Abstract

This study aims to describe the values of character education contained in the poem Es ist Alle Eitel, the work of a German writer named Andreas Gryphius. This study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis method based on semiotic analysis, in this case semiotic analysis based on the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Pierce. The results of the analysis show that in this poem there are semiotic signs in the form of indexes and symbols, which reflect the values of character education. The index sign is found more than the symbol sign. While the icon sign is not found in this poem. Furthermore, the character education values contained in this poem are the character of believing and loving God, sincere faithful, humble, empathetic, intelligent responsibility and love for the environment.

Abstract

The research was conducted to obtain clear information about the ability of students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program to use Japanese gimonshi (question words). The Metode used in this study is a descriptive method through a quantitative approach with percentage data analysis techniques. The data collection is carried out through an ability test by providing 15 questions related to the word question in Japanese. The results of research conducted on students in the second semester of the Japanese Language Education Study Program in 2021/2022 totaling 30 people showed that many were not able to use it because the analysis value showed 46.9% which was still in the range of ≤ 50%.

Abstract

Metonymy according to the Great Dictionary of Indonesian is metonymia which means disclosure in the form of the use of names for other objects that are brands, distinctive features or attributes. The purpose of this study is to describe words or phrases that point to the disclosure of metonymia in Manado Malay as well as explaining the meaning according to the context based on semantic lexial relationships. The data were collected by participatory observation among students majoring in UNIMA English language education. Then the data were analyzed according to the steps of Bogdan and Biklen (1992). The results of the analysis showed that the use of metonymic speech was found in 5 categories based on the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), namely: container for content, part for whole, face for person, place for institution and producer for product. In order not to have misunderstandings in communicating, every speaker must understand the meaning according to the context of the speech

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ perceived difficulties in doing Indonesian-English translation, factors that caused the perceived difficulties, and strategies to overcome the difficulties. There were 90 students in the English Education Program at UNNES who completed the online questionnaire. From the results of the questionnaire, 10 students who had the highest score of translation difficulties were chosen to be interviewed. The findings revealed that most of the translation difficulties by Nord presented in the questionnaire were perceived by the students. The most perceived difficulties by the students, respectively, were technical, pragmatic, translator-dependent, and text-specific difficulties. While based on the interview with 10 respondents who got the highest score on the questionnaire, those difficulties were caused by some factors. They were lack of knowledge, lack of methodology, lack of motivation, lack of references, and other technical factors. With the same instrument, interview, there are also other findings, namely students’ strategies for overcoming their perceived difficulties. There were five strategies applied by the students, including finding more references; maximizing the use of translation tools; using descriptive equivalent techniques; using literal techniques; and asking friends.

Abstract

            This study aims to compare the effectiveness of using short video and infographics as learning media to improve student’s grammar knowledge in teaching present perfect tense. It also aims to analyze the improvement of teaching English ability during pandemics through the use of short videos and infographics at the 9th-grade student of SMP Negeri 25 Semarang. The research design is quasi-experimental research using two types of natural intact groups: experimental and control groups. The data were collected by observation using experimental, pre-test, and post-test techniques. Short videos are more effective than infographics in teaching the present perfect tense to 9th-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Semarang, and for 9th-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Semarang there is a significant contribution after teaching with short video and infographics on learning understanding the present perfect tense.

Abstract

In this pandemic situation, students are required to do online learning which makes students expected to have self-regulated learning skills so that they can catch the learning materials in school well. The purpose of this study are; 1). To find out the use of Youtube-based learning media in promoting students’ self-regulated learning skills during the pandemic, and 2). To find out the advantages and disadvantages of using Youtube-based learning media to promote students’ self-regulated learning skills during the pandemic, especially in 10th grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang. This research used descriptive qualitative as the research design. The research object is 10th grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang . The data collection in this study used abservation, questionnaire and interview. he result found that the use Youtube based learning media to attract students’ SRL skills during covid-19 pandemic are: students do SRL at home in order to improve their academic results, students used Youtube as learning media during pandemic, and Youtube videos makes it easier for students to understand material. Next, the result also found about the advantages of Youtube based learning media to promote students SRL skills during pandemic, those are: Youtube can be accessed anywhere and anytime, Youtube videos increase students motivation and interest to study, makes students happy and enjoy the learning material, has many explanatory videos related to the learning material, and students prefer to choose Youtube than textbooks. Last, the disadvantages are: the less interesting video and the monotonous videos makes students feel bored, an unstable internet connection makes it difficult to access Youtube, and an unstable internet connection makes the video resolution becomes low.

Abstract

: This scientific paper examines furoshiki. Furoshiki is a culture of folding fabrics to wrap things. The purpose of this study is to find out the meaning of the furoshiki philosophy for Japanese society and to find out the forms of furoshiki. The method used in this study is a descriptive research method, with literature study techniques for data collection. The data processing technique in this study is collected from existing sources, grouped, then analyzed, and used as the content of the study. Furoshiki can be used to wrap a wide variety of objects with different shapes such as flat objects and round-shaped objects, can be made into bags, and can also be used to decorate rooms. The meaning of the furoshiki philosophy for Japanese society is found in the colors and patterns of the furoshiki. Japanese society believes that the patterns present on the fabric can bring benefits to the recipient. Based on the results of this study, it is hoped that people will have awareness to start reducing the use of plastic for daily needs so as to reduce environmental pollution.
