Abstract

Young and low-skilled workers are the most affected groups due to the labor market disruption caused by the pandemic. One of the impacts is the transition of young workers, especially workers with low skills, or called blue-collar workers. The transition could be a change from blue-collar young workers to those Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET). This study aims to examine the determinants of the transition of blue-collar young workers who become Unemployed NEET or Inactive NEET during the pandemic. In this study, data from the National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) with individual panel observations, observed in two survey periods, namely August 2019 and August 2020, were analyzed using multinomial logistic regression. Demographic factors, human capital, and the risk status of COVID-19 in the area where young workers live are important issues in the transition of blue-collar young workers to NEET. Optimizing gender-based employment policies, implementing policies that suit the needs of young workers in rural or urban areas, as well as intensifying the use of the internet for work that can increase worker resilience, are some of the solutions to prevent the NEET transition from blue-collar young workers during the pandemic. Keywords: Blue-Collar Worker, Multinomial logistic regression, NEET, Sakernas, Young worker

Abstract

Education is one way to save oneself from poverty. There are 19.5 percent of poor people in East Java who have completed education at the senior high school level and above but are still in poor condition. This study aims to examine the effect of socio-economic and regional characteristics on the status of the poor with upper secondary education in each cultural area in the province of East Java. Using the 2021 Susenas data which was analyzed with binary logistic regression, it was found that there were differences in socio-economic characteristics in each cultural area. Disability disorders and gender affect educated poverty in the Arek area but have no effect in the Pandalungan, Mataraman, and Madura Islands areas. Formal and informal sector jobs only have an effect in the Pandalungan area and have no effect in other areas. Choosing to work in the primary sector only affects the Mataraman area. While the factors of age, access to technology and use of the internet reduce the opportunities for poverty in all cultural areas. Keywords: Poverty, Logistic Regression, Susenas, educated poor, cultural area

Using fixed effect regression models, this study confirms that there are beta absolute convergence and beta conditional convergence in Java Island during 2015-2019. Other findings are Local Own Source Revenue and Fiscal Balance Fund have a significant positive effect on per capita income growth, while Personnel Expenditure and Capital Expenditure have a significant negative effect on per capita income growth. The results also show that all indicators of fiscal decentralization play significant role in accelerating the convergence of per capita income. Based on the results of estimates, Local Government Own Source Revenue should be optimized and quality of government spending have to be improved to foster income per capita convergence between regions in Java Island. Keywords: income per capita convergence, fiscal decentralization regional inequality, absolute beta convergence, conditional beta convergence

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia's involvement in supporting the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Conference of the Parties-26/COP-26) in overcoming economic, social and environmental problems through low-carbon development, requires the acceleration of the implementation of Circular Economy (CE) practices. Circular Economy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery and Repair) is an alternative to switch from a linear/traditional economy (take-make-dispose). This research is aimed at exploring the extent to which the role of the younger generation (in terms of preferences, mindsets, and expectations) to become agents of change to accelerate the implementation of good practices in the CE.  A survey with a descriptive method involving 253 respondents (the younger generation) found that respondents did not mind being agents of change (with the range of answers agree and strongly agree was above 70%) to participate for the success of the CE practices, especially related to the desire to invite others to implement the CE economic practices (87%), willingness to dedicate time to set a positive example and be a part of a community that cares about the practices of  CE (84%). The findings of this research are then used as the basis for building a comprehensive CE model to examine its 3 dimensions, namely: stakeholder management, community engagement, and knowledge creation. Keywords: Circular Economy, Agent of Change, Stakeholder Management, Community Engagement, Knowledge Creation.

Abstract

The Foundation has an organ consisting of Trustees, Management, and Supervisors. The management of wealth and the implementation of foundation activities are carried out entirely by the Management. The foundation must periodically make an accountability report for the funds obtained from donors in detail related to the planned use of funds receipts and expenditure plans. The problem faced by the Foundation is how to obtain sustainable sources of funds used to finance the company's operational activities. As a result of this condition the Foundation cannot operate continuously. This problem is caused by 1) Lack of understanding of the Noor Arsy Foundation management regarding the preparation of the Foundation's financial strategic plan, so that the plan to obtain funding sources has not been well planned, 2) There is no good understanding of how to draw up a financial strategic plan to provide adequate financial information for sustainability. foundation, 3) Documentation of financial data information used to prepare financial strategic plans has not been well documented. Based on the problems above, it is very necessary to assist in the preparation of strategic financial plans to maintain the sustainability of the Foundation

This study aims to determine the determinants or factors that affect household food security in areas with moderate HDI status and areas with high HDI status. Based on the data of the National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) March 2021 from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), this study is conducted by using multinomial logistic regression method to archieve the objective. The results show that poverty status, dummy recipients of the BPNT program, presence of toilets and presence of toddlers have significant effect to the food security household in areas with high HDI status. While in areas with moderate HDI status, the factors that affect household food security are poverty status, gender of the head of the household, classification of residential area, presence of toilets and presence of toddlers. From this research it is necessary to apply policies that can strengthen household food security in both the moderata HDI and high HDI areas, especially in poor households with toddlers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the behavioral pattern of local government as seen from their spending regarding unconditional transfer and private income. Flypaper effect has been a major phenomenon in academic research. Nevertheless, in Indonesia, such research, especially the one focusing on the shift of unconditional transfer and private income, never been caried out. Over 22 years, Indonesia has been implementing decentralization which makes it more intriguing to see local governments’ budget and spending decisions’ motives. This paper uses a panel data from 476 districts and cities in Indonesia for 11 years. Classical assumption tests, endogeneity test as well as instrumental validation test were caried out before doing the regression. The result from two-stage least square regression shows that flypaper effect does not present in total spending yet appears in four other kinds of spending. Asymmetric response of those five are quite varied. Total expenditure and capital expenditure have symmetrical response. Meanwhile, operational spending and transfer spending have a fiscal replacement type of asymmetry. On the other hand, unexpected spending shows a fiscal restraint asymmetry. The direction of private income’s influence to spending also seen to be different from one another.

Abstract

This study aims to predict the financial distress of airline companies which is influenced by the ratio of liquidity, solvency, profitability, activity and investment. This research is inferential research with a quantitative approach. This research used financial statements of airline companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2018-2021 as the data. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the liquidity ratio (Current Ratio) and solvency ratio (Debt to Equity Ratio) partially had no effect on the prediction of financial distress as measured using Springate model. Profitability ratio (Return on Assets), activity ratio (Total Assets Turnover) and investment ratio (Price Erning Ratio) partially have a positive effect on the prediction of financial distress. The profitability ratio has an influence of 81%, the activity ratio has 27.8% and the investment ratio has 7.6% on the prediction of financial distress. The prediction result of financial distress are not solely influenced by the company's ability to pay debts, both short term and long term. Conditions related to asset performance, such as Return on Assets and Total Asset Turnover actually affect the prediction results of financial distress.
