Abstract

The purposes of this study are to find out what are the types of questions and questioning tactics used by native speaker teacher of English in teaching passive and active classes and what are the tactics of questioning used related to each type of questions being used by the native speaker teacher of English in passive and active Speaking 1 classes. The theories are taken from Wragg and Brown (2001). According to Wragg and Brown (2001) there are 3 types of questioning which are conceptual question, empirical question, and value question. Other than that, there are 7 tactics of questioning which are structuring, pitching and putting clearly, directing and distributing, pausing and pacing, prompting and probing, listening to replies and responding, and sequencing (Wrag & Brown, 2001). The findings showed that the teacher of Speaking 1 used the same types of questions which are conceptual and empirical types of questions. Furthermore, tactics of questioning that the teacher used are different in active and passive classes. The teacher mostly used empirical types of questioning for both passive and active classes. In teaching passive class, the teachers mostly asked sequencing of questions as the tactics of questioning. Abstract

The creative project I had written is a novel that is telling the story of a man named, Arya, who seems to be a good man while actually he has a very dark secret and past. He loves to hunt for girl in cafés and he later will do whatever he needs to do in captivating the girl’s heart. When he gets the girl’s heart and trust, he will do what he wants the most, the main purpose of his hunting which is overpowering the girl. In this story, I choose to write about the life of a serial rapist with the theme of love changes everything. It helps me in realizing my aim for writing this work which is to raise more awareness towards the cases of rape that happen around us. In rape cases, the victim is being sympathized while the criminal is being hated. While actually, the criminal also needs support from his surrounding in order to be a better man in the future. What I am trying to say is that we should hate his act, but not the person. In the story, Arya will see how people hate him even after he serves the fifteen years charges and willing to be a better person. As for the genre, I choose realistic fiction in order to make the story believable since it is written based on the research with the main character created according to the characteristic of serial rapist in real life.

Abstract

This thesis deals with the understanding of justice in the novel. I use theory of retributive justice and two supporting theories about morality and code of conducts of private investigators. In this analysis, I analyze two characters who have strong reasons in helping me understand the justice. I analyze Hercule Poirot because he is the main character and also symbolizes justice due to his moral choice in the story. Next, I analyze Linda Arden because she is the mastermind and has the strong emotional scar to bring out her point of view of justice. The conclusion that can be found in this analysis is that justice in retribution includes an action that precedes the legal procedure. It can justify some action outside the legal written law. Key words: Justice, morality, code, legality, procedure, criminal

Abstract

This short story series is a coming-of-age and dystopian series that focuses on the impacts of the fear of imagination and discrimination on preteens and how they cope with it. This fear is shown through a virus named imaginatio virus, a special virus that attacks the main characters to induce imagination. The government made imagination-prevention and discrimination rules to get rid of the virus completely. We explore how the fear of imagination and discrimination affect the four main characters in each story. We apply the theory of social influence, discrimination, and coping mechanisms to show how Dylan, Elias, Bryna, and Corina deal with the effects of discrimination. In our creative work, we show that the four main characters succeed in being confident by focusing on the strength in themselves, finding help in trusted people, and not dwelling in the problem. Keywords: imagination, short stories, discrimination, dystopian, coming-of-age
