Inkunabula: Journal of Library Science and Islamic Information adalah jurnal ilmiah yang diterbitkan oleh Jurusan Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi Islam, Universitas Islam Negeri Datokarama Palu pada tahun 2022. Abstract

This study investigates ICT skills and competencies as determinant to reading habit of LIS undergraduates in Kwara state university. The study adopted a Proportional stratified method, where the number of participants from each subgroup was determine by their number relatively to the entire population. The sample size of the study was 306 respondents which cut across all the levels of LIS students in Kwara State University. Data was collected using a questionnaire which was distributed to the 306 respondents in which all the copies of questionnaire were retrieved and used for the study. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count. The findings of the study were: word processing skills, spreadsheet skills and technical skills (maintenance) while on a contrary view minority disagreed with Software design skills and website design skills as the ICT skills that influence reading habit of LIS undergraduates. The study also found out that ICT is used for learning, mastering a range of assessment paradigins, and career development as ICT competencies that influence reading habit of LIS undergraduates. The study recommended that(i)Tertiary institutions offering LIS need to be provided with ICT facilities by the appropriate authorities to enhance the preparation of LIS students for the world of work. (ii)There should be a policy to ensure that all academic research study (project, thesis, dissertation, seminar, conference) are always presented in electronic form.

Abstract

Developing library collections is crucial to meeting users' information needs. This research aims to analyze the role of librarians in collection development at the Gowa Regency Public Library. The issues raised in this research are, how is the collection development process at the Gowa Regency Public Library Service Building and what is the role of librarians in collection development at the Gowa Regency Public Library Service Building. The research method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with six librarians, observation and documentation. Data analysis and processing techniques used data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results showed that the librarians have carried out their roles in the collection development process at the library, starting from analyzing user needs, selection and procurement of collections, to collection evaluation. The obstacles faced include limited collection development budgets and lack of human resource knowledge in managing collections. The recommendations given are increasing the allocation of collection development budgets and training for librarians. Abstrak Pengembangan koleksi perpustakaan penting untuk memenuhi kebutuhan informasi pemustaka. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran pustakawan dalam pengembangan koleksi di Perpustakaan Umum Kabupaten Gowa. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini yaitu, bagaimana proses pengembangan koleksi di Gedung Layanan Perpustakaan Umum Kab. Gowa dan Bagaimana peran pustakawan dalam pengembangan koleksi di Gedung Layanan Perpustakaan Umum Kab. Gowa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan enam orang pustakawan, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dan pengolahan data menggunakan reduksi data, penyajian data dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pustakawan telah melaksanakan perannya dalam proses pengembangan koleksi di perpustakaan tersebut, mulai dari analisis kebutuhan pemustaka, seleksi dan pengadaan koleksi, hingga evaluasi koleksi. Kendala yang dihadapi antara lain keterbatasan anggaran pengembangan koleksi dan minimnya pengetahuan SDM dalam mengelola koleksi. Rekomendasi yang diberikan yaitu peningkatan alokasi anggaran pengembangan koleksi dan pelatihan bagi pustakawan.

Abstract

The study investigated staff motivation as a determinant of job performance of library staff in selected academic libraries, Kwara state. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised of professional, para-professional and non-professional staff of the three selected academic libraries of 126. A total enumeration sampling technique was applied. A sample size of 126 respondents was used for the study. Questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. Data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages the response rate was 96.8%. The findings of the study revealed that a higher percentage of the respondents agreed that job security and mentoring motivate them to perform their job. Additionally, the findings of the study revealed that library staff members are best motivated when they are given the opportunity to use their ability. Also, on the level of motivation of library staff based on extrinsic motivators, job security is very high. Furthermore, the findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents agreed that improved quality of service to the user, punctuality at work, work efficiency and commitment to job are the major factors that increase level of job among library staff in academic libraries. In, addition, the study also found out that majority of the respondents agreed that library working conditions; poor staff welfare and poor communication structure are the major impediments to the motivation of library staff, but job insecurity does not impede the motivation of library staff. The study recommended that university management should endeavor to eliminate various impediments to library staff motivation.

Abstract

In a scientific work such as a journal article, the writing of keywords is an essential part of a scholarly publication. They are usually used to represent concepts or ideas in the writing. By using keywords, authors can reach a wider readership, and the information needed matches the readers' desires. The study of keyword trends in the Anuva journal aims to map the keywords in the articles, enabling more specific information retrieval. This research employs a qualitative descriptive analysis of data downloaded from the Anuva website (https://ejournal2.undip.ac.id/index.php/Anuva/), then processed using Microsoft Excel, and the data is displayed in tabular form and analyzed to produce conclusions that can generally be narrated in tables. The data used in the research spans from 2017 to 2022. The results show that Anuva has published 227 articles from 2017 to 2022. The highest number of articles was published in 2021, with 54 articles, and the lowest was in 2017, with 174 articles, with a total of 839 keywords. The most frequently used keywords are "Library" (15), "Information Literacy" (11), "Information Seeking Behavior" (5), and "Library and Information Science Research" (3). This indicates that Anuva: Journal of Cultural Studies, Library and Information publishes more articles in the library and information field than cultural studies, suggesting that the journal's focus and scope could become more specific. Abstrak Dalam sebuah karya ilmiah seperti artikel jurnal, penulisan kata kunci yang menjadi bagian penting dalam sebuah publikasi ilmiah. Biasanya digunakan sebagai perwakilan konsep atau ide/gagasan dalam tulisan. Dengan menggunakan kata kunci penulis mampu menjangkau pembaca yang lebih banyak dan informasi yang dibutuhkan sesuai dengan keinginan pembaca. Kajian tren kata kunci pada jurnal Anuva dengan tujuan untuk memetakan kata kunci pada artikel sehingga penelusuran informasi yang lebih spesifik. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif pada data yang diunduh dilaman website Anuva (https://ejournal2.undip.ac.id/index.php/Anuva/) kemudian diolah menggunakan microsoft excel dan data ditampilkan dalam bentuk tabel dan dianalisis sehingga menghasilkan kesimpulan yang secara umum dapat dinarasikan dalam tabel. Data yang digunakan pada penelitian mulai tahun 2017-2022. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa artikel yang diterbitkan Anuva sejak tahun 2017-2022 sebanyak 227 artikel. Artikel terbanyak yang telah diterbitkan pada tahun 2021 sebanyak 54 artikel dan paling sedikit tahun 2017 sebanyak 174 artikel dengan jumlah kata kunci secara keseluruhan sebanyak 839 kata kunci. Kata kunci yang paling banyak digunakan yakni “Perpustakaan” (15), “Literasi Informasi”(11), “Perilaku pencarian informasi”(5), dan “Penelitian ilmu perpustakaan dan informasi”(3). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Anuva: jurnal kajian budaya, perpustakaan dan informasi lebih banyak menerbitkan artikel bidang perpustakaan dan informasi dibandingkan dengan kajian budaya, sehingga focus dan scope jurnal bisa menjadi lebih spesifik.

Abstract

Citation analysis of Library and Information Science undergraduates’ research projects in Kwara State University, Malete (2013-2018). The population of the study consists of all the submitted undergraduates’ projects to the Department of Library and Information Science, Kwara State University, Malete from 2013-2018. From this population, a total of thirty-seven (37) final-year students’ projects of the Department were selected as the sample size of the study using the systematic sampling technique. Coding sheet was used to collect data. The frequency counts and simple percentages were used for the statistical analysis. The findings revealed that more than half of the citations in the projects were journal articles, one-third of the citations were conference papers, few of the citations were recent, there were no citations without author, and the highest number is seventy-seven (77) while the lowest citation in a project is eighteen (18). The following recommendations were made based on the findings. Final year students should be encouraged to consider more recent research for their projects, students should be advised cautioned against low citation as eighteen (18) in a research project, the university library should consider the acquisition and subscription to journals so as to aid the research of the students.

Abstract

The research explores the accessibility, utilisation, and perceived usefulness of library resources among undergraduates in Nigeria, aiming to enhance their study habits. Conducted through a survey with 410 undergraduates from three universities offering library and information science programs, data was collected via questionnaires and analysed descriptively and inferentially. Findings revealed predominant usage of library resources via the university library, departmental library, and electronic databases, including journals, OPAC, textbooks, databases and projects/theses. Students acknowledged the usefulness of these resources in research projects, knowledge acquisition, learning quality, and assignments. Common study habits encompassed post-lecture review, utilising breaks for study, minimizing distractions and prioritise academic commitments over social activities. Statistical analyses showcased significant correlations and indicated that independent variables collectively influenced 48.3% of observed variations in study habits. Ultimately, the study suggests that leveraging accessible, useful library resources could enhance undergraduates' study habits and foster academic success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of library automation at SMPN 10 Jakarta in the Society 5.0 era using the Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS). A qualitative research method with a case study approach was employed, involving direct observation and semi-structured interviews with librarians and the head librarian of SMPN 10 Jakarta. Observations were conducted during two visits in March 2024. The results indicate that the implementation of SLiMS enhanced the library's operational efficiency, particularly in collection management and circulation service quality. The increased speed and accuracy of circulation transactions contributed to improved user satisfaction. Enhanced information accessibility through the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) facilitated user autonomy in information retrieval. Primary challenges included technical constraints and limited librarian understanding, which were addressed through intensive training and ongoing support. In conclusion, the application of library automation at SMPN 10 Jakarta has positively impacted the teaching-learning process and students' literacy development, aligning with the demands of the Society 5.0 era. This research contributes to the development of an automation implementation model that can be adapted by other school libraries in Indonesia. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi automasi perpustakaan pada SMPN 10 Jakarta di Era Society 5.0 menggunakan Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, melibatkan observasi langsung dan wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan pustakawan dan kepala pustakawan SMPN 10 Jakarta. Observasi dilakukan dalam dua kunjungan pada bulan Maret 2024. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi SLiMS meningkatkan efisiensi operasional perpustakaan, terutama dalam pengelolaan koleksi dan kualitas layanan sirkulasi. Peningkatan kecepatan dan akurasi transaksi sirkulasi berkontribusi pada peningkatan kepuasan pengguna. Peningkatan aksesibilitas informasi melalui OPAC memfasilitasi kemandirian pengguna dalam penelusuran informasi. Tantangan utama meliputi kendala teknis dan keterbatasan pemahaman pustakawan, yang diatasi melalui pelatihan intensif dan pendampingan berkelanjutan. Kesimpulannya, penerapan automasi perpustakaan di SMPN 10 Jakarta memberikan dampak positif pada proses belajar-mengajar dan pengembangan literasi siswa, sejalan dengan tuntutan era Society 5.0. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan model implementasi automasi yang dapat diadaptasi oleh perpustakaan sekolah lain di Indonesia.

Abstract

The study was conducted on the medical students’ satisfaction with references services in Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria, while the data collected for the study were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage. Observation was used to determine the types of reference services and it was found that five (5) out of seven (7) reference services are provided in the library. these include CAS, user educator, Reprographic services, select dissemination of information, computerized reference sources and it was discovered that purpose of using reference section is that it enhancing the use of the resources and services of the library, it save precious time of the readers, supporting research and learning, leisure and recreation and it helps readers in locating the sources of information relevant to their needs, the study further discovered that referral services, Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) Current awareness services, and Photocopying services that are used on a daily basis while it also discovered that inability of reference librarians to utilize new technologies to provide reference services, lack of policy implementation, lack of policy implementation, inadequate qualified staff and poor internet connectivity were the major problems affecting the provision of reference services. In conclusion the study made some recommendations which include that: management of the libraries should look toward the implementation of other medium of reference service delivery which has not been implemented in their libraries and there should be constant training and retraining of library personnel in the reference section to upskill and learn the new method of reference service delivery; and Library policies must be updated regularly.

Abstract

This study examines promotional strategies aimed at enhancing engagement and accessibility at the University of Megarezky Makassar Library. Against the backdrop of challenges in increasing participation and utilization of library services, this research identifies various effective approaches to expand reach and improve user engagement. The methods employed include leveraging digital technologies, such as social media and library applications, as well as organizing promotional activities involving the academic community. The results of these strategies demonstrate that an integrated and responsive approach not only increases user awareness of library services but also facilitates access to information resources. These findings provide valuable insights for developing more effective promotional strategies, with the aim of optimizing engagement and accessibility for all users within the university environment. Abstrak Penelitian ini membahas strategi promosi untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan dan aksesibilitas di Perpustakaan Universitas Megarezky Makassar. Dengan latar belakang tantangan dalam meningkatkan partisipasi dan pemanfaatan layanan perpustakaan, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi berbagai pendekatan efektif untuk memperluas jangkauan dan meningkatkan keterlibatan pengguna. Metode yang diterapkan meliputi pemanfaatan teknologi digital, seperti media sosial dan aplikasi perpustakaan, serta penyelenggaraan kegiatan promosi yang melibatkan komunitas akademik. Hasil dari strategi ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan yang terintegrasi dan responsif tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran pengguna tentang layanan perpustakaan tetapi juga mempermudah akses ke sumber daya informasi. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan berharga untuk pengembangan strategi promosi yang lebih efektif, dengan harapan dapat mengoptimalkan keterlibatan dan aksesibilitas bagi seluruh pengguna di lingkungan universitas.

Abstract

The study examined the perception and utilization of indigenous knowledge books on research productivity among LIS lecturers in kwara state. It adopted descriptive survey design and population for this study consists of all LIS lecturers in five selected University in Kwara State. The target population for this study is 57 lecturers in the department of library and information science. Hence, total enumerative sampling technique was adopted. Questionnaire was used as data collection instrument and percentages and mean are used in analyzing data. The study revealed that majority of the lecturers in kwara state have a positive perception of indigenous knowledge books with the option of it is important to improve research productivity. Also, it revealed that indigenous knowledge books are important to improve research productivity to a high extent. It further revealed that indigenous knowledge books promote users/researchers confidence and it brings together different materials on the same subject. Lastly, no up to date materials, poor library instruction are some of the major challenges LIS lecturers encounter while using indigenous knowledge books for their research productivity. The study concluded with recommendations such as University management should ensure that necessary facilities that enhance high level of utilization of indigenous knowledge books are adequately provided and Lecturers should be regularly informed of newly acquired Indigenous book.
