Abstract

General background: The digital transformation in the 5.0 era requires Islamic educational institutions to adopt adaptive management systems. Specific background: The Indonesian government provides free learning accounts for students and teachers as part of this effort. Knowledge gap: While previous studies emphasize learning accounts in teaching and assessment, limited attention is given to their role in institutional management. Aims: This study investigates the implementation of learning account upgrading, its use in management, and the challenges faced by Islamic educational institutions. Results: Conducted at Al Fattah Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, from December 18–31, 2023, using quantitative methods through observation, documentation, and interviews, findings show that 56.25% of users had activated their accounts. However, 71.3% of junior high students had not activated due to limited access to laptops and Chromebooks (2–5 users per device). Novelty: This research highlights how learning accounts are upgraded to support digitalized management beyond classroom use. Implications: Institutions are encouraged to strengthen digital infrastructure and provide socialization to maximize account utilization for sustainable management in the digital era. Highlights: Learning account upgrading extends beyond teaching into institutional management. Main obstacle: limited device availability among junior high students. Novel contribution: bridging management digitalization in Islamic boarding schools. Keywords: Learning Account; Upgrading; Islamic Education; Digitalization; Management

Abstract

General Background: Quality management in Islamic education is crucial for ensuring effective learning outcomes and institutional development. Specific Background: Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah 1 Paciran, as a leading Islamic high school, applies input–process–output management but faces challenges in maintaining consistent standards. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have deeply explored how Islamic secondary schools address obstacles in quality management through practical strategies. Aims: This research aims to analyze the obstacles, solutions, and indicators of quality management at MA Muhammadiyah 1 Paciran. Results: The study, using descriptive qualitative methods through observation and interviews, reveals that input challenges include detailed planning in student admission (PPDB), process challenges involve teachers’ limited use of PAIKEM and IT skills, while output challenges are related to students’ inconsistent engagement in follow-up programs. Solutions include structured TUPOKSI in PPDB, continuous teacher training, IT-based learning media, and institutional motivation programs. Novelty: This study emphasizes integrated solutions combining administrative detail, pedagogical strategies, and technological adaptation within an Islamic education context. Implications: Findings highlight the importance of structured management and innovation in Islamic high schools to strengthen student outcomes and institutional competitiveness. Highlights: Identifies obstacles in input, process, and output management. Provides practical solutions for teacher capacity and IT integration. Offers insights for strengthening Islamic high school quality. Keywords: Quality Management; Input-Process-Output; Islamic Education; Madrasah; Secondary School

Abstract

General background: The quality of Islamic educational institutions is strongly determined by the managerial capacity of principals as key leaders. Abstract

General Background: The growing competition among higher education institutions requires Islamic universities to develop strong competitive strategies. Specific Background: Private Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIS) in Sidoarjo represent a significant portion of Islamic universities in Indonesia, yet their competitive edge remains underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not sufficiently addressed how PTKIS transform their strengths into marketable advantages in alignment with both Marx’s commodification theory and Porter’s strategic management framework. Aims: This study aims to analyze and reveal the competitive advantages of PTKIS through differentiation, cost leadership, and focus strategies. Results: Findings show PTKIS A emphasizes differentiation, while PTKIS B prioritizes cost-focused strategies. Both institutions commodify their advantages through curriculum innovation, industry-based programs, partnerships, human resource development, technology adoption, marketing, and superior student services. Novelty: The research highlights how PTKIS commodify competitive advantages into tangible educational products and services, offering a unique insight into the intersection of Islamic education and market-oriented strategies. Implications: The study provides a practical reference for higher education institutions and policymakers to strengthen strategic positioning, attract students, and ensure institutional sustainability. Highlights: PTKIS apply distinct strategies: differentiation vs. cost leadership. Competitive advantages commodified into curriculum, partnerships, and services. Offers practical insights for sustaining Islamic higher education competitiveness. Keywords: Competitive Advantages, Commodification, Islamic Universities, Strategic Management, Higher Education
