Abstract

Although the role of film media in shaping public attention has received attention in various previous studies, research that specifically discusses the function of film as agenda setting in representing issues of body gender identity remains limited. This study aims to analyze agenda setting in the film Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku in shaping public attention and perceptions of issues of body gender identity. This study used a qualitative approach with a content analysis design, with the research object being the film Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku, which was selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation and documentation, then analyzed using content analysis based on agenda-setting indicators, namely visibility, audience silence, and valence. The results showed that this film had a high level of visibility toward issues of body gender identity through the repetition of visual symbols, narrative, and the conflict of the main character. In addition, audience silence was found, marked by the dominance of the main character’s personal perspective compared with a broader social perspective. Meanwhile, the valence in the film tended to be empathetic toward the main character’s experiences. These findings contribute to the development of agenda-setting theory in the context of film media and expand understanding of the role of film as a medium that shapes public perceptions. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of narrative and visual structures in shaping the media agenda, while also showing the need for filmmakers to consider the social impact of representing issues of body gender identity.

Abstract

Although da‘wah strategies in inmate rehabilitation have received attention in various studies, research that specifically discusses the role of correctional inmates as da‘wah actors in increasing religious awareness in correctional institutions remains limited. This study aims to analyze the da‘wah strategy carried out by Adenan bin Mohamad Aris in guiding inmates to increase religious awareness at the Class IIA Bukittinggi Correctional Facility and to identify the obstacles and supporting factors in its implementation. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research participants consisted of correctional inmates and correctional facility officers selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the da‘wah strategy implemented was structured, contextual, and adaptive to the psychological conditions and social backgrounds of the inmates. The dominant da‘wah method used was bil hikmah, an approach that emphasizes wisdom, persuasion, and empathy. The rehabilitation activities included Qur’an teaching, prayer guidance, and the delivery of basic religious materials. The findings also showed an increase in religious awareness, reflected in improved religious knowledge, worship practices, and behavioral change, although it was not yet fully permanent. The conclusion of this study confirms that contextual da‘wah strategies based on the bil hikmah approach play an important role in inmate rehabilitation. Its practical implication is that correctional institutions need to design religious rehabilitation programs that are more structured, empathetic, and sustainable to support behavioral change among correctional inmates.

Abstract

Although verbal violence has been widely studied from psychological and communication perspectives, studies that specifically discuss its conceptualization in the Qur’an through thematic exegesis of the terms sukhriyah, lamz, and humazah remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the semantic nuances of these three terms, identify the hierarchy of Divine sanctions against verbal violence, and formulate their relevance to contemporary communication ethics. This study used a qualitative approach with the thematic exegesis method (tafsīr maudhū‘ī) integrated with Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic analysis. Data were obtained through a literature review of primary sources in the form of the Qur’an and classical and modern exegetical works, supported by relevant secondary literature. The results showed that sukhriyah, lamz, and humazah represent gradations of verbal violence, ranging from superiority-based mockery and personal reproach to harsh verbal abuse. The Qur’an prohibits such behavior through a progressive and educational hierarchy of sanctions, including moral condemnation, negative social labeling as ẓālimūn, the eschatological threat of the Hellfire of Ḥuṭamah, and the door of repentance as a path to rehabilitation. These findings contribute to the development of Qur’anic communication ethics theory by offering a gradational framework of verbal violence that goes beyond the principle of positive communication alone. Thus, the Qur’anic approach provides a preventive-rehabilitative model relevant to addressing contemporary phenomena such as cyberbullying and hate speech. The implications of this study include enriching the literature on thematic exegesis and providing practical guidance for educators, parents, and digital policymakers in building a civilized communication culture based on Qur’anic values.

Abstract

Studies on Qur’an translation are not only concerned with the transfer of lexical meaning but also with the preservation of rhetorical functions that shape the aesthetic and semantic power of the source text. This study aimed to identify verses in Juz ‘Amma that contain al-jinās, analyze their rhetorical functions in the Arabic text, and evaluate their influence on semantic accuracy in Indonesian translations of the Qur’an. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis and critical discourse analysis methods. The research data consisted of Qur’anic verses in Juz ‘Amma and three Indonesian translation versions, namely the Translation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (2019), Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab, and Al-Muntakhab by the Indonesian Ulema Council. The results showed that the occurrence of al-jinās was uneven and dominated by the form of jinās nāqiṣ, which often intersected with other rhetorical devices such as saj‘ and takrār. This pattern indicates that the aesthetic construction of short surahs relies more on sound harmony and rhythm than on identical lexical similarity. In translation, the basic meaning is generally maintained; however, the rhetorical function of al-jinās cannot always be preserved consistently because of phonological differences between Arabic and Indonesian. As a result, aesthetic and stylistic effects tend to be reduced, so that some meaning relations originally reinforced by sound patterns in the source text are not fully conveyed. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the close relationship between sound structure and meaning in the Qur’an and shows that al-jinās is a stylistic element that is difficult to preserve fully in the translation process. These findings contribute to the development of Qur’an translation studies, particularly in understanding the challenges of transferring rhetorical elements from Arabic into Indonesian.

Abstract

Although communication strategies for promoting the vitality of mushallas have received attention in several previous studies, research specifically examining their application in mushallas with low levels of congregational participation remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the communication strategies implemented by the administrators of Mushalla Nurul Huda Jorong Guguak Nagari Sungai Beringin in promoting the vitality of the mushalla and to identify the challenges encountered. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research informants consisted of mushalla administrators and the mushalla imam, who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using interactive analysis techniques. The results showed that the communication strategies implemented included audience identification, message formulation, method determination, and the use of communication media. However, these strategies remained conventional and had not optimally utilized digital technology. The main challenges identified included internal factors, namely limited human resources and funding, as well as external factors, namely community members’ busy schedules and the low utilization of technology. These findings contribute to the development of studies on communication strategies in the context of community-based da'wah and broaden understanding of communication dynamics in promoting the vitality of mushallas. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of communication innovation and the use of technology to increase congregational participation, while also recommending that mushalla administrators develop more adaptive communication strategies. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the literature on da'wah communication and practical implications for mushalla management at the local level, particularly in strengthening congregational participation through contextual and responsive communication approaches.

Abstract

Although the relationship between religion and the environment has been widely studied, research specifically discussing the integration of ecotheology into Islamic religious outreach practices and the role of religious outreach officers as agents of sustainable da'wah at the community level remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the integration of ecotheological values into Islamic religious outreach and to examine the role of religious outreach officers as agents of sustainable da'wah in the KUA Pringkuku area. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 15 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that ecotheological values had begun to be integrated into outreach materials, although they were not yet systematic and still depended on the initiative of religious outreach officers. The outreach method was still dominated by lectures but had begun to develop toward a more dialogical and contextual approach. The role of religious outreach officers as agents of sustainable da'wah was evident in efforts to encourage environmental awareness among the community, although its implementation was not yet consistent. Community responses tended to be positive but still showed variation in the understanding and application of ecological values. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of systematically integrating ecotheology into Islamic religious outreach and the need to develop more participatory and sustainable da'wah strategies. These findings contribute to the development of Islamic ecotheology and transformative da'wah studies, while also providing practical implications for KUA and religious outreach officers in designing outreach programs that are responsive to environmental issues at the local level.

Abstract

Although the integration of technology in education has developed rapidly, the use of technology as a learning medium for Grade X Informatics at SMAN 3 Padang Panjang still needs to be optimized because the learning process remains dominated by conventional methods that affect students’ low motivation. This study aimed to produce learning media using Scratch for the Grade X Informatics subject that met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The research subjects involved 35 Grade X students of SMAN 3 Padang Panjang in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed using Aiken’s V formula for validity, Moment Kappa for practicality, and N-Gain Score for effectiveness. The results showed that the Scratch-based learning media was declared highly feasible, with an average validity score of 0.96 in the valid criterion. The product practicality level obtained a score of 0.92 in the very high category based on educator assessment, while the effectiveness test showed a G-Score of 0.84, which was included in the high effectiveness category. These findings indicate that Scratch-based learning media contributes to transforming abstract material into interactive visuals that support students’ active engagement. The conclusion of this study affirms that the use of game-based learning elements in Scratch is effective as an alternative digital teaching material in Grade X Informatics learning. The practical implication of this study is the availability of digital learning media that can be operated offline to support the optimization of school laboratory facilities and the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka.

Abstract

The Qur’an has distinctive linguistic and rhetorical characteristics through the use of ijaz and ithnab as techniques for conveying divine messages. Ijaz is a rhetorical style that conveys broad and profound meaning through concise and compact expressions, whereas ithnab is an expanded form of expression used to clarify, emphasize, and strengthen meaning. This study aims to examine the definition, types, and rhetorical functions of ijaz and ithnab in the Qur’an as part of balaghah studies. This study used a textual analysis method with linguistic and rhetorical approaches focusing on language structure, diction, and style in Qur’anic verses. The results showed that ijaz played an important role in conveying theological concepts and spiritual values concisely yet comprehensively, whereas ithnab functioned to elaborate and emphasize meaning through the deliberate expansion of expression. These two techniques complement each other in constructing the richness of meaning, linguistic beauty, and depth of the Qur’anic message. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that ijaz and ithnab represent the miraculous nature of the Qur’an from linguistic and rhetorical perspectives. The implications of this study provide a contribution to strengthening balaghah studies and understanding the rhetorical strategies of the Qur’an in conveying theological and spiritual messages.

Abstract

Students’ low consistency in morals in daily life, despite having received Islamic Religious Education (PAI) instruction, indicates the need for a more applicable and sustainable character-building strategy. This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic micro-habits in PAI learning to improve students’ moral consistency at MA Al-Amin. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the integration of Islamic micro-habits was carried out through routine habituation, teacher role modeling, reinforcement, and continuous supervision. This strategy was proven to improve students’ discipline, responsibility, and respectful attitudes. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that Islamic micro-habits are effective in sustainably shaping students’ moral consistency. The implications of this study indicate that small habits practiced consistently can be applied as a practical approach to strengthening character education in schools.

Abstract

Although mind mapping has received attention in several previous studies, research that specifically discusses its integration into Arabic language learning in the pesantren environment remains limited. Arabic language proficiency is one of the main characteristics of santri, but learning processes that are still dominated by conventional methods tend to make it difficult for santri to understand, organize, and connect material concepts systematically. This study aims to examine the integration of mind mapping in Arabic language learning as a visual-innovative approach at Pondok Pesantren Rahmatul Umam. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving fifteen santri, two Arabic language teachers, and one kitab class homeroom teacher selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the integration of mind mapping helped santri map the structure of Arabic language material, connect concepts, improve memory, and encourage active engagement in learning. Thus, this study contributes to the development of Arabic language learning methods that are more systematic, effective, and oriented toward improving santri’s conceptual understanding in the pesantren environment.
