Abstract

Pariaman City, located along the Semangko fault line and the subduction zone of the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates, is highly vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis. The region's susceptibility to large earthquakes, followed by vertical deformations, highlights the need for effective disaster mitigation. In response, this study proposes the development of the Earthquake Buddy Application (EDY App), designed to assist with earthquake mitigation efforts. The EDY App leverages Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to map earthquake-prone areas, provide early warnings, suggest evacuation routes and Temporary Evacuation Sites (TES), and facilitate aid distribution. This Android-based mobile application focuses on four key aspects: education, mitigation, evacuation, and donation. Key features include an Earthquake Vulnerability Map, real-time early warnings, mitigation instructions, TES recommendations with distance and time estimations, emergency contact options, and donation channels. Built with React Native, PHP, and MySQL, and integrated with Google Maps API, the app is designed to be user-friendly and accessible to the public. The EDY App’s contribution to earthquake mitigation lies in its ability to create a disaster-aware community. By offering comprehensive information and support during critical moments, the app can potentially reduce casualties and enhance community preparedness in earthquake-prone regions like Pariaman. Through this innovation, it is expected that residents will be better equipped to respond to natural disasters, promoting a culture of safety and resilience.

Abstract

This research examines the legal protection for consumers in cases involving the use of exoneration clauses by transportation services, specifically focusing on PO Rosalia Indah's bus service. Exoneration clauses, which limit a company's liability in the event of theft or loss of goods, raise significant concerns regarding consumer rights. This study evaluates whether such clauses comply with Indonesia’s Consumer Protection Law and identifies the legal remedies available to consumers affected by such provisions. The research employs a normative juridical method, analyzing legal texts, including Law No. 8/1999 on Consumer Protection and relevant court rulings, to determine the legality and enforceability of exoneration clauses in transportation agreements. Data were collected through literature reviews of legal documents, journals, and cases related to consumer protection in transportation services. The results indicate that the exoneration clauses used by PO Rosalia Indah violate the principles outlined in the Consumer Protection Law, particularly Article 18, which prohibits businesses from including provisions that reduce consumer rights. It was also found that consumers have the right to pursue compensation through litigation or non-litigation mechanisms, such as the Consumer Dispute Settlement Agency (BPSK). The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing legal frameworks and ensuring that consumer rights are adequately protected in transportation service agreements.

Abstract

Predatory digital lending poses significant challenges to the sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. This study explores the reasons, consequences, and impacts of predatory digital loans on MSMEs, focusing on how these practices hinder economic well-being and growth. The research employs a qualitative method, utilizing content analysis from secondary sources, including academic journals, reports, and government documents. Data were collected through an in-depth review of literature and case studies of MSMEs affected by predatory loans. The findings reveal that many MSMEs, particularly in rural areas, lack sufficient financial literacy, which increases their vulnerability to predatory lending. Legal frameworks, such as POJK 35/POJK.05/2018, are inadequate in regulating debt collection ethics, allowing illegal practices to flourish. Additionally, gender disparities affect loan approval rates, with female borrowers facing higher risks of harassment. The study concludes that improving financial literacy, strengthening government regulations, and fostering collaboration between MSMEs, government bodies, and financial institutions are essential for protecting MSMEs from predatory digital lending. By doing so, MSMEs can achieve sustainable growth and contribute more effectively to Indonesia's economic development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

This research aims to identify the influence of job demands and job resources on turnover intention, with work engagement as a mediating variable at PT Prinal. The retail industry faces high turnover rates, posing a significant challenge at PT Prinal despite the industry's enormous potential. The study involved 250 employees of PT Prinal, using a non-probability sampling technique. Analysis was conducted with SmartPLS v4.1.0.5, utilizing Partial Least Square (PLS) and Structural Equation Model (SEM) techniques to test the hypotheses. The findings show that greater job expectations dramatically reduce employee engagement and increase the likelihood of leaving the position. The job demands at PT Prinal are generally counterproductive, as demonstrated by how they diminish employee engagement. On the other hand, more excellent job resources considerably raise employee engagement at work and lower the intention to leave. Since job demands and job resources directly affect turnover intention, work engagement plays a role in mediating the interaction between these three variables. These results highlight how crucial it is to manage job expectations and resources to boost work engagement and increase employee retention.

Abstract

Global climate change has become an urgent issue affecting land quality, especially forest areas. Forests are important in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon and storing greenhouse gases. Community forests, which are managed by communities on private land, have great potential to reduce carbon emissions. However, community forest management is still suboptimal due to limited knowledge of the application of effective silvicultural techniques. This study aims to provide recommendations for community forest management by intensifying silvicultural techniques, such as plant spacing and plant species selection, to reduce fire risk and support climate change mitigation. The method used was a systematic review of 30 relevant scientific articles. The literature used came from books and national and international journal articles accessed through Google Scholar, Springer and ScienceDirect databases. Articles were selected through a selection process based on the relevance of the title, abstract, and overall content. The results showed that a planting distance of 4×4 meters or 4×3 meters is the most optimal for tree growth and allows the implementation of an agroforestry system. In addition, plant species such as Swietenia macrophylla and Gliricidia sepium proved effective as fire barriers due to their evergreen characteristics that can reduce the amount of litter as fire fuel. In conclusion, intensive silvicultural techniques can increase the effectiveness of community forest management in sequestering carbon, reducing the risk of forest fires, and supporting climate change mitigation efforts. This research provides recommendations that community forest managers can apply to improve environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an agricultural country with abundant natural resources, still faces the problem of poverty in various regions, especially in West Papua. The high poverty rate in this area is related to the low access to education, food security, and proper economic resources. In an effort to address these issues, the Integrated Farming System (IFS) is considered a potential solution to improve community welfare and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets. This study aims to identify the benefits, challenges and opportunities of IFS implementation in Tambrauw Regency, West Papua, with a focus on its contribution to the achievement of the five SDGs targets, including poverty and hunger alleviation, and improvement of quality of life and environment. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative study through literature review and secondary data analysis. Data were taken from various sources such as scientific journals, books, and official documents relevant to the research topic. The results show that the implementation of IFS in Tambrauw has the potential to increase agricultural and livestock productivity, create new jobs, and promote sustainable food production. In addition, the use of organic fertilizers and a holistic approach can have a positive impact on the environment and local communities. IFS is an effective program in supporting the achievement of SDGs through empowerment of local communities and sustainable use of existing resources. However, further support in the form of technological innovation and sustainable government policies are needed to ensure the long-term success of this program.
