Abstract

Sustainable energy is essential to reduce fossil fuel consumption. However, sustainable energy development still faces many problems that make its progress insignificant in the last decades. Alternative energy sources are needed to minimize fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum). Biomass and carbon fullerenes are a choice, but their innovation technologies are still restricted to pilot-scale production in the laboratory. Biomass is a climate-neutral energy source, but the CO2 emission of biomass combustion is inevitable, indicating the importance of innovative methods in processing biomass to energy. Different methods (thermochemical or biochemical) will produce different carbon footprints. Besides, biomass development also requires innovative small-scale technology to generate affordable energy for citizens and communities. Carbon fullerenes have been applied for energy applications, especially capacitor and lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. Up today, progress in Li-ion battery manufacturing moves at a slower pace and not much progress. The significant problems of Li-ion batteries are volume expansion, low electric conductivity, and inappropriate coulombic efficiency. Carbon-based fibers such as carbon nanofibers, CNT-based fibers, and graphene-based fibers have been used for capacitors, but there are still many obstacles, such as a lack of knowledge to solve capacitor self-discharging. Therefore, research and development of carbon-based materials are urgent energy innovation developments.

Abstract

Each region has different potential resources. These potential differences will also affect the different characteristics of the economy in each region. A typical mindset thinking Bali as a tourism center briefly provides an overview of the basic sectors found in each region, including Denpasar. Apart from the tourism potential of Denpasar, it is important to identify the basic and non-basic sectors. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is very likely that the existing economic structure will change. The identification of basic and non-basic sectors can be used as a reference in maintaining the economy so that other superior potentials can be maximized. This study aims to: (1) analyze basic and non-basic sectors in Denpasar City, (2) analyze the multiplier effect of basic sectors in Denpasar City, and (3) analyze basic sectors in Denpasar City in the middle of Covid-19 Pandemic Era. The results show: (1) There are nine basic sectors and three non-basic sectors of the twelve economic sectors which were analyzed based on Denpasar City GRDP data during 2016-2020. (2) The value of the multiplier effect of Denpasar City is 0.31. This means that the PB value for income is 0.31, so every increase in one unit of the basic sector will result in a 0.31-fold change in income for Denpasar City. (3) The most dominant basic sector of the Denpasar City in the Covid-19 pandemic era was the Information and Communications sector.

Abstract

One of the alternative ways to reduce the use of fossil fuels is the advancement of energy storage devices and energy conversion devices for renewable energy. The electrode is an essential part of its electrochemical performance in energy storage. The specific surface area of the electrode will affect the energy density, lifetime, charging, and discharging of the energy storage devices. Graphene has been widely used for energy storage, such as batteries and supercapacitors. Generally, graphene is synthesized from graphite as a carbon source which some researchers have reported. However, they are still fighting against simple synthesis methods, low-cost raw materials, eco-friendly co-product, and large-scale production. Therefore, advanced research is required to bring graphene from laboratory-scale projects to industry. One of the best solutions is biomass as a raw material to replace graphite in synthesizing graphene. In this review, some methods for synthesizing graphene from biomass will explain briefly, following with their strength and weakness.

Abstract

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) must be owned by every business and/or activity that has an important impact on the environment. The EIA study covers various aspects and the results are very well used as material for making decisions on the feasibility of a business plan and/or activity. By including EIA in the planning process of a business and/or activity, a broader and deeper view will be obtained (so that optimal decisions can be made from the various available alternatives), as well as to consider the possible consequences in order to prepare steps to overcome negative impacts. and develop possible positive impacts. This study aims to describe regulations in Indonesia related to EIA. The method used is qualitative-descriptive-library. The results obtained are that there are several regulations regarding environmental conservation in Indonesia, namely Law No. 32/2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management, PP No. 27/2012 concerning Environmental Permits, Permen LH No. 8/2006 concerning Guidelines for the Preparation of the EIA, and Permen LH No. 5/2012 concerning Types of Business and/or Activities Plans Required to Have an EIA.

Abstract

This study aims to know the change in mathematical beliefs of students grade VII from elementary school until now in Junior High School through students’ mathematical autobiography. The research design used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The data were obtained by using questionnaires and interviews. Instruments in this study are researchers as the main instrument, questionnaire about the identity of participants and 20 items of related statements about students' beliefs in mathematics, as well as interview guides as supporting instruments. The statement in the questionnaire is divided into 10 positive statements and 10 negative statements related to mathematics. The results of this study showed that firstly, almost all students, both male, and female, have a decline of beliefs in mathematics learning at the junior high school level. Second, the factors that affect the decreasing level of students' belief in mathematics during the junior high school are the drastic changes in the subject that becomes more difficult and more formulas to be memorized, and many lessons do not use concrete objects. Further, the teachers' attitudes who are also very different from when they are in elementary school which are more comfortable, their social conditions are changed because they live in dorms that have many activities (must be followed) that makes them busy so that they are difficult to find free time to learn outside the school hours. Third, students' beliefs about mathematics learning have shifted from positive to negative or vice versa.
