Abstract

The world has never been more connected than it is today and one key contributor to that fact is the growth of social networking sites. With the sum of about 4.2 billion active users, more than half of the human population, social networking sites have become a highway for information. From holding private conversations to appreciating others’ posts, social media users leave crumbs of information – one of which is a “Like”. ‘Like’ carries a plethora of information, and decoding it offers invaluable insight. This research aims to study the motives behind the act of ‘Liking’ an Instagram post. Following the data collection, an analysis using Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory will be carried out. With it, the researcher concluded that the motives behind ‘Liking’ an Instagram posts are to manage relationship, form an identity, state affinity, provide support, and prompt similar behavior. Keywords: Social media, Instagram, Instagram Like, Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), Motives

Abstract

Given the argument that an autobiography can be deconstructed like any other fictional texts, this article analyzes Mein Kampf (1939), an autobiography written by Adolf Hitler by treating the text as a fiction. Doing so reveals Adolf Hitler the character, who is very influenced by Adolf Hitler the writer. With the use of Otto F. Kernberg’s (2004) theory on pathological narcissistic personality disorder, this article attempts to find Adolf Hitler the character’s narcissistic personality disorder inside of Mein Kampf and the reasons for such personality disorder. The investigation reveals that the symptoms of the character’s narcissism can be found in the character’s self, emotional life, and social functioning which fit into Kernberg’s (2004) description of a narcissistic patient. On the other hand, the character’s authoritarian parental figure and innate talents are the reasons for the personality disorder. Keywords: autobiography; narcissism; adolf hitler; mein kampf

Abstract

Ambassador School is a Christian school established in 2011. This school offers 3 main programs which are Baby Class, Preschool, and Elementary. There are 2 schools that are similar to Ambassador School which are Bethany Christian School and CMC/SMI School because of 3 aspects: the location, price, service. The main problem of Ambassador School is related to low brand awareness, in which there are only a small number of people who know about this school and those who know are not able to explain what Ambassador School really is. The best solution of this problem is by increasing Ambassador School’s brand awareness by highlighting its strengths and uniqueness through a website. As the main concern is to increase brand awareness, a website will be the best solution since it does not only tell what a company sells, but also tells other information in detail that other promotional tools may not be able to do the same. There are 4 highlighted USPs: academics, Christian values, character education, and independence education. Highlighting all of this school’s strengths and uniqueness on a website will enable Ambassador School to not only increase the brand awareness, but also lead them to be seen as a more credible and professional school. Keywords: Brand Awareness, Promotional Tool, Website, Unique Selling Point

Abstract

Children literature is one way to deliver important moral values to children all over the world. Therefore, I made Elizabeth and The Great Forest (Series 1) and Elizabeth and The Strange Island (Series 2) as my creative work for the final project. In those two books, I want to bring up some issues which are; technology cannot replace direct interaction between people, fears are not supposed to be avoided but to be faced, and mother-daughter relationship is the most important relationship. The first book will focus on technology that damages a girl’s social life and a girl’s bravery in overcoming her own fears. The second book will focus on mother-daughter relationship with sub-theme: overcoming the characters’ own fears. Through the girl’s journeys, she will finally realize that technology cannot replace human interaction, people need to overcome their own fears, and mother-daughter relationship is the most important relationship ever in her life.
