Abstract

Although school choice and educational branding have been widely examined, research that specifically investigates how school reputation, digital branding, teacher quality, flagship programs, and social verification interact in millennial parents’ decision-making processes remains relatively limited. This study aimed to explore in depth the mechanisms underlying millennial parents’ considerations when choosing schools for their children by focusing on six key factors: school reputation as an initial filter, digital branding as the shaper of primary perceptions, teacher quality as the basis for substantive evaluation, flagship programs as institutional differentiators, the physical environment as tangible verification, and word of mouth as the final validation. The study employed a qualitative case study design involving 12 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, supporting observations, and a review of digital documentation, and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that millennial parents’ decisions are shaped by the interaction between symbolic image, digital representations, and empirically verified evidence at the interpersonal level, whereby reputation and digital branding function as triggers of initial perceptions, while teacher quality, flagship programs, and the school environment serve as the ultimate determinants of trust. These results contribute to the development of educational brand equity theory by adding the dimension of digital credibility and provide methodological enrichment by demonstrating the importance of qualitative approaches for understanding the motives and processes underpinning educational decision-making. Practically, the study underscores the need for consistency between digital branding and schools’ actual practices, the strengthening of teachers’ capacity as the primary representatives of the brand, and the optimization of testimonial-based communication strategies. Future research is recommended to test this model quantitatively and to extend its application to different demographic contexts.

Abstract

Although the use of digital media in primary school instruction has received considerable attention in previous studies, research that specifically examines the integration of flipbooks with Problem Based Learning (PBL) to improve the ability to write factual and opinion sentences remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PBL-based flipbook teaching materials in improving the writing skills of sixth-grade students, particularly in distinguishing between facts and opinions. A mixed-methods approach was employed using a one-group pretest–posttest design combined with qualitative observations and interviews, involving 22 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using writing tests, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and interview protocols, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The findings show that the integration of flipbooks and PBL increased student engagement, strengthened group collaboration, and improved individual learning outcomes, although variation in achievement remained. These results contribute to the development of digital constructivist learning theory and broaden understanding of the use of interactive media in Indonesian language instruction. The study concludes that interactive flipbooks play an important role in supporting elementary school students’ analytical writing skills and recommends that teachers adopt digital PBL-based teaching materials to strengthen literacy competencies. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions to digital pedagogy and practical recommendations for educators to modernize learning resources, while also opening opportunities for further exploration of adaptive digital media and differentiated instruction in the teaching of writing.

Abstract

Dysgraphia, as a specific writing disorder, constitutes a significant barrier to narrative writing instruction among upper-grade elementary school students. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of dysgraphia, its impact on narrative writing ability, and effective instructional strategies based on a synthesis of recent literature. A systematic literature review method was employed by analyzing 15 SINTA-indexed articles published between 2020 and 2025. The findings reveal that dysgraphia has multidimensional characteristics covering physical–motor aspects (difficulties with fine motor coordination, illegible handwriting), linguistic aspects (systematic spelling errors, limited vocabulary), and cognitive aspects (limited working memory capacity, poor organization of ideas. The impact of dysgraphia on narrative writing ability is reflected in low technical quality of writing, incoherent narrative structure, and psychological consequences such as anxiety and avoidance of writing activities. Effective instructional strategies identified in the reviewed studies include multisensory approaches, curriculum modification through product differentiation, the use of assistive technology, and intensive collaboration among teachers, parents, and specialists. The study concludes that comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of dysgraphia and the implementation of integrated inclusive instructional strategies have the potential to significantly improve students’ narrative writing ability, while also underscoring the urgency of developing identification and intervention models for dysgraphia that are contextually aligned with instructional needs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Although madrasah reform has received attention in various previous studies, research that specifically examines the implementation of institutional values and the curriculum of Madrasah Nizhamiyah in contemporary madrasah contexts remains limited. This study aimed to explore the experiences of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in applying institutional values and Nizhamiyah curriculum principles in contemporary Indonesian madrasahs. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological case study design was employed, involving 14 PAI teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and curriculum documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and implementation patterns. The findings indicate that institutional values serve as the primary foundation of teaching practice, shaping students’ discipline, integrity, and collective responsibility. The integration of religious and general curricula is carried out holistically, although variations in implementation emerge due to differences in teacher creativity and limitations in formal guidelines. The principles of Madrasah Nizhamiyah are applied implicitly through the teacher’s role as a scholarly and moral figure, a character mentor, and a developer of students’ intellectual competencies. These findings contribute to the development of contemporary Islamic education theory and broaden understanding of the implementation of institutional values and Nizhamiyah principles in modern madrasah practice. The study concludes that the internalization of institutional values and the strengthening of the teacher’s role as a scholarly–moral figure are crucial for the success of madrasah reform, with theoretical implications for enriching the literature on contemporary Islamic education and practical implications for madrasahs and policymakers to reinforce operational guidelines, teacher training, and curriculum integration, while also opening avenues for further exploration of the application of Nizhamiyah principles in cross-disciplinary and long-term learning.

Abstract

Although higher education branding strategies have been widely examined in previous studies, research that specifically discusses the role of branding in shaping the academic identity and digital image of Islamic Religious Education study programs remains relatively limited. This study aimed to explore the branding strategies of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program in constructing its academic identity and strengthening the digital image of the university. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving program leaders, lecturers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of academic activities and the study program’s digital media, and analysis of institutional documents, then analyzed using thematic analysis to identify emerging patterns and key themes. The findings show that the academic identity of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program is constructed through the integration of Islamic values with academic and professional competencies, as reflected in the curriculum, the implementation of the tridharma of higher education, and institutional narratives on digital media. Digital media, particularly the website and social media, play a strategic role in communicating academic identity and building institutional image, although challenges remain in maintaining message consistency and managing content. These findings underscore the importance of a clear academic identity, the active involvement of internal actors, and integrated digital branding management in enhancing the competitiveness and image of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program, while also offering theoretical contributions to the study of value-based higher education branding and practical implications for study program managers in designing sustainable branding strategies.

Abstract

Although parental involvement in children’s learning has been widely examined in previous studies, research that specifically addresses home-based early reading assistance strategies and the challenges encountered remains limited. This study aims to describe the role of parents, identify assistance strategies, and analyze the challenges in children’s early reading learning at home. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 15 parents of children aged 5–6 years who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that parents served as facilitators, companions, and motivators in the early reading learning process. Assistance strategies were implemented gradually, starting from letter recognition to reading simple words, by utilizing media such as picture books and letter cards. The challenges encountered included children’s low concentration, the emergence of boredom, and parents’ limited time. In addition, the quality of interaction between parents and children was found to have a greater influence than the intensity of assistance. These findings contribute to the development of the concept of family-based early childhood literacy and emphasize the importance of effective parental involvement in supporting children’s early reading skills.

Abstract

Although adolescent participation in community-based religious activities has received attention in various previous studies, research that specifically discusses the causes of low participation as a direct problem of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the context of rural Java remains limited. This study aims to analyze the factors causing low adolescent participation in religious activities and to explain how these factors become fundamental problems for PAI in Janti Jogoroto Village, Jombang. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, involving 12 informants consisting of adolescents, parents, and religious figures selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and verification. The results showed that low adolescent participation was caused by a combination of internal factors, such as low interest, laziness, lack of self-confidence, shyness, and fatigue due to school or work, as well as external factors, such as strong peer influence, social media distractions, monotonous activities, and limited access to facilities. These factors become problems for PAI because they indicate a gap between cognitive understanding and religious practice, weak internalization of Islamic values, and the incompatibility of conventional PAI approaches with the developmental characteristics of adolescents. These findings contribute to the development of nonformal PAI studies by integrating Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior and Durkheim’s functionalism, and expand understanding of the role of socio-digital factors in mediating religious education outcomes in rural communities. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that low adolescent participation plays an important role in weakening the sustainability of communal religious traditions, so parents, religious figures, PAI teachers, village governments, and religious institutions need to design mentoring strategies that are more collaborative, empowering for adolescents, and adaptive to digital development.

Abstract

Stimulation of early childhood cognitive development requires learning activities that are engaging, contextual, and aligned with children’s developmental characteristics. One medium that can be used is traditional gamelan learning as a form of local cultural integration in early childhood education. This study aimed to describe the implementation of traditional gamelan learning and its contribution to children’s cognitive development at KB Dewi Sartika Pacitan. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with research subjects consisting of 6 children and 1 gamelan extracurricular teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that traditional gamelan learning had a positive impact on children’s cognitive development, particularly in the aspects of concentration, memory, the ability to follow instructions, recognition of musical instrument sounds, the ability to distinguish the shapes of musical instruments, and logical thinking through rhythm and turn-taking activities. The observation results showed that 33% of the children developed very well, 33% developed as expected, 17% were beginning to develop, and 17% had not yet developed optimally. The obstacles identified included limited musical instruments and differences in children’s ability to follow rhythm. Thus, traditional gamelan learning is effective as a medium for stimulating early childhood cognitive development as well as a means of preserving local culture in the context of early childhood education learning.

Abstract

The development of interactive learning media is necessary to increase students’ interest and understanding in the subject of Islamic Cultural History (SKI), particularly through the use of educational game-based technology. This study aimed to develop interactive learning media based on the Wordwall game to increase students’ interest and understanding in the SKI subject at MTs Al-Asy’ariyah Banjarsari. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product developed was an SKIPlay educational game containing interactive quizzes and a “balloon pop” game aligned with the learning outcomes of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The validation results showed that the developed media met the feasibility criteria, with a media expert assessment score of 92.5% in the highly valid category and a material expert assessment score of 100% in the highly valid category. A limited trial involving 28 eighth-grade students showed a student response score of 86.21%, indicating that the Wordwall media was considered engaging, easy to use, and helpful in understanding SKI material. The paired sample t-test obtained a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, indicating a significant improvement after the use of the media. In addition, the N-Gain score of 75.26% was in the moderately effective category. These findings confirm that the Wordwall media based on the SKIPlay educational game is feasible and moderately effective for increasing students’ learning interest and understanding in SKI learning.

Abstract

The limited number of studies on the implementation of cooperative learning models integrated with digital media indicates the need for learning innovations that can improve students’ conceptual understanding in IPAS learning in elementary schools. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) cooperative learning model assisted by the Qreatif.id application on students’ understanding of the food chain concept. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving 32 students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using test instruments in the form of pretests and posttests, and were then analyzed through the N-Gain test and t-test with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed a significant increase in students’ conceptual understanding, as indicated by higher posttest and N-Gain scores in the experimental class than in the control class. This finding reinforces the relevance of constructivist theory in learning, particularly through students’ active involvement in connecting, organizing, reflecting on, and extending the concepts learned. Thus, the CORE cooperative learning model assisted by the Qreatif.id application plays an important role in improving elementary school students’ understanding of the food chain concept. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the development of constructivist-based learning models and practical recommendations for teachers to utilize interactive digital media in the IPAS learning process.
