acceptance, accelerating pawn processes, reducing errors, and enhancing transparency. Novelty: This research uniquely combines qualitative descriptive methods with UTAUT analysis in a Sharia-compliant pawn context. Implications: Understanding user acceptance provides guidance for optimizing IT systems in Islamic financial services, promoting operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. Highlights: Four UTAUT variables shape user adoption in Sharia-compliant pawns. E-Steem accelerates pawn processes and reduces operational errors. Findings guide IT optimization in Islamic financial services. Keywords: Gold Pawn; UTAUT; Islamic Banking; Technology Adoption; User Acceptance

Abstract

General Background: Arabic holds a central role in Islamic education as the language of the Qur’an and Hadith, yet many students in Indonesia still show low interest in learning it. Specific Background: The Turjuman Al-Qur’an program, introduced by the Ummi Foundation in 2015, seeks to strengthen students’ connection with the Qur’an while improving their Arabic learning experience. Knowledge Gap: Despite its implementation, limited studies have explored how this program shapes students’ learning interest, particularly in elementary school settings. Aims: This study investigates the characteristics of students’ interest in learning Arabic, the underlying causes, and the ways they express such interest. Results: Findings reveal five key characteristics of learning interest: focused attention, good memory retention, enjoyment, satisfaction with outcomes, and active participation. Three main causes emerged: internal motivation, teacher methods, and structured classroom rules. Students expressed their interest verbally, through actions, academic achievements, or both simultaneously. Novelty: Unlike previous studies focusing on comprehension, this research uniquely examines the multidimensional nature of Arabic learning interest in Turjuman Al-Qur’an students. Implications: The results highlight the importance of combining innovative pedagogy, supportive classroom structures, and motivational strategies to foster sustainable Arabic learning interest in young learners. Highlights: Identifies five behavioral indicators of Arabic learning interest. Explores three key causes shaping student motivation. Reveals four distinct ways students express their learning interest. Keywords: Arabic Learning, Student Interest, Turjuman Al-Qur’an, Islamic Education, Motivation

Abstract

General background: Parental involvement is a crucial factor in supporting children’s learning development, yet many parents remain insufficiently engaged in their child’s education. Specific background: Religiosity has been associated with parenting practices, but its role in shaping parental involvement remains inconclusive, particularly when psychological constructs such as self-esteem are considered. Knowledge gap: Prior studies often examined religiosity and parental involvement separately, with limited attention to self-esteem as a mediating variable. Aims: This study investigates the relationship between religiosity and parental involvement, with self-esteem serving as a mediator. Results: A survey of 248 parents from SDN X in Krian District, Sidoarjo, analyzed using a mediation path model, revealed that religiosity had a significant direct relationship with parental involvement (z = 3.625, p < 0.001). Additionally, self-esteem significantly mediated this relationship (z = 2.324, p = 0.020). Novelty: The study demonstrates the psychological pathway by which religiosity translates into active parental participation through self-esteem, adding a new dimension to existing parenting models. Implications: Findings suggest that strengthening both religiosity and parental self-esteem may foster more consistent involvement in children’s education and care. Highlights: Religiosity directly predicts parental involvement. Self-esteem significantly mediates this relationship. Study introduces a psychological pathway in parenting research. Keywords: Parental Involvement, Religiosity, Self-Esteem, Mediation, Parenting

Abstract

General Background: Family planning remains a debated topic in Muslim societies, balancing between the Islamic emphasis on procreation and the obligation to preserve maternal health and family welfare. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the government promotes family planning through the National Population and Family Planning Agency, yet religious interpretations continue to shape societal acceptance. The Tafsir Ilmi Seksualitas dalam Perspektif Al-Qur’an dan Sains, an official state exegesis, offers a unique integration of Qur’anic principles and scientific reasoning. Knowledge Gap: Despite extensive discourse on family planning in Islamic law, few studies analyze its interpretation within Indonesia’s official government exegesis. Aims: This study investigates the concept of family planning in the state-sanctioned Scientific Exegesis of Sexuality in the Perspective of the Qur’an and Science to understand how it reconciles religious doctrine and modern scientific insights. Results: Findings reveal that the exegesis permits family planning as long as it prevents harm, drawing on verses such as Al-Baqarah (2:233) and An-Nisa (4:9) and acknowledging methods like ‘azl, condoms, IUDs, and hormonal contraceptives. Novelty: This study offers the first systematic analysis of family planning through Indonesia’s official Qur’anic interpretation. Implications: The results affirm that family planning aligns with Islamic principles of welfare (maslahah), providing theological legitimacy for national health policies. Highlights: Integrates Qur’anic teachings with modern science in state-sanctioned interpretation. Affirms permissibility of family planning for maternal and family welfare. Provides theological support for Indonesia’s national health policy. Keywords: Family Planning, Islamic Exegesis, Qur’anic Interpretation, Reproductive Health

Abstract

General background: Mastery of Arabic is fundamental in Islamic education as it enables students to understand primary Islamic sources such as the Qur’an and Hadith. Specific background: Many students in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) struggle to read Arab Gundul (Arabic script without diacritics), particularly due to difficulties in understanding nahwu and shorof. Knowledge gap: Although several teaching methods exist, limited studies have explored the effectiveness of the Nakhlah method—an innovative, song-based approach integrating Quantum Learning principles—on students’ reading competence. Aims: This study investigates the relationship between students’ responses to the Nakhlah method and their ability to read Arab Gundul in Tafsir Muyassar at Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyatul Iman Malang. Results: Using quantitative methods with Pearson correlation and simple linear regression on 17 students, findings reveal a significant relationship (p = 0.004 < 0.05) and a strong correlation (r = 0.655), with 42.9% of reading ability explained by the Nakhlah method. Novelty: This research presents empirical evidence of the pedagogical contribution of the Nakhlah method in improving Arabic literacy. Implications: The method can serve as an innovative alternative in Arabic language education within Islamic institutions. Highlights: Introduces the Nakhlah method as a song-based Arabic learning model. Demonstrates a strong correlation between method response and reading skill. Suggests innovation for improving Arabic instruction in pesantren. Keywords: Nakhlah Method, Arab Gundul, Arabic Literacy, Islamic Education, Quantum Learning
