Abstract

Marine pollution due to bunkering activities has become a serious problem along with the increase in tanker activity and operational risks. This study aims to analyze the implementation and effectiveness of the Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan equipment during bunkering on the MT Giat Armada 04 vessel. The study used a qualitative case study approach supported by quantitative data. The population was all crew members, with a purposive sample of 18 informants directly involved in bunkering activities. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and Likert-scale questionnaires, then analyzed using data reduction, descriptive statistics, and triangulation. The results showed that the implementation of the SOPEP was classified as good with an average score of 3.84. The availability of equipment and crew understanding were adequate, but practical skills, compliance with PPE use, and the feedback system still needed to be improved. The study concluded that the SOPEP was effective in reducing the risk of oil spills during bunkering, but needed optimization through equipment maintenance, increased training frequency, and strengthened communication between crew and management.

Abstract

Maritime accidents are still dominated by human error and suboptimal maintenance of safety equipment, making lifeboat readiness a crucial aspect of ship safety management. This study aims to analyze the lifeboat maintenance procedures on board the MV. Jambo X and evaluate their compliance with SOLAS and ISM Code provisions. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach with a single case study design. The population was all deck crew involved in lifeboat maintenance, with a purposively selected sample of the Captain, Second Officer, and Boatswain. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that lifeboat maintenance had been carried out systematically through the Safety Management System and Planned Maintenance System, with most components in good condition and ready for use. However, inconsistencies were found in operational testing and equipment placement due to operational constraints. In conclusion, the lifeboat maintenance system is generally effective and meets standards, but requires improvement in the consistency of implementation and equipment arrangement to strengthen emergency preparedness.

Abstract

Modern maritime navigation has shifted from conventional methods to integrated electronic systems, where the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) plays a crucial role in improving navigation safety and efficiency. This study aims to analyze the deck officers' understanding level and identify factors that influence the effectiveness of ECDIS use on the MV. Hanwoori. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. The study population was deck officers, with a purposive sampling technique involving the Chief Officer, Second Officer, and Third Officer as informants. Data were collected through structured interviews, direct observation, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that ECDIS has been used effectively in route planning and monitoring, but there are still inconsistencies in setting safety parameters, updating ENCs, and managing alarms. These findings indicate that human factors, operational discipline, and technical competence influence system performance. The study's conclusion confirms that although deck officers have a fairly good operational understanding, optimization of safety features and continuous improvement of training are essential to improve navigation safety and minimize human error.

Abstract

The crew's readiness to anchor on the KMP Trisna Dwitya is still lacking, which has the potential to affect navigation safety. This study aims to identify the crew's readiness to anchor and identify factors that influence the implementation of anchoring maneuvers on the KMP Trisna Dwitya ship. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, direct interviews with the captain, chief officer, second officer, helmsman, boatswain, and documentation, while data analysis used the fishbone method to regularly identify causal factors. The results show that in general the implementation of anchor on the KMP Trisna Dwitya has run well and according to procedures, starting from the selection of the anchoring site to the adequate anchoring process. Most of the navigation tools functioned well such as Radar, GPS, ECDIS, Echo Sounder, but were hampered by the windlass which was jammed and the anemometer was not working, the bridge-bow communication was less effective when using a handy talky, as well as strong currents and dense traffic in the Bali Strait which affected the maneuvering process. In conclusion, the ship's crew is ready to carry out the anchoring maneuvering process but needs to carry out routine equipment maintenance, briefing before the anchoring process, and procurement of anemometer navigation tools to reduce the risk of accidents and improve safety.

Abstract

Maka’if is a traditional woven motif originating from the Dawan Miomafo community in North Central Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. This study investigates the segmentation and pattern analysis of the Maka’if motif using digital image processing techniques, specifically thresholding and Otsu thresholding. The dataset consisted of six original motif images that were augmented through rotational transformation to produce 30 image samples. The research process included image acquisition, preprocessing, grayscale conversion, filtering, segmentation, and performance evaluation using Mean Square Error (MSE) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR). Experimental results indicate that conventional thresholding was able to identify the basic motif structure but produced higher noise and inconsistent segmentation due to the use of a fixed threshold value. In contrast, Otsu thresholding automatically determined optimal threshold values based on image histogram distribution, resulting in clearer motif structures, lower noise, and more stable segmentation. The analysis revealed repetitive diamond-shaped geometric patterns combined with spiral and diagonal micro-ornaments as the main visual characteristics of the Maka’if motif. The proposed approach demonstrates the potential of digital image processing for the documentation, standardization, and preservation of traditional woven cultural heritage.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the role and legal position of sworn translators in translating Notarial Certificates related to the Letter of Authorization (LOA), as well as to address the legal implications of translation errors. This research employs a normative legal study method that includes a legislative and conceptual approach, bolstered by case studies such as that of the Nature Republic brand. The findings indicate that sworn translators play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and clarity of international legal documents within the Indonesian legal system. However, the regulations concerning the position and legal responsibilities of sworn translators remain incomplete, leading to legal uncertainties. Translation errors can create barriers to law enforcement and the protection of legal rights for the involved parties. Therefore, there is a need for clearer regulations regarding professional standards in this field.

Abstract

Indonesian archipelagic waters face increasing shipping accidents in narrow channels due to the growth of ship size, logistics intensity, and hydrodynamic challenges such as bank effect and squat, as reported by the KNKT and the case of MV Tonasa Line XI, with previous studies fragmented between human, operational, and environmental factors without integration of optimization for specific routes such as the Amamapare Channel. This study aims to analyze the optimization of ship maneuvering in narrow channels for safety and efficiency and determine the optimal speed to reduce the risk of collision and grounding. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design on the MV Meratus Dili during the 2024-2025 voyage in Amamapare, a purposive sample included ship officers namely Master, Chief Officer, Second, and Third Officer based on navigational expertise. Instruments included observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, analyzed inductively through data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions with triangulation. The results show that speeds >6 knots at low tide reduce Under Keel Clearance (UKC) by 0.35 m; radar and echosounder are crucial, but voyage planning lacks tidal analysis. In conclusion, the optimal speed is 4-5 knots during low tide or high traffic, maintaining a UKC of ≥0.5m; improve SOPs through checklists and training to reduce accidents by 20-30%.

Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a company's social obligation as mandated by Law No. 40 of 2007 concerning Limited Liability Companies and various other environmental regulations. PT. PHI Balam, as a company operating in the forestry/plantation sector, has a significant responsibility to ensure that its operational activities are not only profit-oriented but also contribute to sustainable development. This study aims to analyze the role of PT. PHI Balam's CSR in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the aspects of the environment, education, health, and community economic empowerment. The results of the study indicate that PT. PHI Balam's CSR has contributed to several SDGs indicators through community empowerment, environmental conservation, and social development programs, although continuous evaluation is needed to ensure their implementation is more focused and measurable. These programs make a significant contribution to the goals of the SDGs, including environmental preservation, improving community economic welfare, and community health and nutrition in the company's concession area. Through these concrete steps, PT. PHI Balam demonstrates a real commitment to realizing inclusive and effective sustainable development.

Abstract

Loading and unloading activities on ships are high-risk work activities because they involve heavy equipment, dynamic working conditions, and human factors. The incident that occurred on the MV. Red Rock vessel shows that there are still weaknesses in the implementation of work safety procedures. This study aims to analyze the factors causing work accidents and formulate safety optimization strategies in the loading and unloading process on the MV. Red Rock vessel. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach carried out during sea practice from August 7, 2024 to August 8, 2025. The study population included ship crew and stevedoring workers (TKBM), while the sample was determined by purposive sampling consisting of the captain, deck officers, crew members, and TKBM. Research instruments included observation sheets, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through data condensation, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and triangulation. The results of the study indicate that work accidents are caused by low human resource competency, inadequate equipment conditions, and non-compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Furthermore, miscommunication between ship and shore personnel and time pressures increase operational risks, while the implementation of safety meetings, regular equipment inspections, and strict supervision have been shown to improve occupational safety and reduce potential hazards. This study concludes that optimizing occupational safety on the MV Red Rock requires the implementation of integrated SOPs, ongoing training, and strengthened supervision to minimize workplace accidents during the loading and unloading process.

Abstract

Background: Maritime transportation plays a vital role in energy distribution, while tanker loading and unloading operations pose a risk of oil leaks that can damage coastal ecosystems and livelihoods. Objective: This study aims to identify the causes of spills during cargo transfers at MT. Sanana, assess the impact if the leak is not immediately addressed, and formulate practical preventive measures. Method: A qualitative case study was conducted during a 12-month sea practice (August 22, 2024–August 26, 2025). The population included operational personnel and ship documents, with purposive sampling for key informants (master, chief officer, second officer, third officer). Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies, analyzed using inductive thematic coding and triangulation. Results: It was found that the implementation of SOPs, the availability of oil spill kits, and routine maintenance were effective in mitigating small leaks; the main obstacles were worn gaskets and valves, procedural omissions, and suboptimal communication. Conclusion: Effective prevention requires synergy between technical maintenance, rigorous pre-operational checks, and ship-terminal coordination; Recommendations include replacing worn fittings, enforcing checklists, and regular simulation training. Limitations: single case study and participatory role of the researcher.
