Abstract

The focus of the writers’ analysis is the advertisements themselves, as the writer uses the process of signification that involves denotation, connotation, and myth. Those theories help the writers in analyzing the meaning of the advertisement first, and then figure out how meaning is created by the advertisement. Meaning in this research is an integrated form consisting the meaning from three level of signification process: denotative level, connotative level, and myth. This research uses qualitative content analysis method to describe the meaning of qualitative materials in a systematic way. At the end, those denotative meaning and connotative meaning build an image and create myth which naturalizes the image itself. Key Words: billboard advertisements, sampoerna a mild, semiotics, process of signification, connotation, denotation

Abstract

The character traits in Shinchan seem to be contrary to the structure of masculine and feminine traits. I am interested in discussing the feminine character traits that are adopted by the male characters and the masculine character traits that are adopted by the female characters in a patriarchal society in Japan. Under the patriarchal system, there are rigid segregation of gender roles and the expected feminine and masculine traits. The main purpose of this paper is that even though some of the male characters adopt the feminine character traits and the female characters adopt the masculine character traits, the gender roles Japanese patriarchal system remains unchanged

Abstract

This creative work is a cinematography report from the screenplay “Kidnap” by Indah Sari Y. The story tells about a criminal who is given a mission to kidnap the daughter of a deceased wealthy CEO, however the Man realized that he mistakenly kidnapped the wrong person. He is caught in the dilemma whether or not to let her go, yet his situation only gets worse when he is given the order to kill her. The cinematography of this film aims to convey the story and message that the director envisioned. Moreover, it aims to portray characterization through various elements of cinematography such as framing, lighting, and camera movement. It also intents to manipulate tone and mood through those cinematographic elements. To further understand the cinematography of this film, three main theories are used: low-key lighting, head-room and lead-room, and handheld camera movement. These theories are to help the cinematographer to convey the genre of psychological suspense, with the subgenre of crime drama. An in-depth analysis in this report will talk in details about how cinematography achieved the desired effects towards characterization, mood, and tone.
