Abstract

The concept of engagement is widely studied as a necessary positive behavior in the workplace. For this reason, this study aims to examine the engagement and burnout model in higher education by selecting students as study subjects. The determinants taken in this study were the lecturers’ teaching style and the student's achievement motivation. A total of 336 private higher education students in Student City, Indonesia, were used as study subjects. Model testing was done through path analysis. The antecedents of student engagement studied were teaching styles and student achievement motivation. The study results concluded that the teaching style could increase student engagement directly and indirectly through achievement motivation. This finding provides insight into the student engagement and burnout model, built through the lecturers’ teaching style and students’ achievement motivation. In addition, this study implies the significance of higher education attention in improving teaching methods to encourage student motivation and engagement so that learning outcomes are as expected. The two most important limitations, discussed in more detail at the end of the paper, comprised the study's cross-sectional nature and reliance on self-reported questionnaire data. This study implies the importance of higher education paying attention to efforts to increase student engagement and reduce burnout through the achievement motivation and teaching style determinants.

Abstract

One of the challenges for persons with disabilities is the low employment opportunities caused by the social stigma upon these people. Persons with disabilities can be discriminated against socially, culturally, and in terms of facilities both within their families, communities, and in society at large. Empowerment programs can support the employment of persons with disabilities. Policies to promote such programs are introduced both in middle-income countries, such as Indonesia, and high-income countries, such as Australia. This study analyzes the historical development of policies to promote economic empowerment programs for persons with disabilities in Indonesia and Australia. It uses a strength-based approach to help identify the factors that support and those that hinder the successful implementation of the programs in these two countries. The results will contribute recommendations to the government and relevant stakeholders in developing initiatives and policies to improve economic empowerment programs for persons with disabilities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Climate change has led to an increased risk of abrasion, tidal flooding, and ecosystem degradation in coastal areas, particularly in urban areas such as Surabaya. The Surabaya Mangrove Botanical Garden (KRMS) serves as an ecosystem-based conservation area that also plays a crucial role in climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration and protection against extreme climate impacts. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of integrating adaptation and mitigation actions in KRMS based on three main aspects: technical, social, and institutional. The research approach uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to assess expert perceptions and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze community perceptions. Vegetation analysis was conducted using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for the period 2015–2025. The results show an increase in the NDVI value from 0.21 (2015) to 0.63 (2025), indicating successful vegetation rehabilitation and improved ecosystem quality. AHP shows that the social aspect has the highest weighting (0.3712), followed by the technical aspect (0.3228) and the institutional aspect (0.3059). SEM results show that institutional (β = 0.557; p < 0.001) and technical (β = 0.251; p = 0.0079) aspects significantly influence the effectiveness of integration, while social aspects are not statistically significant. This study concludes that the effectiveness of adaptation and mitigation integration in KRMS depends on the synergy between these aspects. Strengthening institutional governance, increasing community ecological literacy, and optimizing the function of mangrove vegetation as blue carbon are the keys to adaptive and sustainable coastal area management.

Abstract

The growth of the digital fashion industry in Indonesia has concentrated the social media as a key consumer interaction and buying behavior platform. However, there is a decreasing number of interactions with the audience and fluctuations in purchase intention, despite a regular posting schedule, which Amor Tien has experienced. This research clarifies how the contents quality, the interactiveness, and emotional trust affect customer engagement and the mediating effect of engagement on purchase intention on the Instagram media. It is the mixed-method design, which involved a quantitative survey of 250 female Instagram users aged 18-35 years, a quantitative survey, and qualitative evaluation based on the content analysis and platform statistics. An analysis of the data was done using a partial least squares structural equation modelling (SEM-PLS) process. The findings prove that each of the investigated variables has a statistically significant positive impact on customer engagement, which consequently has a strong impact on the purchase intention. The study therefore suggests that the Instagram strategy should be optimized to include interactive, trustworthy, and constant content. In the case of Amor Tien, particularly the improvement of emotional communications, the creation of community-based interaction, and the usage of narrative-based content are essential to intensifying the engagement and maintaining sales growth in the long term.

Abstract

Heavy metal pollution such as Cu, Fe, and Pb is a serious environmental issue because it is toxic and can harm living things and the surrounding environment. Adsorption is a potential method to address heavy metal problems with bentonite as an adsorbent. Before use, natural bentonite will be activated first. Activation aims to increase the surface area, porosity, and number of active sites on the bentonite surface. This study aims to determine the optimum adsorbent mass in heavy metal adsorption and compare the best activation method using acid-activated bentonite (H₂SO₄ 1.2M) and acid-thermal activated bentonite, namely H₂SO₄ 1.2M and continued heating using a 300ᵒC furnace for 6 hours. In addition, comparing changes in the surface characteristics of acid bentonite and acid-thermal bentonite through characterization using SEM analysis. Adsorption was carried out using a single component synthetic solution containing Cu, Fe, and Pb metals with variations in adsorbent mass of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 grams. The results show that acid bentonite has an open and porous surface structure and has many active sites. In acid-thermal bentonite, the silicate structure becomes more stable despite slight damage to the Si structure and at a higher mass makes acid-thermal bentonite higher than acid bentonite. The optimum heavy metal degradation efficiency is achieved at an adsorbent mass of 1 gram with acid-activated bentonite which achieves a metal degradation efficiency of 45% Cu, 100% Fe and 88%.
