Abstract

One of the teachings and the difference between philosophy and other sciences is the importance of rational and objective thinking. The implication of this teaching is the birth of an open-minded, inclusive view and acceptance o the truth from wherever it comes, including from different religions and cultures. Openness and acceptance of differences are the indicators of religious moderation. Therefore, there is an inherent relationship between openness and religious moderation. Without an inclusive view, there is no religious moderation. Likewise, a person's inclusive and moderate view will be present only if he thinks rationally and objectively. This article aims to analyze the meaning of religious moderation from the perspective of Muslim philosophers and its implementation in history, either in the global or Indonesian context. This research answers and seeks an alternate solution to the problem of extremism and radicalism in the name of religion. The method used is philosophical and historical-hermeneutic. In addition to library data, the research sources also use field data obtained through observation and interviews with students, alumni, and lecturers of Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy (AFI) in Indonesia.

Abstract

The phenomenon of violence in the name of Islam gains various responses by which Muslims are often spacegoated. Jihad value which is thought in Islam is often used as an alibi to justify violence. An education system such as high school is the perfect place to teach religious radicalism. It is like two sides of a coin; on the one hand, the instruction can help religious teachers instill Islamic teachings, but on the other hand, it tends to provoke students to become intolerant. The focus of this research was the teachers and students of Public Senior High School Number 1 of Pariaman City, West Sumatra. Qualitative method was used in conducting this study. It aimed at finding deradicalization activities of Islamic religious learning at Senior High School Number 1 of Pariaman City. The result of the study shows that high school students are the perfect objects to accept the doctrine of radicalization. Hence, high school students are often targeted as terrorist recruitment targets. The government through schools has the capability to make tools to identify radical ideas taught to the students, one of which was carried out at Senior High School Number 1 of Pariaman City through deradicalization of Islamic teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to clarify and examine the pattern of the hadith narrations regarding marriage that are cited, authenticated, and validated in the legal reasoning of religious court judges' rulings. This study is a library study that takes the form of a written living hadith. By using the takhrij al-hadith approach, the hadith's veracity is confirmed, and its applicability is assessed using the perspectives and techniques of hadith experts. Inductive techniques are then used to process the outcomes. Two methods of citing hadith history were discovered via the research: using a template application and directly citing the hadith book. Only five of the 22 cases in the subfield of marriage, including marital dispensation, wali 'adhal, divorce, determining the parentage of the kid and determining the child's adoption, and Itsbat of marriage, include hadith citations. The five examples pertain to seven hadith histories that fit the criteria for Prophet Saw's hadiths. Four are fully cited with sanad and rawi, two are only stated with sanads that differ from rawi, and one is quoted without sanad and rawi (divorce case). Although it does not have legal implications that lead to the annulment of the judge's decision, the condition of the absence of quoting hadith as one of the legal considerations in copies of the decisions of cases shows the lack of authority of decisions that characterize Religious Courts.

Abstract

The controversy of the Prophet Muhammad's caricature in Charlie Hebdo magazine resulted in Muslim communities’ protests from various parts of the world, including Indonesia. In response to this religious harassment, various steps were taken, including boycotting French products and criticizing secularism, which has been the constitutional principle of French. This article aimed at providing another perspective in viewing the controversy by looking back at the point where this problem began, the caricature of the Prophet Muhammad. This study sees that caricatures are not only inanimate objects, but they also have agency. To be able to see this agency in the particularity of space and time, we rely on semiotic ideology as the theoretical framework. Semiotic ideology is an assumption of signs that see various possibilities in signs, including their materiality. The Charlie Hebdo controversy is a clash of semiotic ideologies formed by the particularity of space and time and manifested in the responses shown in the face of the Charlie Hebdo controversy. In Indonesia, this semiotic ideology was born from political polarization, religious resurgence, and conservative turn. We see that the analysis of icon and materiality still have not really taken any significant part of religious studies and Islamic studies in Indonesia, including in studying the Charlie Hebdo controversy.

Abstract

This research offers a review of the concept of Walisongo's religious moderation. As for mapping the concept of religious moderation in Walisongo comprehensively, four indicators of moderation of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia are used as an analytical tool, including national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and accommodativeness to local culture. This research is descriptive qualitative research using the historical method. Meanwhile, primary data sources were obtained from the book "Atlas Walisongo", and secondary data sources were obtained from several other supporting kinds of literature. The results of this study show that Walisongo's concept of moderation in terms of four indicators, namely (1) national commitment includes a pledge of loyalty to Majapahit and the stipulation of the Kutara Manawa Dharmashastra law as the constitution of Demak. (2) Tolerance includes the equality of Nawa Dewata's Hinduistic cosmology with Walisongo's Sufistic cosmology and respect for the values of other religious beliefs. (3) Anti-violence includes expanding the influence of Islam through family ties with community leaders and nobles and applying da'wah based on religious humanism. (4) Accommodation of local culture includes Islamization of terms in Hindu-Buddhist and Kapitayan and harmonizing Islamic values with Hindu-Buddhist religious traditions, Kapitayan, and Bhairawa Tantra.

The complexity of Ibn al-‘Arabi’s teachings needs to be investigate to respond the accusations from the religious conservative groups that state the practices done by the spiritualists are deviant religious teachings and even are considered as strange behavior and a symptom of mental illness. Through literature study, this research uses descriptive analysis method or content analysis with a normative theological approach to Ibn Arabi's works. The present study first investigated how Ibn al-’Arabi explained the dichotomy between the exoteric and esoteric dimensions and also its impact on the psychology in his spiritual philosophy. The findings of this study showed that the stages of the spiritual such as repentance, asceticism, austerity, ecstasy, clairvoyance, and so on are the transcendental consciousness which cannot be understood using only the esoteric dimension, but also using the obedience toward the exoteric dimension.
