Abstract

Malaysia is one of the countries that pay special attention to the tourism sector. Its development is so rapid that modern places that so historically appear, have their concepts and different characteristics, ranging from buildings to magnificent urban areas that attract tourists to visit there, including the UNU Surakarta Campus. So the purpose of this study is to describe Benchmarking and Exploring Educational Tourism activities in Malaysia. The method used is qualitative with a field study approach, then the data is collected from 12-15 February 2023, followed by analyzing the contents and finally drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that Benchmarking and Exploring Educational Tourism in Malaysia include four stages, namely the preparation stage by formulating goals, preparing plans, and preparing the infrastructure, then the socialization stage, namely by discussing with students the rundown of the event, how long it will be there and what matters only what must be prepared, then the implementation stage is by visiting the Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur Indonesian School, Genting Highland, Christ Church, Flor de la Mar Ship, Universiti Melaka to the Putra Jaya Mosque. And finally is the evaluation stage, namely requiring students to compile reports in the form of scientific work.

Abstract

The research was aimed at finding out whether or not using animated short story was effective to improve the students’ achievement, to create students’ joyfulness in writing classroom and whether or not students’ joyfulness have a correlation with students’ writing achievement. The research was carried out under the quantitative paradigm with quasi experimental design. Class VIII/1 and Class VIII/2 were chosen as the samples of this research obtained through cluster sampling technique from the population that consisted of 56 students. The data of the students’ writing ability were collected by using writing test and questionnaire. The data collected were then analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS 20.0 program. The research result showed that using animated short story was more effective than unanimated story in improving the students’ writing achievement. It’s seen from the significance t-test result that reveals the significance value is lower than the significance.

Abstract

The research aims to show the use of pictures to teach simple present tense sentence construction to English young learners. It is important to teach sentence construction to young learners because young learners must begin to make their selves familiar with constructing sentences before they develop and improve their English to the next levels. The method used in conducting this research was Systematic Review to determine the use of pictures in teaching simple sentence construction to English young learners. There were 10 articles from year 2010 – 2022 related to the titles analyzed by the researcher by using Systematic Review. As the result of the research, it is concluded that teaching English using pictures enable young learners to construct simple sentences in English.

Abstract

For teaching and learning process today, especially since the Covid-19, teachers rely more on technology as a medium or learning tool. One of the main problems that arise in learning English as a foreign language or second language for the young learners is vocabulary. Besides, in the area of ​​research, English is taught in not all primary schools. So, it becomes hard for the students to learn English when they come to Junior High School. The lack of vocabulary of the 7th grade student of SMP Negeri 1 Kauditan is the reason for the writer to raise vocabulary as a problem for the young learners that must be found a way out. For this reason, Bitmoji Application are used in this study to be used as interactive and interesting learning media for young learners so it is hoped that it will help them master vocabulary more quickly and easily. In this study, 30 students of 7th grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kauditan were the participants. This is qualitative research and the results of this study are expected to help teachers in the classroom in teaching vocabulary.

Abstract

Hegemony is a dominance treatment from one to another. This article tried to compare women’s resistance against hegemony from novels. Lasiyah, the protagonist in Bekisar Merah, and Hester Prynne, the protagonist in The Scarlet Letter, both encountered oppressive hegemonic values from their patriarchal societies, namely Javanese and Puritans. Using Hegemony and Comparative Literature theories, this research reveals the two protagonists' resistance to hegemonic values, which caused them to become new people with new personalities and identities. They were also reborn. Both women were motivated by similar factors, such as pride and dignity, to engage resistance. Women, who are generally regarded as weak and powerless, are, in fact, strong and powerful.

Abstract

In this era of technology, it helped us to easily get the other interesting learning media when the textbook become bored, especially through this pandemic of Covid 19. Most of learners want improvement of their language skills in their learning process, novel could be the interesting and powerful booster. This systematic review aims to examine the effectiveness of using novels in learning process to improve the language skills in English with showed the benefit and the weakness or problem that may encounter while using novel, and also the solution to optimize the use of novel in learning process. Previous research study about Novel in ELT published 2009 to 2021. Eleven previous studies were included and reviewed in terms: context, focus, and main findings. Result showed that mostly learner’s language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in English are increased. Novel also can improve grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, social culture, critical thinking, personal growth, motivation and foster student- centre learning. This systematic review could help learners and teacher to consider the novel as a learning media that could be included in learning process to improve their language skills in English. For the future researcher, this systematic review could be another reference to improve the research about novel in ELT, especially the right and reliable solution to face the lack of novel when apply in ELT.

Abstract

The potential of local literature as a source of language learning which is rich, vibrant, and more spontaneous to teach and as a medium to develop literacy as well as to instil local values is overlooked in teaching English in Indonesia including teaching English for young learners. This study intended to understand how local literature can using in integrated skills of teaching English. This study also discusses the incorporation of local cultural material in a teaching material developed for the students. In this article, the writer focus only on systematic review from some article that related to local literature in integrated skills of teaching English. Finally this article reviews the past and current approaches to teaching literature in language teaching classes. Through local literature the writer hopes to improve students' abilities in reading, listening, writing and speaking skills, all of which are summarized in an integrated skills approach.
