Abstract

Background. Alkasite restoration materials are introduced as dental restoration materials to improve the function, shape and aesthetics of teeth. One of the aesthetic factors that needs to be considered is the smoothness of the surface of the restoration. The smoothness of restoration surface can be affected by various factors, one of which is the degradation due to low pH. Alkasite restoration materials are mentioned to have strong polymer bonds and fillers that can release hydroxide ions which are expected to neutralize acids. Objective. To determine the effect of lemon juice on the surface roughness of alkasite restorative materials. Methods. The samples used in this study were Cention N which was light-cured with LED light-curing unit. Samples were divided into 2 groups to be immersed in lemon juice and water  in  separate container for 1 hour 45 minutes. Surface roughness was measured before and after immersion using surface roughness tester (Surtronic S128 S-100 Series Handheld Roughness Tester). Results. The results showed significant changes in pH of lemon juice from 2,8 to 5,7 as well as average difference of surface roughness in the Alkasite restoration samples before and after immersion (ΔRa) in lemon juice (0.22680±0.022599 µm)  and  water (0.04600±0.032303 µm). Conclusion. This study showed that there was an increase  of lemon juice pH and Alkasite restoration surface roughness after immersion in lemon juice.

Abstract

Background: Endodontic treatment of young permanent (immature) necrosis  teeth is often challenging because the condition of thin and short roots increases the risk of fracture during  treatment. Review: The optimum healing condition for teeth with open apex necrotic pulp is to regrow functional pulp tissue and continued root development. A novel concept of revascularization of immature nonvital, infected teeth was recently introduced. Conclusions: This paper summarizes the literature supporting biological reasons for considering revascularization procedures for immature permanent teeth with pulp necrosis and the future potential of regenerating the pulp tissue as a routine dental procedure

Abstract

Background. Drugs or addictive compounds used for specific cases are prescribed by physicians and doctors. However, the drugs being illegally misused can cause several health issues including oral health complications. Study shows that abusive drugs can result in periodontal problems which could lead to loss of attachment. Objectives. To assess the degree of gingival recession in drug rehabilitation patients at RSKO. Method. Thirty rehabilitation patients at RSKO Jakarta were observed in the distribution of gingival recession in anterior teeth over clinical photographs. The findings of gingival recession were grouped according to Miller's classification. Gingival recession was observed based on history of oral hygiene maintenance, type of drug, and length of time of drug use. Results. Based on Miller's classification, it was found that grade I gingival recession was 63% and grade II was 38% in patients with poor oral hygiene status. Grade III gingival recession was found in patients with deficiences oral hygiene status. Patients with a history of using mixed drugs had a higher risk of experiencing gingival recession (63%). Grade III gingival recession was mostly found in patients with a history of consuming more than one type of drug (60%), and had taken drugs for more than 5 years (80%). Conclusion. Gingival recession was found more in patients with a history of drug abuse and poor oral hygiene.

Abstract

Background: Pulp diseases can be affected by bacterial invasion such as Porphyromonas endodontalis. This bacterial invasion can lead to pulp diseases which include irreversible pulpitis and necrotic pulp. Purpose: To determine Porphyromonas endodontalis difference between teeth with irreversible pulpitis and necrotic pulp. Method: Samples were taken from root canals fluid of 18 teeth, 9 teeth with irreversible pulpitis, 9 teeth with necrotic pulp, using paper point. The paper point was placed in sterile Eppendorf tube, then DNA were extracted using Heat-Shock DNA Extraction method. Real-time PCR was used to collect the data. The conversion of microbiological data were used standard curve of Porphyromonas endodontalis. Result: The average of Real-time PCR on irreversible pulpitis was 6.9 x 10-12 ng/mL and on necrotic pulp was 1.3 x 10-12 ng/mL. However, t independent test showed there was no significant difference of Porphyromonas endodontalis between teeth with irreversible pulpitis and necrotic pulp (p>0,05) Conclusion: There was no difference in the total number of Porphyromonas endodontalis between teeth with irreversible pulpitis and necrotic pulp.

Abstract

Background: Latest technological advances have led to a constant desire to develop new approaches for the treatment of periodontal diseases, as a diode laser. Objective: This article reviews the diode laser is a soft tissue laser having a wavelength of 810 nm or 910-980nm, is being developed for a variety of uses in periodontal therapy. The diode lasers have been used in initial periodontal therapy for sulcular debridement, soft tissue surgery,  hypersensitive dentin, photodynamic therapy and also in implant treatment. Literatur review: The laser is a less-invasive method  compared with the conventional technique because it produces    little cell destruction. Diode lasers are used to overcome the disadvantages of conventional therapy, including postoperative pain dan discomfort, and suturing in conventional.  Conclusion: Laser use is beneficial as it requires minimal anaesthesia, lesser surgical time and good post-operative healing, reduced post operative pain and sensitivity, reduced patient anxiety.

Abstract

Background: Mortality from cancer has increased especially in the developing country. Global pattern shows the half of mortality occurred in Asia. One type of cancer occurring in Indonesia is nasopharyngeal cancer. Clinacanthus nutans is a species of herbal plants in the Acanthaceae family that grows in tropical Asia, especially Indonesia. This plant is considered as one of traditional medicinal plants, which is effective in treating several diseases, including cancer. Different polarity of solvent that used to extract this plant will have different dissolved compounds. Objective: To determine the effect of ethanol, hexane, and water extract of C. nutans leaves on HONE-1 cell proliferation.Method: This study conducted using experimental research in vitro laboratory. Three different extract, ethanol, hexane, and water extract of C. nutans leaves treated to HONE-1 cell. Cell proliferation was measured using MTT assay.Result: The results showed significant differences (p <0.05) of treatments group compared to negative control. Ethanol extract showed the highest inhibition of HONE-1 cell proliferation.Conclusion: Ethanol, hexane, and water extract of C. nutans leaves could inhibit the HONE-1 cell proliferation

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Gipsum merupakan mineral alam yang dimanfaatkan dalam konstruksi bangunan dan bidang kedokteran gigi. Bahan dasar partikel -hemihidrat dimiliki oleh gipsum bangunan serta gipsum kedokteran gigi tipe 2 yaitu dental plaster dan orthodontic plaster. Sifat mekanis berupa kekuatan tekan memiliki peranan penting dalam aplikasi gipsum di bidang kedokteran gigi. Tujuan: Untuk membandingkan kekuatan tekan gipsum bangunan dan gipsum kedokteran gigi tipe 2 setelah 24 jam. Metode: Penelitian eksperimental laboratoris dibagi kedalam 3 kelompok (gipsum bangunan, dental plaster, orthodontic plaster) yang masing-masing terdiri dari 10 sampel. Gipsum dimanipulasi dengan perbandingan 50 g bubuk dan 25 mL akuades, diaduk hingga homogen menggunakan gypsum mixer (HL-YMC, Cina). Adonan gipsum dituang pada mould silindris berukuran (20±0,2) mm x (40±0,4) mm sesuai standar ISO 6873/ Spesifikasi ADA No. 25 dan diletakkan pada vibrator. Berat gipsum ditimbang setelah pembuatan sampel dan setelah 24 jam. Pengujian kekuatan tekan dilakukan 24 jam setelah pembuatan sampel menggunakan Universal Testing Machine (Shimadzu AGX-V 10kN, Japan) dengan chs 1 mm/min. Hasil: Pada penelitian didapatkan perbandingan nilai rerata kekuatan tekan gipsum bangunan (11,51 0,65) MPa, dental plaster (11,18 0,75) MPa, dan orthodontic plaster (13,15 0,79) MPa. Orthodontic plaster memiliki kekuatan tekan tertinggi sedangkan nilai kekuatan tekan gipsum bangunan tidak berbeda bermakna dengan dental plaster. Analisis menggunakan One way ANOVA dan Post Hoc-Tukey menjelaskan bahwa nilai kekuatan tekan antar kelompok memiliki perbedaan signifikan dengan p<0,05. Perbedaan bermakna terjadi antara kelompok orthodontic plaster terhadap gipsum bangunan dan dental plaster. Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa gipsum bangunan dapat digunakan sebagai bahan alternatif gipsum kedokteran gigi tipe 2.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Bahan adhesif merupakan salah satu faktor penting dalam restorasi resin komposit. Resin komposit berikatan dengan jaringan gigi melalui bahan adhesif. Jaringan email dan dentin memiliki struktur yang berbeda sehingga berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan bahan adhesif. Pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang perkembangan bahan adhesif dan prinsip ikatannya terhadap struktur gigi sangat diperlukan agar restorasi resin komposit dapat bertahan lama. Tujuan: untuk memberikan pengetahuan tentang perkembangan bahan adhesif serta prinsip dasar ikatannya terhadap jaringan email dan dentin.

Abstract

Latar Belakang : Maloklusi yang mulai berkembang dapat segera dilakukan perawatan dini untuk mencegah bertambah parah pada periode gigi tetap. Jenis perawatan yang dapat dilakukan yaitu perawatan ortodonti interseptif. Perawatan ortodonti interseptif adalah perawatan yang dilakukan pada masa pertumbuhan ketika muncul tanda-tanda maloklusi pada periode gigi campur. Penilaian kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti interseptif dapat menggunakan Indeks Kebutuhan Perawatan Ortodonti Interseptif (IKPO-I). Penilaian indeks ini diberikan secara kuantitatif dengan memberikan skor spesifik pada tiap gambaran maloklusi. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui hubungan antara tingkat pendidikan orang tua dengan kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti interseptif pada anak usia 8-11 tahun di SDN 01 Krukut Jakarta Barat. Metode: Pemeriksaan intra oral pada anak dengan kaca mulut yang dilakukan oleh dokter gigi dan pencatatan dengan menggunakan formulir pemeriksaan IKPO-I yang setiap indikator diberikan skor berdasarkan kondisi intra oral subjek. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan berupa penelitian observasional analitik dengan rancangan potong silang. Hasil: Subjek penelitian sebanyak 90 murid SDN 01 Krukut Jakarta Barat. Hasil pemeriksaan menggunakan IKPO-I diperoleh hasil tingkat pendidikan orang tua sebagian besar berada pada tingkat pendidikan menengah sebanyak 73 (81,1%). 43 (47,8%) membutuhkan perawatan ortodonti interseptif, 9 (10,0%) tidak membutuhkan perawatan ortodonti dan 21 (23,3%) membutuhkan perawatan korektif. Kesimpulan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat pendidikan orang tua dengan kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti interseptif (p = 0,448).

Abstract

Background: Cephalometric analysis is one of the supporting tools in establishing a correct diagnosis. From the various methods of cephalometric analysis, one that used is the analysis of Ricketts. This Ricketts analysis has a method for determining the position of facial convexity, dental position and face profile. This study was thus carried out to describe the value of cephalometric measurements in patients with Deutro Melayu race aged 8-12 years using Ricketts analysis. Method: This type of research is a descriptive observational cross sectional design. Samples were taken in the form of secondary data, namely cephalograms from orthodontic patients at RSGM FKG Usakti in January 2018 to December 2018. The analysis was carried out by measuring 8 Ricketts analysis parameters, namely: facial axis, facial depth, mandibular plane, convexity of point A, lower incisor to A-Pog, upper molar to PtV, lower incisor to A-Pog, lower lip to aesthetic lines. Result: Based on Ricketts analysis, the cephalometric mean value of RSGM FKG Usakti orthodontic patients was facial axis of 87,8°; facial depth of 85,6°; mandibular plane of 31°; convexity of point A 3,5 mm; the lower incisor distance to A-Pog of 3,0 mm; upper molar to PtV of 7,8 mm; the lower incisor angle to A-Pog of 23,5°;  lower lip to aesthetic lines of 1,9 mm. Conclusions: Deutro Malay Race has a skeletal class 1 with a tendency towards lower incisor proclination and mild  protusive lower lips.
