Abstract

Livestock productivity is affected by environmental and genetic factors. This study identifies body measurements and physiological status of Saanen dairy goats at Indo Natural Farm, Sukabumi, using a descriptive quantitative method with a census approach. The population included males and females in three age categories: <1 year, 1–2 years, and >2 years. Body measurements, body length (BL), heart girth (HG), and withers height (WH)—were recorded by sex and age. In general, most goats met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 7352-4:2022). However, 4–5 month and 18-month-old bucklings, as well as 18-month-old does, showed body measurements below the minimum standard. At 24 months, only body length in does fell below standard. Physiological parameters, including rectal temperature (kids: 39.4 °C; adults: 39.0 °C), respiratory rate (kids: 37 breaths/min; adults: 37 breaths/min), and heart rate (kids: 95 bpm; adults: 88 bpm), remained within normal ranges, indicating no heat stress. These findings suggest that while most Saanen goats meet body measurement and physiological standards, targeted improvements may be needed for specific age groups to optimize growth and productivity. Keywords: body size, physiological status, diary goats, saanen goat, invirontmental factors

Abstract

Sentul chicken is a native Indonesian chicken breed originating from the Ciamis Regency area that has the potential to be an egg and meat producer. Utilization of bioactive compounds contained in noni fruit is expected to increase the weight produced through increased absorption of feedstuff nutrients. This study involved 100 Sentul chickens divided into four treatment groups with five repetitions, using a variety of feed containing microencapsules at doses of 0, 75, 150, and 225 mg/kg MNFE. The microencapsulation method in this study used maltodextrin as the coating and spray drying as the drying method. The research findings indicated that the use of microencapsulated noni fruit extract significantly affected the slaughter weight and edible weight. The most effective dose was found at 75 mg/kg MNFE, which resulted in an optimal increase in slaughter weight and edible weight but did not reduce inedible weight. Therefore, the use of microencapsulated noni fruit extract not only contributes to the increase in weight, but also has the potential to become an alternative natural feed additive in the livestock industry, especially in an effort to reduce dependence on Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP).

Abstract

Quail eggs are a highly nutritious source of animal protein at an affordable price. However, their internal quality tends to decline during storage due to physicochemical changes. Padjadjaran Quail is a local variety developed through purification and crossbreeding of brown and black strains of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica), possessing good egg production potential and quality. Studies on the internal quality of Padjadjaran Quail Eggs during long-term storage remain limited. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between storage duration and yolk index, albumen index, and haugh unit of Padjadjaran Quail Eggs. The research was conducted over 60 days at room temperature using 420 Padjadjaran Quail Eggs from hens in peak production phase at the Poultry Production Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Padjadjaran. The data were analyzed descriptively, followed by correlation and regression tests. Results showed a decrease in average yolk index from 0.44 to 0.11, albumen index from 0.12 to 0.01, and haugh unit from 90.28 to 59.56. A very strong correlation was found between storage duration and each parameter. The regression models obtained were Y = 0.327 – 0.004X (yolk index), Y = 0.108 – 0.002X (albumen index) and Y = 91.698 – 0.536X (HU).Keywords: storage duration, quail eggs, yolk index, albumen index, haugh unit
