Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sacred aesthetics of the Bedhaya Ketawang Dance as a medium for connecting humans and the spiritual world in Javanese culture. The study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were obtained from books, journals, and previous research related to Nusantara aesthetics, Javanese spirituality, and traditional ritual dance. The results show that the sacred aesthetics of the Bedhaya Ketawang Dance are reflected through gentle, slow, and harmonious dance movements and performance symbols that contain spiritual values. The dancer's body functions as both an artistic and symbolic medium, presenting the human relationship with the transcendental world. Performance elements such as floor patterns, the number of dancers, costumes, and gamelan accompaniment shape the aesthetic and spiritual experience in Javanese culture. Thus, the Bedhaya Ketawang Dance is not only an artistic performance but also a representation of human harmony with the spiritual world. Keywords: sacred aesthetics, Bedhaya Ketawang, Javanese spirituality, dance

Abstract

The Muaro Jambi Temple National Cultural Heritage Area is one of the largest historical sites in Southeast Asia. This study examines the cultural tourism potential there, including its history, customs, traditional games, socio-cultural life, and local cuisine. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature review, then analyzed interpretively. The findings of this study indicate that Muaro Jambi Temple is not only an archaeological site, but also a living space for the community, upholding traditional Jambi Malay values. Local customs and traditions are still maintained. Traditional games are still played by children and adults, and traditional culinary delights are still served in homes and at traditional events. These elements coexist with tourism activities, not as additional decorations. This situation confirms that Muaro Jambi Temple has strong potential to become an educational cultural tourism destination while preserving the heritage still practiced by the community daily.

Abstract

The learning of the Stage Production course in the PBSI Study Program at Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa faces challenges in preparing students as beginner actors, particularly in integrating theoretical understanding with acting practice. This research aims to explore strategies for developing beginner actors through the combination of basic training and performance preparation within the framework of the Teaching Practitioner Program. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this research positions the researcher as the primary instrument to capture learning dynamics holistically through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of 30 students from the Stage Production class and the course lecturer, with data analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the synergy between the training phase (body training, vocal training, emotional training) and the rehearsal phase (reading text, cut-to-cut, run through) significantly builds students' performative readiness. The presence of practitioners strengthens this process by introducing professional theater working methods, which impact the improvement of discipline, collaborative abilities, and students' understanding of the complex theater production ecosystem. In conclusion, the integrative model between basic training and performance preparation within the Teaching Practitioner Program effectively develops beginner actors who are not only technically skilled but also possess collective awareness and strong character, while offering significant contributions to the development of performing arts education curricula in higher education institutions.

Abstract

Wayang kulit is a traditional performing art. Traditional performances that serve as entertainment, and also serve as a medium for conveying moral values and cultural education. One of the stories often performed in wayang kulit performances is the Ramayana story. A love story of Dewi Sinta and Sri Rama who were separated by King Rahwana. An inspiring story that contains the meaning of true loyalty, therefore I conducted a study aimed at analyzing the performing art of the Ramayana story in wayang kulit performances in Sarimulya Village, Jujuhan Ilir District, Bungo Regency, Jambi Province. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation with the main informant, puppeteer Ki Gondo Sumarno who leads the Wiyogo Sari Budaya Karawitan Studio. Data were processed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that wayang kulit performances in Sarimulya Village are still preserved through the activities of the Wiyogo Sari Budaya Studio which was founded in 1988. The puppeteer has an important role in driving the story, conveying character dialogue, and arranging the musical accompaniment of the gamelan. The Ramayana story was chosen because it contains moral values such as loyalty, responsibility, and the triumph of good over evil. Thus, the shadow puppet performance serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for cultural and moral education for the community.
