Abstract

This action research explored the development of instructional material in module form based on process image which valid, practice, and effective at physics learning in senior high school. Physics contained the concepts with the fundamental categorising something into presenting on verbal so the physics concepts are usually abstract so that mental image needed. The development of this module is one of instructional material which can help the student thinking systematic about the physics concepts so that it can learn by students independently. The module must be describing the basic competencies and it will be achieved by students and served with a good language, interesting, and completed by illustration clearly. Process Image interpreted by a series of images (objects, events, phenomenon), which every image of that series always look a different combination overall describing phase stages comprehensive. The development of module in this research is using Thiagarajan design research and development 4D (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate) and it still at the phase Develops which the result through expert validation and action research that is a plan, action, observe, and reflection during the research. Finally, the collision module based on process image can be used in physics learning.

Abstract

Character building for the young generation nowadays is very urgent. It is because they see the phenomena that occur in the daily life of society and the challenges facing increasingly complex. Education implemented in schools not only provides the knowledge and skills that are academic only but can bring students to the next generation of the nation who not only have the skills of knowledge but also has a dignified character that can be reflected in the daily life of students. Education in schools through the activities of mathematical learning in the classroom should be well designed so that the purpose of shaping the character of students through learning of mathematics in school can be achieved. The purpose of building the character of the student is not easy, therefore a continuous and systematic plan is required. Lesson Design which contains the objectives of forming the character of the student should be seen, not just the impact of the accompanist of a learning plan only. One of the learning models that can build student character is problem-based learning. The character of the student can be built in each of the stages of problem-based learning include persistent, creative, tenacious, and curiosity.

Abstract

This article is a result of developmental research of PPE (Peer, Tutoring, Presentation, and Evaluation) model for remedy several science misconceptions: work, kinetic energy, the potential energy of junior high school students. The research aims to describe the science misconceptions of students and the effectiveness PPE model to remedy students’ misconceptions. The research was conducted by 31 students of SMP 1 Kencong, Jember Regency, who had misconceptions of those concepts. Technique for collecting data was test and interview. The data collection were analysed qualitatively descriptive. Findings of the research were: Most of the students had three kinds of misconceptions, they said that if a body has a force, it also has work; if velocity of body increased three times, so the kinetic energy increased three times; in freely falling bodies, when an object approaches the ground, it has null kinetic energy and high potential energy. The effectiveness of the PPE model to remedy those students’ misconceptions can be seen from positive students’ responses to the implementation of the model to remedy their misconceptions and the average of the number of students’ misconceptions decrease from 100% to 15,4%. The study can be concluded that the PPE model effective for remedy students’ misconceptions of work, kinetic energy, and potential energy concepts.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are (1) to identify teachers’ beliefs in teaching, (2) to identify the factors that influence their belief and practice in teaching, and (3) to identify the implementation of teachers’ beliefs in teaching. The subjects of the research are two mathematics teachers. The data are collected through observation, interview, and document analysis. Interactive models from Miles and Huberman were used to examine the data. The findings of this research are: (1) there are some similarities and differences between teachers’ beliefs in a teaching of accountancy and tourism teachers. The similarities and differences are in education and teaching and in curricula. Meanwhile, in teaching profession, the teachers have same beliefs, (2) there are seven factors which affect teachers’ beliefs and practice in teaching that consist of teaching experience, learning experience, classroom management, student’s family, students’ colleagues, motivation, and teaching media, and (3) dealing with teaching practice, accountancy teacher does continuous teaching in which one genre is taught continuously to the next meeting, while tourism teacher does one finished teaching in which one genre is taught in one meeting. In their teaching practice, there are some beliefs about education and teaching and about curricula are not implemented, while beliefs about teaching profession are implemented. The inconsistency between teachers’ beliefs and teaching practices is caused by affecting factors revealed by the teachers. Therefore, it is important for teachers to reduce the factors that impede the smoothness of teachers’ beliefs in teaching practice or even change their teaching belief if it cannot facilitate students to learn.
