Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that some students still commit violations of language politeness. The purpose of this study is to describe the principles of language politeness in the conversations of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Ulunoyo. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The data source in this study is derived from the transcription of student conversations. The data collection technique used in this research is audio recording. The findings of this study indicate that student conversations contain violations of the principles of language politeness, namely: (1) the maxim of wisdom; (2) the maxim of generosity; (3) the maxim of appreciation; (4) the maxim of appreciation; (5) the maxim of agreement; (6) the maxim of sympathy. It can be concluded that students more frequently violate the maxim of appreciation and are still unable to speak politely. This suggests that politeness in speech determines how one's relationship is in communicating with others as interlocutors or speaking partners. Therefore, it is necessary to apply polite language to maintain harmony in communication. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that students pay attention to polite language usage, especially in eighth grade at SMP Negeri 5 Ulunoyo. For teachers, it is suggested to apply the principles of language politeness to support successful communication and optimal teaching and learning interactions. For future researchers, more research on language politeness is needed considering its great importance for students' lives.

Abstract

Problem in this research is the violation of the principle of cooperation in student conversations in Indonesian language learning. This research was motivated by the researcher's curiosity about the use of the principle of cooperation. This research aims to describe violations of the principle of cooperation in conversation in Indonesian language learning for class VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Dharma Caraka for the 2023/2024 academic year. The type of research used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The data collection technique used by researchers is documentation techniques. The data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. In this research, the data validity checking technique used was time triangulation. The results of this research are that in the conversation on the maxim of quantity there are 2 violations, in the conversation on the maxim of quality there are 2 violations, then in the conversation on the maxim of relevance there are 2 violations, on the maxim of implementation there are 2 violations, on the double maxim of quantity-relevance there is 1 violation, on the double maxim of implementation-quantity there are violations in student conversations in Indonesian language learning. among others; Violations in this conversation occur because students still do not understand the use of the principle of cooperation. Suggestions for researchers For other prospective researchers who will conduct further research regarding violations of the principle of cooperation in conversation in Indonesian language learning, it is recommended to conduct deeper, more thorough and more detailed research regarding violations of the principle of cooperation in conversation in Indonesian language learning regarding maxims Quantity, quality, relevance and implementation are recommended for future researchers who can use this research as reference material for conducting subsequent research.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on the local wisdom of Hombo Batu in improving students’ physics problem-solving abilities at SMA Negeri 1 Fanayama. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. The participants consisted of tenth-grade students who were divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class received instruction using the Problem Based Learning model integrated with the cultural context of Hombo Batu, while the control class was taught using conventional learning methods. Data were collected through a physics problem-solving test administered before and after the learning process. The results showed that students in the experimental class experienced a significant improvement in their problem-solving abilities compared to those in the control class. The normalized gain score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, indicating that the implementation of the PBL model provided a more effective learning experience. In addition, integrating the Hombo Batu cultural context helped students understand physics concepts more meaningfully because the learning materials were related to real-life cultural practices familiar to the students. Therefore, the integration of Problem Based Learning with local wisdom can create contextual and meaningful physics learning while also fostering students’ appreciation of local cultural heritage.

Abstract

Media pembelajaran powerpoint belum digunakan khususnya pada mata pelajaran biologi dan hasil belajar siswa pada sistem pencernaan manusia masih rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh media powerpoint terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi sistem pencernaan manusia di kelas XI SMA Swasta Bina Kasih. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMA Swasta Bina Kasih. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah siswa XI-A sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas XI-B sebagai kelas eksperimen SMA Swasta Bina Kasih. Penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas dan uji hipotesis dengan menggunakan aplikasi SPSS (Statistical product and service solution). Hasil penelitian ketahui nilai thitung 8.378654 > ttabel 1.27422. Nilai sig.(2-tailed) atau nilai signifikaan equal variances assumed/varians yang sama diasumsikan dengan uji dua sisi adalah sebesar 0,049 < 0,05 sedangkan nilai sig.(2-tailed) atau nilai signifikaan equal variances assumed (varians yang tidak sama diasumsikan) dengan uji dua sisi adalah sebesar 0,012 < 0,05. Kesimpulan penggunaan media powerpoint berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas XI SMA Swasta Bina Kasih, dimana kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen dapat dikatakan lebih banyak siswa yang tuntas belajar dengan menggunakan media powerpoint dibandingkan dengan dengan hasil belajar siswa menggunakan model pembelajaran konvesional. Saran, diharapkan guru menggunakan media powerpoint dalam kegiatan pembelajaran karena membuat siswa lebih fokus dan lebih berpikir kritis dalam belajar. Bagi siswa, hendaknya menunjukkan minat belajar yang lebih baik terutama dalam menyelsaikan masalah yang diberika oleh guru. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya hendaknya melaksankan penelitian ini dengan cakupan yang lebih luas lagi.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the researcher's desire to identify the connotative meaning in the poetry collection "My Story" by Mieke Nurhayati. The aim of this research is to describe the positive and negative connotative meanings contained in the poetry collection "My Story" by Mieke Nurhayati. The approach used in this research is a qualitative research approach with a descriptive research type. The data source in this research is the poem "My Story" by Mieke Nurhayati. Based on the results of the analysis, data presentation, and research findings regarding the connotative meanings used in the poetry collection "My Story" by Mieke Nurhayati, of the 20 selected poems, a total of 54 positive connotative meanings were found, namely: The hope of an educator, totaling 1. Thank you, my teacher. , totaling 1. Reality of life, totaling 2. Hum of Flowers, totaling 5. Three stems of roses, totaling 2. Conscience Cycle, totaling 4. Divine Gifts, totaling 2. Anxiety, totaling 4. Identity, totaling 5. Your charm, totaling totaling 4. Will not change, totaling 2. My suffering, totaling 2. Breath of Your Love, totaling 4. Despair, totaling 2. My complaints, totaling 3. If, totaling 3. Chasing shadows, totaling 5. Desires in despair, totaling 3. Meanwhile, the negative connotative meaning consists of 2 poems and 2 quotations, namely: Illusory Memories, totaling 1 and Desires in Hope totaling 1. Suggestions that can be given by researchers, especially for Indonesian language and literature teachers, through the collection of poems "My Story" by Mieke Nurhayati, can be used as as literary learning material to improve students' abilities in analyzing and appreciating literary works

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate idioms in the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The purpose of this study is to determine the types of idioms and describe the meaning of idioms contained in the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This research is a qualitative research. The researcher collected and classified the data into seven types of idioms suggested by O'Dell & McCarthy and after obtaining the data, the researcher analyzed the data by applying data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The results of this study show that there are various kinds of idioms found in the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle based on the type of idiom, namely 5 similes, 3 binomials, 5 proverbs, 3 euphemisms, 3 clichés, 8 fixed statements, and 4 other languages. Each idiom has its own meaning and is interpreted based on the context in which it is used. Idioms are obviously most prevalent in movies and really help people to enrich their vocabulary and broaden their understanding of all expressions in English. The researcher suggests students to read this thesis in order to know the context of idioms and also interpret the meaning of idioms. In addition, the researcher also suggests to other researchers to complete further research better and provide more explanations and can also use this research as their reference.

Abstract

Penelitian ini di latar belakangi oleh guru mata Pelajaran khususnya biologi tidak menggunakan metode pembelajaran Learning Start With a Question (LSQ) dan mengakibatkansiswa kurang interaktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode Learning Start Witha Question terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Mandrehe. Jenis penelitian adalah kuantitatif dengan metode quasi eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas XI MIPA yang berjumlah 49 orang, sedangkan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas XI MIPA 1 yang berjumlah 20 orang dan kelas XI MIPA 2 yang berjumlah 29 orang. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah berupa tes awal dan tes akhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan menggunakan rumus analisis regresi linear sederhana sehingga memperoleh nilai dari hasil perhitungan di atas diketahui bahwa Fhitung = 88,57 lebih besar dari Ftabel pada taraf 5% (0,386) Dengan demikian hipotesis diterima karena Fhitung > Ftabel, pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil analisis pengolahan data nilai koefisien determinasi sebesar 89%. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Learning Start With a Question terhadap hasil belajar siswa SMA Negeri 1 Mandrehe, terlihat rata-rata hasil belajar siswa pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Sebelum menggunakan model pembelajaran Learning Startwith A Question skor rata-rata hasil observasi aktivitas belajar Biologi siswa yakni hanya sebesar 79.82%. Setelah menggunakan Learning Startwith A Question (Postest, menunjukkan peningkatan aktivitas hasil belajar siswa dengan skor rata-rata 87,5%. Saran yang diajukan peneliti adalah 1) Guru hendaknya dapat menggunakan model learning startwith a question sebagai alternatif dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Permasalahan penelitian ini adalah pemanfaatan tanaman herbal dalam mengobati penyakit. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah 1) untuk mendeskripsikan cara meracik tanaman kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) sebagai obat herbal di Desa Hilizoroilawa. 2). Untuk Mendeskripsikan tanggapan masyarakat Desa Hilizoroilawa tentang pemanfaatan tanaman kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) sebagai obat herbal. penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jumlah informan sebanyak 5 (lima) orang. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, dokumen dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data menggunakan metode analisis data yang terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan penelitian terdapat beberapa cara meracik tanaman kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) sebagai obat herbal, jenis-jenis penyakit yang bisa disembuhkan tanaman kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) dan tanggapan masyarakat tentang pemanfaatan tanaman kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) sebagai tanaman obat herbal. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini terdapat 2 cara meracik yaitu dengan cara merebus dan dengan cara mengeringkan, adapun khasiat tanaman kumis kucing yang dapat menyembuhkan berbagai jenis penyakit yaitu menyembuhkan reumatik, ginjal, nyeri pinggang, alergi pada kulit dan batuk. Pengetahuan masyarakat tentang khasiat tanaman kumis yang mengandung berbagai senyawa aktif masih kurang. Serta masyarakat beranggapan bahwa pemanfaatan tanaman kumis kucing sebagai obat herbal sangat menguntungkan, mudah diperoleh, pengolahan yang sangat sederhana serta penggunaan yang dapat berulang karna bersifat tidak menimbulkan efek samping bagi tubuh. Saran dalam penelitian ini yaitu mengharapkan agar penelitian ini dapat bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa, sebagai bahan referensi atau perbandingan dalam melakukan penelitian selanjutnya.

Abstract

The problem highlighted in this study is that students' use of affixes in narrative essays does not fully conform to Indonesian language rules. The aim of this research is to analyze errors in affix usage in the narrative essays of Grade VII-A students at SMP Negeri 2 Toma. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach, with student narrative essays serving as the data source. The results indicate that errors in affix usage occur with the prefixes meN-, ber-, di-, peN-, and se-, with the most frequent error being the misuse of the prefix di-. This issue stems from the influence of the native language or local dialect and insufficient writing skills to grasp the nuances of writing tasks. The researcher recommends: (1) Teachers should effectively instruct students on proper Indonesian language usage according to established guidelines and enhance vocabulary while providing clear examples of correct usage both orally and in writing to motivate students. (2) Students should focus on expanding their vocabulary to produce accurate and well-written texts. To improve their understanding of affixation, they should read various sources, including books and online materials, to use as references. Reading both fiction and non-fiction can help clarify word usage and frequent reading can enhance their ability to express ideas in writing. (3) Schools should ensure access to a range of reading materials, such as resources on writing skills, EYD (Enhanced Spelling System), KBBI (Indonesian Dictionary), and both fiction and non-fiction texts, to serve as references for broadening knowledge and improving writing skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe students’ ability in writing procedural text and find out the obstacles students experienced in writing procedural text. This research used qualitative research. The data were taken from 18 procedural text that made by students. The data source was eleventh students at SMA Negeri 2 Hilisalawa’ahe Academic Year 2023/2024. The techniques of data collection were writing test and interview. The result of the research was the students’ ability in writing procedural text varied at every aspect of writing. However, the average students’ ability is content aspect was 20.27 which categorized fair to poor level, organization aspect was 13.5 which categorized fair to poor level, vocabulary aspect was 11.38 which categorized fair to poor level, language use aspect was 10.83 which categorized very poor level, and mechanic aspect was 4.3 which categorized fair to poor level. This is demonstrated based on the students’ level of difficulty in writing procedural text. And the result of data analysis of students’ ability in writing procedural text at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Hilisalawa’ahe was categorized in poor. Furthermore the obstacles experienced by students in writing procedural text were difficulties in organizing in ideas, limited vocabulary and incompetence at grammar. It is suggest to the English teacher improve learning in the classroom, especially in procedural text material.
