In developing countries the necessity and the possibilities to manufacture machines locally are inc!easing. Often be necessary equipment, machines, material and the skilled labour as well as technical staff are available, but what is missing is the information and the know-how. One category of machines used to harness walet power and which can be produced locally, are water turbines. In some countries there is an established tradition in the production, installing and running of small water mills. Often these are units with simple vertical axis wheels or are large water wheels. For example, one country with experience on vertical axis water wheels.This research summarizes the simple calculations for designing a Pelton turbine with a head of water falling of 1130 m, with a discharge of Q = 28.5 m3/s, so that based on the calculations, a power of P = 288 MW is obtained.

Currently, the process of roasting peanuts in the North Tapanuli Regency area is still done manually. This will result in fatigue for the operator. To improve this condition, a roasting machine is needed to facilitate the roasting process. The peanut roaster machine that was designed in this study has a roasting tube as the main component with an electric motor as the prime mover. In addition there is a shaft, gearbox stirrer and clutch. The results of this design obtained power of prime mover and tube rotation of 1/2 hp and 28 rpm. The machine use a ceramic gas stove as heater. The experimental results show the machine can operate properly. The time needed to roast 10 kg of peanuts is 1 hour. BEP units obtained as much as 810 kg. The maintenance is carried out by cleaning and providing lubricant especially on the gearbox.

The Sukoharjo sub-district is one of the sub-districts in the city center, but the income of the population who are farm laborers reaches 1,485 people, and the others reach 1,883 people. In this village there are also 44 small industries engaged in the production of snacks. One of these small industries has formed a joint business group called KUBE "Sari Enak" which is currently still growing. This research was carried out by applying a dryer application aiming to provide an appropriate technology that is easy, cheap and efficient for the community. The method used in the application of this tool is the application of a rambak dryer and the provision of materials/theories regarding the technology of the rambak dryer. The results of community service activities in the form of this dryer application can save processing time in the process of drying sea fish crackers.

This study aims to determine the effect of temperature on the solid carburizing on increasing the hardness value of ST37 steel. This solid carburizing uses temperature variations of 9000C, 10000C and 11000C, with a holding time of 30 minutes. The material used is a mixture of CaCO3 and coconut shell charcoal with mineral water as a cooling medium. The test carried out was the Rockwell hardness test which was carried out in the Mechanical Engineering Materials Testing Lab of Politeknik Negeri Ketapang. From the test results for ST37 steel, the average hardness obtained in the raw material = 48.3 HRB, then in each carbonation treatment at a temperature of 9000C = 48.6 HRB, a temperature of 10000C = 48.9 HRB, a temperature of 11000C = 49.1 HRB. Carburized steel plates with a temperature of 9000C, 10000C and 11000C the test results are harder than the raw material.

Energi Surya adalah sumber energi yang tidak akan pernah habis ketersediaannya dan energi dapat di manfaatkan sebagai sumber energi alternatif yang akan di ubah menjadi energi listrik, dengan menggunakan sel surya. Pemanfaatan energi baru terbarukan dapat dikembangkan khususnya bagi nelayan yang sehari-hari berada di pesisir pantai dengan tingkat pencahayaan matahari yang sangat tinggi. Sehingga diperlukan perlengkapan yang dapat membantu nelayan untuk mempermudah aktifitas di kapal khususnya instalasi penerangan dengan memanfaatkan energi matahari. Pemanfaatan energi matahari digunakan pada sebuah kapal nelayan yang biasanya memakai bahan bakar minyak bumi, bertujuan untuk membantu nelayan dalam inovasi teknologi dan meminimalisir pemakaian minyak bumi sebagai bahan bakar pada kapal nelayan. Proses dan tahapan dalam rancang bangun pembangkit listrik tenaga surya di Kapal Nelayan didasari oleh permasalahan terkait mengenai keterbatasan sumber energi, sehingga pembangkit listrik tenaga surya dibuat sebagai alternatif untuk kebutuhan penerangan dan beban pada kapal nelayan. Dengan anggaran biaya Rp.2.240.000 bisa dibangun sebuah pembangkit listrik tenaga surya untuk instalasi penerangan dengan komponen-komponen yang digunakan solar cell 100 Wp, inverter dengan kapasitas 500 watt, solar charge controller kapasitas 10 A, baterai dengan kapasitas 12 V/50 Ah, lampu LED 10 watt sebanyak 3 buah, kabel NYM dengan ukuran 2 x 1,5 mm2, saklar tunggal dan MCB 2 dengan kapasitas 2 Ampere.

The reinforcing composition in hybrid composite can affect the material properties. Kenaf fiber (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) can be used as a reinforcement for hybrid composites with high advantage. Calcium carbonate serves as a reinforcement for composite materials and was useful for increasing stiffness. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of the addition of kenaf fiber and CaCO3 powder on the flexural strength and water absorption properties of the calcium carbonate reinforced kenaf fibers/polyester hybrid composites (PTJ/SK/CaCO3) made by hand layup method. Hybrid composites were made with various compositions of CaCO3 (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 10%, and 20% by weight). The results showed that the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 (5%wt) hybrid composite had the highest flexural strength with a value of 74.87 MPa. The increase in the amount of CaCO3 powder composition showed a decrease in the water absorption of the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 hybrid composite.

Hardenability is the ability of a material to be hardened to a certain depth by means of heat treatment to formmartensite in the cooling process to achieve a certain hardness. One of the hardenability testing methods is theJominy Test. The specimen is heated at the specified temperature, then cooled by spraying water at one end. Aftertesting with the Jominy test apparatus, its hardness was measured using the hardness test equipment.The testingof Jominy is based on ASTM standard A255. Testing using specimens with a length of 100 mm, diameter25.4 mm as much as 9 pieces. Hardness is measured by the Rockwell Hardness Test method. The test result onspecimen 1 with a final temperature of 700 °c resulted in an average hardness value of 45.51 HRB, on specimen9 with a final temperature of 1100 °c amounting to 47.32 HRB. The higher the end temperature of the heating,the hardness value produced will be relatively higher. The highest average hardness value is in specimen 7 witha heating temperature of 1000 °c by 47.48 HRB.

Low carbon steel has a wide use in the construction sector and is classified into steel that can be processed by machinery (machinery steel). The salient disadvantage of this material is the type of failure in the form of chipping, and breaking. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of belian and acacia wood charcoal on low carbon steel. This solid carburizing process uses a mixture of belian wood charcoal with calcium carbonate and acacia wood charcoal with calcium carbonate, and heattreatment at a temperature of 900oC, holding time of 30 minutes followed by quenching, with the Rockwell hardness test method. The test results show that the hardness of carbon steel that undergoes treatment is higher when compared to raw material of low carbon steel = 50.34HRB, where carburizing with acacia wood charcoal = 50.5HRB with a lower value when compared to belian wood charcoal = 50.94HRB. Judging from these results, the solid carburizing process with different types of charcoal will increase the hardness of low carbon steels.

PT. DLH Sukoharjo is a textile industry which is engaged in weaving. Observations were made on the Sucker Muller machine which often experienced jams on the cilynder drier, fan, beam stand and bearings and when the beam rotated it could not maximize production results. especially in the Weaving I section in the Sizing section. The problem that often occurs is the inefficient way of maintaining the sizing machine by the factory, which causes delays in the amount of production. In solving the problem, it is done by treating the muller sucker machine. The preventive maintenance method used for maintenance and repair as well as damage prevention. Based on the analysis, it was found that the Mean Time To Failure (M'I'I'F) of the Sucker Muller engine components was 6.63 hours and the Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) value was 573,531 hours. This can aid production and increase production of frequently damaged or faulty parts.
