Abstract

The need for energy for human life is a very natural thing. Energy is very closely related to human survival. However, the choice to use energy is in the hands of humans. This paper aims to examine the use of coal for fossil energy from the perspective of al-Ghazali's mashlahah. This research is a literature review that uses the Islamic legal philosophy approach to portray the use of coal. Data is gathered from various studies and surveys and analyzed through the lens of Mashallah al-Ghazali. The results of this study state that the maintenance of the right to life and the preservation of human life cannot be negotiated at any price. Coal and fossil fuel energy, although they have commercial value, boost economic growth, and promote people's welfare, have ecological impacts that pose threats to human survival. The use of coal as a fossil fuel is not in line with al-Ghazali's three levels of mashlahah, namely dharuriyah, hajiyah, and tahsinihyah. Renewable energy is seen as a viable alternative to fossil coal energy in reducing the impact of mafsadat, which endangers human life.

Abstract

In this study, the author explains the contribution of Syu'bah Asa in the Qur'an interpretation in Indonesia through his work, Dalam Cahaya Al-Qur’an: Tafsir Ayat-ayat Sosial Politik, a contextual socio-politics interpreting of the New Order government. The discourse in this interpretation was developed in a critical, straightforward, and bold content, aiming at a critique of various misappropriations during the New Order. This research is a literature study with descriptive analysis methods, which helps the author see Syu'bah Asa’s knowledge metamorphosis, approach, socio-political criticism, and interpretations’ contribution to the intellectual development of Islam in Indonesia. The results of this study confirm that the text of the Qur'an should be read in a social context when the Qur'an is derived, which helps us to find the moral legality of a verse that can be applied in socio-political dynamics that are constantly changing. The critical interpretation carried out by Syu'bah Asa is one of the slick examples of various contextual interpretations. Syu’bah Asa’s work has contributed to an understanding of socio-political dynamics in Indonesia, which at that time was not much explored.

Abstract

Philosophers have long echoed various views about nature, but these concepts still reduce the meaning of nature itself. In recent developments, nature seems to be perceived as dead and has an identity that is very far from the side of human existence on earth. As a result, nature becomes the best and often becomes an outlet for human greed. Because of that, it is a crucial requirement to look at the latest perspective holistically in studying natural problems. This article discusses Mulyadhi Kartanegera’s holistic-dialogical paradigm in understanding the concept of nature. in answering research, data was collected through the works of Mulyadhi Kartanegara and supported by documents, books, and articles related to the object of research. The data that was collected was analyzed using descriptive-interpretative methods and holistic data analysis to get a conclusion. The research result show that nature in Mulyadhi Kartanegara’s holistic-dialogical paradigm is alive in the same sense as humans who have an awareness of intelligence and beauty. Various natural abilities, such as intelligence, can exceed human capacity. In this case, nature must be treated as a living system with self-control and regulation, called the sunnah of Allah.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the idea of renewing thought in the minds of Zaki Naguib Mahmud.  The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative and is included in the literature research. The process of collecting data in this study is by observing, in the sense of tracking various references that have relevance related to the focus of the study, such as his work entitled Qishah al-Falsafah al-hadithah, Qisshah al-Falsafah al-Yunaniyah, Qisshatul Adab fi al-‘Alam as well as from books, articles, and so on which function to support these data. The data analysis technique used in this research is the content analysis method. From the studies conducted, the linguistic revolution is the entrance to renewal. Zaki saw the need for a linguistic revolution. He offers to change from the tradition of words to the practice of work and from words to meaning. The renewal of religious thought offered by Zaki is an epistemological criticism of Islamic religious belief. Zaki invites us to examine and differentiate between Religion, Religious Knowledge, and Religious Thought. For Zaki, religion is sacred and sacred. Meanwhile, religious knowledge and thought are impure; they can be touched and criticized. Islamic thought turath is divided into two, al-Ma‘qul and al-La Ma‘qul. The attention of Muslims to the latter rather than the former and their narrow understanding has caused them to be backward. So serious attention is needed to the ma’qul side of classical Islamic heritage and reinterpreting the meaning of al-La Ma’qul.

Abstract

Film literacy for female university students living in pesantren (santriwati) is a rare issue to discuss since this issue is not considered the primary subject for students living in pesantren (Islamic boarding school). However, it becomes crucial, as the film is a potential media transferring visual ideas about gender and sexuality, which might relate to an individual’s behavior. Moreover, santriwati are likely to have unique characteristics. They are living and learning religiosity in pesantren, and at the same time, they are studying sciences in college or university. Normally, living in pesantren is tied to strict religious norms and traditions. On the other hand, as university students, dealing with a more flexible and open culture is inevitable. They need to read references, watch films, and enjoy novels or other literary works as part of campus life and self-entertainment. This paper examines how film literacy culture among santriwati relates to their sexual desire expression. As many as fifteen santriwati from different pesantren in Madura were taken as the respondents. The results of this study indicate that the literacy culture of film among santriwati affects their expression of sexual desires, although they could hardly express them due to religious norms and values they learned in pesantren.

Abstract

Sumbayang Ampek Puluah or Forty Days Prayer is an annual tradition carried out by the congregation of Surau Gadang Haji Miskin, Koto Tinggi Pandai Sikek, West Sumatra. This paper examines the transmission lines and reasons for the Sumbayang Ampek Puluah tradition's existence and survival. This research studies living hadith using the phenomenological and sociological-knowledge approaches of Peter L. Berger. Field facts show that the Sumbayang Ampek Puluah tradition is carried out every 15th of the month of Sha'ban to the 25th of the month of Ramadan. This study found that there are three motivations for the congregation to implement this tradition, apart from the large reward (pahala) of the congregational prayer: (1) because of the large Sumbayang Ampek Puluah fadilah mentioned in the hadith, especially if the time of its implementation is in the month of Ramadan; (2) to preserve the traditions of the ancestors; (3) because other congregations influenced them. The benefits of this tradition are calm and peace of mind, discipline in worship, maintenance of kinship ties, and the growth of a high attitude of solidarity among fellow worshippers. Thus, they are determined to preserve and teach it to the next generation.
