Abstract

The selection of Javanese alphabet as a theme of artwork motive creation is intended to introduce and preserve Indonesian cultures through artwork. There are three objectives of this artwork creation. First, creating handmade batik motive design in the form of Javanese alphabet style. Second, creating new design of Javanese blouse. Third, applying handmade batik motive derived from Javanese alphabet to the Javanese blouse. Data for analysis was collected through literature review and field exploration. The art creation method of SP. Gustami was used for creating the artwork which consists of three steps, namely exploration, design and embodiment. As a result, we managed to create four handmade batik motives in the form of Javanese alphabet style. Each motive was given a title according to its characteristics, namely Puspa Nala, Puspa Kara, Puspa Hayu, and Puspa Jawi. Finally, it can be concluded that this art creation produces innovation in the form of handmade batik motives derived from Javanese alphabet and applied for the Javanese blouse

Abstract

The Prophet Muhammad's Hadiths are one of the primary sources of Islamic teachings, necessitating meticulous verification to preserve their authenticity. This study examines the sanad and matan criticism of popular hadiths among preachers, focusing on three: the sanctity of the month of Rajab as "Allah's month," the miraculous birth of the Prophet Muhammad circumcised, and the encouragement to seek knowledge even to China. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, this research evaluates the authenticity of these hadiths through classical and modern references. The results indicate that these hadiths are classified as weak (dha'if) or fabricated (maudhu’) due to critical flaws in their chains of transmission and inconsistencies in their texts. For instance, the hadith on Rajab conflicts with Quranic and authentic prophetic narratives, and the claim of the Prophet’s circumcised birth lacks credible supporting evidence. The study underscores the importance of rigorous sanad and matan analysis to ensure the preservation of Islamic teachings, guiding preachers and society toward reliable sources.

Abstract

General Background: Religion and democracy are two pivotal forces shaping social and political systems worldwide. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the relationship between religion and democracy is further complicated by the centrality of Pancasila as the state ideology, necessitating a nuanced understanding of its interaction with religious values. Knowledge Gap: While numerous studies have addressed religion’s role in politics, few have conducted a comparative analysis between local Islamic scholars and Western political theorists in the context of Pancasila and global dynamics. Aims: This study aims to analyze the perspectives of Yudian Wahyudi and Samuel P. Huntington on the intersection of religion and democracy, highlighting their similarities, differences, and contemporary relevance. Results: Findings show that Yudian conceptualizes religion as an integrative moral foundation that harmonizes with Pancasila through integrative tauhid and maqasid al-shari‘ah, while Huntington emphasizes religion’s ambivalence, viewing it as both a driver of democratization and a source of civilizational conflict. Novelty: The study contributes a comparative framework that bridges Indonesian Islamic thought with global political theories, enriching discourse on democracy and religion. Implications: These insights underscore the importance of prudent management of religion in politics to foster inclusive and sustainable democratic governance in plural societies Highlights: Comparative analysis of local and global perspectives. Religion as both moral foundation and conflict source. Implications for inclusive democratic governance. Keywords: Pancasila, Religion, Democracy, Yudian Wahyudi, Huntington

Abstract

Dakwah through mass media has become a key strategy in spreading Islamic teachings to a wide audience. Advances in information technology have enabled preachers to reach the public quickly and efficiently, especially through platforms such as television, radio, and social media. The purpose of this study is to identify problems in preaching and appropriate methods when preaching using digital-based mass media. The research method used is a literature review, a research method that involves searching, collecting, and analyzing secondary data sources such as books, journals, and other documents. The results of the study show that varying levels of religious understanding among the public also affect the acceptance of da'wah messages, requiring preachers to deliver material that is relevant and easily understood by various groups. Commercial pressures are an additional obstacle, as the mass media often prioritizes content that is more financially profitable over da'wah content, which is generally educational and serious in nature. The proposed solutions to overcome these challenges include the use of a contextual approach, adaptation of communication styles, segmentation of mad'u, and professionalization of da'wah through technology training. With this strategy, da'wah through the mass media can meet the needs of modern society without sacrificing the essence of Islamic teachings

Abstract

This paper critically examines the understanding of Aaron Rock-Singer, a contemporary Western academic in the field of modern Islamic studies, especially related to Islamism and revivalism in the Middle East. His works highlight the role of media, state, and daily practices in shaping Muslim religious authority and identity, especially in the context of modern Egypt. Using a social history approach and discursive theory, Rock-Singer attempts to reconstruct how Islam is practiced in the public sphere. However, this approach has been criticized by various groups, especially Muslim academics and postcolonial thinkers. The criticism is directed at Rock-Singer's tendency to ignore the spiritual, normative and epistemological dimensions of Islamic religious experience, as well as his reliance on the secular-liberal framework of analysis typical of Western academia. This paper aims to comprehensively evaluate Rock-Singer's understanding by addressing methodological and epistemological weaknesses from an internal Islamic perspective. It emphasizes the need for a more dialogical approach between Islamic intellectual traditions and Western academic studies so that the study of Islam does not merely become an object of outside study, but part of an inclusive global intellectual conversation.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted as a response to the flash flood disaster that struck Woyla Barat District, Aceh Barat Regency, in 2025, which caused damage to settlements, disruption of socio-economic activities, and limited access to basic needs for the affected communities. This activity is considered important due to the high vulnerability of the area to hydrometeorological disasters and the need for active involvement of higher education institutions during the emergency response phase. The objective of the program was to support the fulfillment of basic needs for affected communities while strengthening the role of local institutions through a community-based approach. The method employed was a responsive and participatory approach, including coordination with partners, beneficiary data collection, humanitarian aid distribution, and brief community assistance. The results indicate that the aid was distributed appropriately, enhanced social solidarity, and reduced the economic burden on communities during the early post-disaster phase. This activity highlights the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions and local organizations in community-based disaster response.

Abstract

This study examines the process of the Islamization of knowledge during the reign of Caliph Harun al-Rashid as a significant phase in the development of Islamic civilization. During this period, the Islamic world absorbed foreign knowledge from Greek, Persian, Indian, and Roman traditions, which was subsequently translated, critically evaluated, and integrated into the Islamic epistemological framework. Employing a qualitative method with a literature-based approach, this research analyzes classical historical sources and contemporary scholarly journals using historical-descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that Bayt al-Hikmah functioned as a major center for translation and scientific development, fostering cross-cultural and interreligious scholarly collaboration and contributing to advances in mathematics, medicine, astronomy, and chemistry. The integration of external knowledge also influenced the development of logic, kalam, and usul al-fiqh, leading to a more rational intellectual tradition. Despite criticism from traditionalist groups, particularly concerning the influence of Greek philosophy, this process strengthened Islamic epistemological boundaries and ensured that scientific development remained aligned with the principle of tawhid.
