Abstract

Field observations reveal that students in the Electrical Engineering program at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) struggle to master the standard mathematical content required, impacting their ability to comprehend advanced course materials. The current applied mathematics curriculum does not sufficiently support students in independently discovering concepts essential for engineering competencies. This study aims to establish a standardized competency design for applied mathematics that aligns with the mathematical requirements of the electrical engineering curriculum, thereby simplifying the learning of advanced courses. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research gathers insights from alums, students, and expert lecturers through interviews. The findings identify seven essential mathematical topics that form the foundation of cognitive knowledge. These fundamental skills are crucial in achieving competencies that significantly contributing to success in advanced courses within the UNP Electrical Engineering program. The seven core topics include calculus, geometric and trigonometric functions, mathematical modeling and logic, discrete mathematics, integrals and differential equations, complex variables, and linear algebra

Abstract

Augmented reality (A.R.) represents cutting-edge technology bridging digital information with the real world. In the context of learning, particularly concerning augmented reality, researchers, educators, and practitioners face the imperative of adapting to the challenges posed by this digital era. This systematic literature review aims to comprehensively explore and contrast multiple articles indexed in the Scopus Database, focusing on the intersection of mathematics education and Augmented Reality. The analysis underscores that A.R. presents a promising tool for heightening engagement and comprehension of mathematical concepts, particularly emphasized in elementary education and centered around matrices/geometry topics. The outcomes carry substantial implications for educators, advocating for the incorporation of A.R. as an innovative teaching method in mathematics and policymakers, signaling the necessity to foster the integration of A.R. technology in educational settings. Furthermore, this study's implications offer valuable direction for future research endeavors, suggesting the need for a more comprehensive exploration of specific facets of using A.R. in mathematics education.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the difficulty of learning mathematics in fraction material in class V of elementary school. This research is qualitative research with a case study type. Data was collected by conducting interviews and giving fraction test questions to students. The results of this research show that there are difficulties faced by students in working on the mathematics problems that have been given, namely (1) difficulty understanding the concept of fractions and difficulties; (2) difficulty in calculating; (3) students are still not careful in calculating. The factors that influence the occurrence of mathematics learning difficulties consist of internal factors, such as students' lack of motivation to learn mathematics, and external factors, namely the lack of teacher activity in learning. This can be a consideration for mathematics teachers to create more creative and fun learning in mathematics learning, especially in elementary school fraction material.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ethnomathematics exploration of traditional herbal concoction tools at the Sumenep Madura Palace. Traditional herbal medicine is a cultural heritage originating from Madura, especially from the nobility in the Sumenep Palace. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic research. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The results showed that in the process of making traditional herbal medicine, a mathematical concept was found, namely the concept of value comparison. Meanwhile, the money instruments used to concoct herbal medicine, namely pipisan, gandik, botekan and cengkelek, found the concept of geometry, sequence patterns and arithmetic series.

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' ability to understand mathematical concepts, which is still relatively low. This research aims to determine the positive and significant influence of the Problem-Based Learning learning model on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research method is quantitative research with a pre-experimental design research type with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used a saturated sampling technique with a sample of 21 students. The instruments used were concept understanding ability tests and observation sheets on implementing teacher learning and student activities. The research results show that students' understanding of mathematical concepts using the Problem-Based Learning learning model has increased significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the correlation between temperature, humidity, and Rainfall at the Geophysics Station of Padang Panjang from 2020 to 2023. Monthly data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) was used to evaluate the relationship between these meteorological variables. Statistical analysis, including correlation and multiple linear regression, was conducted using SPSS version 22. The results show a significant negative correlation between Rainfall and temperature, indicating that temperature tends to decrease as rainfall increases. In contrast, a positive correlation between Rainfall and humidity suggests that higher humidity levels are associated with increased Rainfall. However, the regression analysis reveals that temperature and moisture explain only 16.76% of the variation in Rainfall, indicating the potential influence of other factors not included in the model.
