Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal about Princess Diana’s role in society in Andrew Morton Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words. This research is classified as a qualitative research. The data gathered are in the form of words as well as quotation. The writer collects the data from two kinds of sources namely primary source and secondary. The primary data source was taken from the Biography book Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words by Andrew Morton. And the secondary source is other material that supports the analysis, such as website. The result of this study shows the role of Princess Diana in society. Diana as a Princess actives in humanitarian activities, she was always seen visit and entertain AIDS sufferers, leprosy and other diseases, she also actively visited homeless people in shelters, she was active in supporting human welfare, and actively raised funds and formed charities to help people who need help. The one thing that Diana had done that shocked the world at the time was when she broke the stigma about Aids, that touching or shaking hands with people with Aids would get infected, but Diana shook their hands and even sat close and comforted them. Besides that which is not less great than that, Diana shakes hands with lepers without gloves. Diana also bravely walked in the area that was landed by landmines in protest of landmines in Angola. Diana also often entertained friends who were in grief. Even though the princess was gone but the legacy that she gave to her children, worthy lessons about the life she taught in her children made them follow in her mother's footsteps so Diana's role in society remains until now.

Abstract

This study was conducted for the following purposes, firstly, identifying the elements of S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G analysis that is found in Kabasaran Dance, secondly, identifying verbal and non-verbal expressions used in Kabasaran Dance and the last is explaining the meaning of those expressions. And it was delimited to Kabasaran dance which used Tombulu language. In conducting this research, descriptive method was used, since the matter of fact that the data are collected in the form of words. This research is classified as a qualitative research, since the data were collected in the form of words, sentences, and expressions, not numbers. The subject of this research is Kabasaran Dance. Specifically, about the expressions that is used by dancers of Kabasaran Dance. The informant was taken from Wailan Village, and the status of the informat is leader of Sanggar Seni Mahsambureyrey Organization. Based on the research conducted in the expressions used in Kabasaran Dance, the data could be concluded that the expressions used in Kabasaran Dance consists of twenty four words, which is each word has a different meaning and it is mostly refers to the commands given by leader of Kabasaran dance. Through this data presented above, it can be improve the reader’s knowledge about Kabasaran Dance. It was suggested that language learners especially the students, should understand the object and the data source to analyze communication utterance using S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G analysis by Dell Hymes

Abstract

The study aimed at identifying and analyzing the types and levels of WH-question in two English Textbooks namely, English in Mind Textbook (EIM) and Bright An English Textbook (BAE) for eighth grade junior high school. The objective of the analysis was to evaluate the WH –questions in the light of the Bloom’s New Taxonomy (1956) Taxonomy learning objectives ( Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, Creating).Content analysis was used to conducted all the WH-questions in the two textbooks. All the WH-questions were collected, listed, and analyzed according to Bloom’s New Taxonomy. The result from a total of 140 questions (70 questions in EIM and 70 questions in BAE) showed that most of the questions were align with remembering , understanding, and applying as the three lower – level categories, while analyzing, evaluating, and creating as the three higher-level categories constitude the lowest frequency in the two textbooks.Another result also for the proportion of higher-order questions in both Textbook showed that EIM received higher distribution while BAE constitute the highest distribution on lower-order questions. The result indicate that the textbooks failed to engage learners in the questions requiring higher levels of cognitive learning objectives.In the light of the results, the researcher suggested to modified the questions in the textbooks to cover the six levels of Bloom’s new Taxonomy and to train teachers and author of textbook to use and write question following the Bloom’s new Taxonomy

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify thesymbols of hope in Celine Dion’s songs A New Day Has Come and I’m Alive in the Album A New Day Has Come. Descriptive qualitative design is used in this research. The data were collected by listing the lyrics per stanza and line of Celine Dion’s two chosen songs that being suitable with the main purpose of this research. The analysis of the data oriented on the objective approach according to M. H. Abrams. The findings show that the symbols of hope were strongly presented in two chosen songs. The presentation of hope was dominated by symbols in the form of figurative language which are metaphor and personification. Those symbols were revealed hope that encouraged listener for never give up hoping and keep motivated to face daily life. Furthermore, it is expected that this study will be useful for the further researchers that about to conduct the study related and helpful for the readers to study poetry in song, especially in essence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is find how students’ perceptions of using YouTube in Vocabulary Mastery. YouTube is online Video sharing platform which allows users to upload, view, and share video from all over the world therefore can also as media online learning especially in mastering vocabulary. The researchers use quantitative research and the sample of this research is 37 students in seven semester of English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. Researchers use questionnaire as instrument in collecting the data. Questionnaire is one of research instrument, which aims for collecting data in survey research and also can be thought of as kind of written interview. The type of questionnaire that used in this research is closed-ended questionnaire. It is used like scale questionnaire in data collection and analyzed in statistical descriptive. Optional for the questioner measuring from strongly agrees, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. The result in this research is found by seeing the responses of students after distributing the questionnaire and collecting the data. As the result mostly students give positive perception using YouTube in vocabulary mastery and even give good impact to their ability especially in class environment.

Abstract

This study deals with the effect of gender differences on reading comprehension. The purpose is to answer the question: Does female students perform more significantly on reading comprehension of neutral text than do male students? The study that was conducted in the academic year 2019/2020, is pre-experimental in nature intact group design, and involved 60 grade students purposely selected based on their gender as the sample. They are then assigned into two treatment groups. The data are collected using an objective type test in multiple-choice format, and are analyzed statistically using t-test for independent sample. Result of the analysis showed that at p .05 and df 58, the t-observed is larger than t-table [3.333 ≥ 2.000). This indicates that female students outperformed their male counterparts in reading comprehension. In other words, it can be stated that gender differences affect reading comprehension

Abstract

The research is about improving the students’ vocabulary by using Mimicry Memorization Method of eighth grade at SMP Berea Tondano. The purpose of this research is to find out the students’ vocabulary improvement after teach by Mimicry Memorization Method. This research is quantitative research uses pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and pos-test. This study involves 18 students. The result of this study shows that the mean score of post-test (63,61) is higher than score of pre-test (55). The result of this research shows Mimicry Memorization Method is suitable to use in help the students to improve their vocabulary. English teacher suggests to apply Mimicry Memorization Method in order to help students to improve their vocabulary. The teacher should prepare the material well to get maximum result in teaching learning process. Teacher should create the condition of the class to be fun and livelier
