Abstract

Maritime shipping faces high risks due to rough weather that impairs visibility and increases the potential for collisions, especially in congested waters such as the Strait of Malacca. This study aims to identify optimal radar operation and supporting efforts for navigational officers when the MT. Ginga Lion is sailing in the moderate sea. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, the navigational officer population was purposively sampled (captain, chief officer, second officer AB). Instruments included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation; data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model with NVivo 14. The results showed that adjustments to Gain, Rain, Sea Clutter, and a combination of S-Band (long range) and X-Band (precision detection) radars were effective in overcoming rain clutter, supported by routine checks and navigational briefings. The conclusion confirms that the integration of technical, human resources, and procedures significantly improves navigational safety.

Abstract

The Engineering Profession carries high moral and legal responsibilities, and is obligated to adhere to the Indonesian Engineers Code of Ethics (KEII) to prioritize public safety. This mini-research examines the dilemma of Engineer integrity during the qualification process of welders for high-pressure pipeline (penstock) installations at the Parmonangan Mini-hydro Power Plant (PLTM) Project. Pressure from project management regarding cost and schedule potentially drives ethical compromises that endanger construction quality and operational safety. This research uses a Descriptive-Analytical Qualitative Case Study approach. Data was collected through a triangulation of findings from interviews with the Project Engineer, analysis of qualification documents, and field observation (Non-Destructive Testing/NDT results) at the Parmonangan PLTM Project. A critical technical gap was found: the project mandated 5G/6G welder qualification (ASME/AWS) for the penstock, yet the Project Engineer accepted welders with a lower 3G qualification, driven by cost and schedule pressures. This practice resulted in a high incidence of weld defects (e.g., porosity and undercut) requiring repair. This compromise was proven to violate fundamental points of the KEII: Mandate 1 (Public Safety): The decision to accept non-competent welders increased the risk of penstock failure, threatening public safety. Mandate 3 (Competence): The Engineer approved work that was technically unjustifiable according to standards. Mandate 6 (Professional Integrity): The Engineer failed to avoid a conflict of interest between ethical obligations and commercial interests. The practice of accepting welders with inadequate qualifications at the Parmonangan PLTM Project constitutes a fundamental violation of the KEII caused by business pressures. This not only diminishes construction quality but also potentially leads to long-term technical consequences, namely reduced integrity and service life of the facility. It is necessary for the Project Owner to affirm quality and safety as non-negotiable criteria. Furthermore, the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) must strengthen mechanisms for professional protection for Engineers who reject management policies that violate the code of ethics and technical standards.

Abstract

Agricultural sector plays an important role in Indonesia’s economic development, particularly in supporting food security and rural livelihoods. However, excessive use of chemical fertilizers has led to soil degradation and environmental damage, encouraging the development of organic fertilizers as a sustainable alternative. Although organic fertilizers are more environmentally friendly and relatively affordable, their adoption among farmers remains low, indicating a gap between environmental awareness and actual purchasing behavior. Previous studies show that purchase intention toward green products is influenced by green product attributes and perceived price, but the findings remain inconsistent. In addition, limited research has examined green perceived value as a mediating variable in explaining farmers’ purchase intention, especially in the context of village-owned enterprises (BUMDes). Therefore, this study examines the effect of green product and perceived price on purchase intention through green perceived value in organic fertilizer produced by BUMDes Maju Jaya, Kampar, Riau.

Abstract

Wahanarata Museum Yogyakarta is a cultural heritage destination that preserves the royal carriage collections of the Yogyakarta Sultanate while simultaneously adapting to the contemporary tourism landscape through digital innovation and educational tourism development. This study aims to analyse the sustainability aspects of Wahanarata Museum from the perspectives of cultural preservation, social sustainability, and tourism development. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using data triangulation techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the museum’s management and visitor experience. The findings reveal that the museum has implemented several sustainability-oriented strategies, including the revitalisation of museum facilities, the integration of digital technologies such as augmented reality and interactive educational media, and the involvement of Abdi Dalem as custodians of traditional values and cultural interpretation. These efforts demonstrate the museum’s attempt to balance heritage conservation with modern tourism demands. However, several challenges remain, particularly regarding limited bilingual interpretative information, insufficient digital promotion, and the need for more engaging educational communication strategies. From a socio-cultural perspective, the museum functions not only as a repository of historical artefacts but also as a living cultural space that maintains the continuity of Javanese traditions, collective memory, and local identity. The study concludes that the sustainability of cultural tourism destinations is not solely dependent on technological innovation or physical conservation, but also on the continuity of social values, community participation, and meaningful visitor experiences. Therefore, Wahanarata Museum has significant potential to become a model of sustainable cultural and educational tourism management that integrates heritage preservation, social sustainability, and digital transformation within the broader context of contemporary tourism development.

Abstract

Indonesia's nickel processing industry plays a strategic role in the global economy, yet fatal occupational safety incidents continue to plague the sector. This study aims to examine in-depth allegations of ethical violations in the PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) smelter furnace explosion tragedy in Morowali on December 24, 2023. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, analyzing secondary data through the lens of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) Code of Ethics and the Swiss Cheese Model accident investigation theory. The analysis reveals serious violations of the Catur Karsa principles, particularly the obligation to prioritize public safety. These failures are systemic, involving negligence in risk management, oversight of repair procedures (hot work), and the dominance of production interests over safety. This study recommends reforming the occupational safety and health culture by strengthening the authority of professional engineers and enforcing strict ethical sanctions.
