Abstract

Corn starch is one type of starch that has the potential to be developed as an excipient in the manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations. However, this corn starch still has shortcomings in its flowability and compactibility. Based on this, corn starch needs to be modified physically and chemically by using the crosslinking method, namely changing the hydroxy group (OH-) with a phosphate group with sodium tripolyphosphate as the crosslink agent and HPMC as the polymer. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and chemical characterization in the modification of corn starch-HPMC to various concentrations of sodium tripolyphosphate as a crosslinking agent. This study made 4 formulas with HPMC 10% and various concentrations of STPP (without treatment, 0.5%, 1%, and 2%). The modified starch will be characterized including FTIR test, SEM, swelling test, flow properties, and angle of repose. The results obtained in the FTIR test that the crosslink formed was at a concentration of 1% and 2% STPP which was indicated by the presence of an absorption band of the P-O-C group in the 1018cm-1 wave. The SEM test results showed that the addition of HPMC and STPP affected the physical form of starch with a rough and tight surface. In the swelling test, the modified starch increased with increasing STPP. In the flow properties test and the angle of repose, the modified starch has good flow properties and meets the requirements for a good angle of repose.

Abstract

Drug development can be accelerated and facilitated through the method of in silico by utilising a browser-based application. Universität Hamburg through the ZBH Centre for Bioinformatics has been giving full access to its applications until now. One of them is JAMDA. Forty-five flavonoids have been used as case studies of ligand binding affinity screening for five SARS-CoV-2 proteases. The 3D conformations of ligands and proteins were downloaded from the PubChem and RCSB databases, respectively. OpenBabel was used to combine multiple ligands to speed up the computation. It took at least 7.5 hours to complete the whole process using a single browser tab. Molecules of GC376 non-sulphonate, R8H, and 6”-O-acetylastragalin have top best scores than all investigated ligands. Their average scores ratio is 1.239, 1.234 and 1.188 respectively. PLIP predictions indicate that water molecules are actively involved in protein ligand interactions for four crystals of native and 6”-O-acetylstragalin on several proteins. This browser-based application is fast and easy to use but it is not recommended to use for novel compounds due to data privacy which is not guaranteed by the owner.

Abstract

Sinusitis is an inflammatory disease of the paranasal sinus cavities that can be caused by infection, allergies, or autoimmune problems, and is a disease that is often found in everyday medical practice and is even considered one of the most common causes of health problems in the world. Epidemiologically, the maxillary sinuses are most commonly affected, then the ethmoidal, frontal, and sphenoidal which are included in the acute sinusitis section. The purpose of this literature review is to collect and synthesize articles describing the maxillary sinus as sinusitis with the highest incidence and to find out the underlying risk factors. This literature review method is done by searching for references in databases and search engines with keywords and then synthesizing the results in the form of a narrative. The results we get can be concluded that the maxillary sinus is the most frequently infected paranasal sinus due to various factors such as the size of the paranasal sinus being the largest, the location of the ostium being higher than the base, the ostium located in the meatus medius, around the hiatus semilunaris which is narrow so it gets easily blocked, and The maxillary sinus is the base of the tooth root (alveolar process) so that dental infection can cause odontogenic maxillary sinusitis in adulthood.

Abstract

Fermentation is a process of chemical changes in organic substrates through enzymes obtained by microorganisms which is an anaerobic deassimilation of organic compounds and is caused by the activity of microorganisms. This study aims to determine the alcohol content in different formulations of fermipan addition used in orange and watermelon liquids. The research design method used in this study is a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors. The first factor is the type of substrate (S): watermelon (S1) and orange (S2), while the second factor is the concentration of yeast/Fermipan: 0% (R1), 1% (R2), 2% (R3). Data analysis was done descriptively quantitative and descriptive qualitative. The results showed that alcohol content with orange substrate was higher than watermelon. Other alcohol fermentation activities such as pH, CO2 and H2O also corroborate the data that the orange substrate is more active than the watermelon substrate. More yeast concentration (up to 2%) resulted in higher alcohol content and alcoholic fermentation activity.
