Abstract

Abstract: This article affirms the relevance of multicultural education in the endeavour to construct nationalistic ideals that covers four pillars: Pancasila, the Unitary State of Indonesia, the 1945 Constitution, and Unity in Diversity. Even though the conception of nation-state based on Pancasila has become the national consensus since 1945, it must be admitted that lately nationalistic ideals have increasingly been threatened by primordialistic religious practices. The formation of a multicultural society in Indonesia that is based on nationalistic ideals must be conducted systematically, structurally, integrally, and sustainably. In that context the approach of multicultural education is very relevant. Specifically, the concept of multicultural education includes acknowledgement of individual cultural differences of minority groups. The concept of multicultural education contains aspirations as well as efforts to respect the dignity of each person. Keywords: nationalistic ideas, Pancasila, national identity, multicultural education, diversity, multiculturalism, civil society

Abstract

Abstract: This article contains the idea of Pope Francis’ contextualizations as expressed in some of his encyclicals. In his Evangelii Gaudium (Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis supports inculturation as well as having the view that Hellenist culture is particularly appropriate in expressing Christian faith, and thus needs to be appreciated as a norm for the Church aside from the Holy Bible. In his Laudato Si (On Care for our Common Home), Pope Francis refers to a method used in liberation theology that is “See – judge – act”. Pope Francis stresses the importance of the process of observation of situations, considering the causes, and designing the actions. By referring to chapter 8 of the Apostolic Mandate Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love), the risks that must always be carried by each person who wishes to confront the Gospel with concrete-actual conditions are discussed. In the concluding part of this article several examples of the Pope’s sensitivity towards cultures and unusual and complex social political situations are shown by referring to the Magnum Principium (The Great Principle) Decree and the visit of Pope Francis to Myanmar. Keywords: Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, Laudato Si’, Amoris Laetitia, Magnum Principium, theology inculturation

Abstract

Abstract: This article will identify apocalyptic texts in the Protestant canonical book and then explain about Martin Luther and Thomas Muntzer’s approach to apocalyptic texts. They see historical events from an apocalyptic perspective but contradict their application in social and political life. The author considers that apocalyptic texts are very influential in the socio-political movements that have been practiced by Muntzer and Luther. After seeing the approach and application of Muntzer and Luther to apocalyptic texts, the author explains the views of Marxist thinkers about the relationship of the Protestant reform movement and revolutionary theory. Keywords: movement, revolutionary, reformation, apocalyptic, Luther, Muntzer.

Abstract

Abstract: Does the internet change the way of thinking from the people and members of the Church in Indonesia? I give a “yes” answer to this question. This answer was born from the reality that digital technology is not limited as a means or instrument that helps humans to achieve a better life. More than that, the internet has become a space of life that determines and gives meaning to human existence and the existence of the Indonesian Church. The internet also creates a culture called cyber culture. If the internet breeds new logical thinking and culture, and its existence has seized the attention of members of the Catholic Church, so the internet can become locus theologicus. The existence of the internet as a locus of theology is confirmed by the Popes.Seeing this reality, the Indonesian Catholic Church through the theologians need to develop a new theology, namely cyber theology. Through this cyber theology, the members of the Church find that the sophisticated communication technology reflects Christianism which is fundamentally a communicative event. Keywords: Cyber theology, internet, Indonesian Church, cyber culture

Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to explore the connection between spirituality and entrepreneurship. Spirituality is a part of theology, and it has recently become an important topic in the field of economy particularly in entrepreneurship. Spirituality strengthens the commitment of entrepreneurs to advance their businesses, to help them deal with stressful situations, to sharpen the vision of their businesses, and to motivate them in keeping their business values. Spirituality also supports the entrepreneurs in giving meaning to their work, to increase their happiness, and to make them more loyal to the organization. By having a strong spirituality, the entrepreneurs can run their businesses not only to gain profits – for themselves and others – but also to enable them to better serve the people. Keywords: spirituality, entrepreneurship, theology, business, driving force, capital

Abstract

Abstract: This article exposes the importance of doing philosophy and theology in Indonesian context. The reason is that philosophizing and theologizing are not only pure rational activities, but ways of how to contribute significantly in the context of Indonesian society and Church. Furthermore, the article argues that pluralism, poverty, social welfare and the environmental destruction are fundamental problems and questions that philosophy and theology cope with. However, the questions are not only typical Indonesian, but global problems. Consequently, doing philosophy and theology in Indonesian context is not an exclusive activity, rather than taking part at a global and inclusive process. Keywords: philosophize, theological, Indonesia, pluralism, poverty, environment
