Abstract

Project Based Learning (PjBL) is a learning model that can be used to integrate students’ technical skills and soft skills through project-based learning experiences. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of PjBL in improving students’ soft skills in the Dispensing course at Akademi Refraksi Optisi YLPTK Padang. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, documentation, project product assessment, and soft skill assessment. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of PjBL in the Dispensing course was categorized as very good. Learning planning obtained a percentage of 87%, learning implementation 89%, project management 86%, and evaluation and reflection 88%. The project assessment obtained a mean score of 3.80 out of 4.00. Meanwhile, students’ soft skill assessment obtained a percentage of 91%, categorized as very good. The soft skills developed included communication, teamwork, responsibility, creativity, problem-solving, time management, independence, work ethic, and leadership. Therefore, the implementation of PjBL can serve as an alternative learning model for the Dispensing course to support the development of students’ soft skills while integrating practical competencies with the demands of the workplace.
