Abstract

The Wates Religious Court's decision in case number 84/Pdt.G/2022/PA.WT ruled not to appoint a non-Muslim substitute heir from the first wife's lineage due to their Christian faith, as per Islamic inheritance law, which prohibits non-Muslims from inheriting. This study examines the judge's reasoning and considers the values of justice, legal certainty, and legal utility. Using an empirical juridical approach supported by library and field research, the study finds that the judge's decision aligns with the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), particularly Article 171 letter (c), which prohibits non-Muslims from inheriting. However, the judge could have utilized the Supreme Court Jurisprudence No. 1/Yur/Ag/2018 to allow for a mandatory will and made a legal discovery by interpreting the Civil Code more extensively. While the decision adheres to legal certainty under Islamic law, it does not align with the principles of justice or legal utility, nor does it reflect the legal certainty found in the Civil Code and Supreme Court jurisprudence.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between leisure activity (LA) and life satisfaction (LS) to understand the factors that contribute to the well-being of Generation Z. The research subjects consisted of 159 Generation Z individuals who enjoy staycations and were analyzed using the Leisure Satisfaction Scale and the Satisfaction with Life Scale through a correlational quantitative approach. The data analysis technique used was Spearman’s rho correlation because the data were not normally distributed. The results indicate a positive and significant relationship between the two variables, with a correlation coefficient of (). These findings suggest that the higher the quality and frequency of leisure activities, the higher the level of life satisfaction experienced by the participants. Therefore, leisure activity and staycations are proven to be important elements in maintaining the subjective well-being of Generation Z. This study is expected to raise public awareness of the importance of leisure time to enhance life satisfaction.

Abstract

This study examines procedural failures in the imposition of the death penalty on a child that was later commuted to imprisonment, as reflected in the Decision of the Gunungsitoli District Court Number 8/Pid.B/2013/PN-GST and the Supreme Court Judicial Review Decision Number 96 PK/Pid/2016. The central issue of this research lies in the erroneous verification of the defendant’s age, which resulted in a child being treated as an adult and sentenced to death, contrary to Law Number 11 of 2012 on the Juvenile Criminal Justice System and the principles of child protection. This research aims to analyze the procedural failure, explain its juridical and ethical implications, and critically assess practices of dehumanization in juvenile criminal law through the existentialist perspectives of Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. The study employs a normative legal research method with a qualitative approach, utilizing statutory, case, and legal philosophy approaches, supported by library research on court decisions and existentialist literature. The findings indicate that an excessively formalistic and positivistic application of law has negated the recognition of children as human subjects in the process of becoming, resulting in procedural and existential injustice. This research concludes that child protection in criminal law cannot be understood merely in normative terms but must be grounded in ethical and existential awareness to realize a more humanistic juvenile criminal justice system.

Abstract

Childbirth is the process of expelling the products of conception through the birth canal or with medical assistance. Vaginal delivery may result in perineal rupture due to tearing of the birth canal tissues, which can contribute to maternal morbidity and increase the risk of maternal mortality. Several factors are associated with the occurrence of perineal rupture, including neonatal birth weight, maternal age, and parity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parity and the incidence of perineal rupture. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between parity and the incidence of perineal rupture. These findings indicate that parity alone may not be a determining factor in the occurrence of perineal rupture during vaginal delivery, and that other factors may play a more important role.

Abstract

Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP) represents one of the rarest forms of soft tissue tumors, with an annual occurrence estimated at only 0.008 to 0.045 cases per 100,000 individuals. This rare, slow-growing but locally aggressive skin sarcoma often presents with subtle clinical features, leading to delayed diagnosis and management, particularly in resource-limited settings. In this report, we describe a case of DFSP that presented to a rural healthcare facility with delayed presentation. A 37-year-old woman was referred to the general surgery clinic with an enlarging lump in the calf of her left leg that had been present for the past 20 years. The lump had gradually increased in size and was initially painless. One month prior to hospitalization, the lesion became frequently painful, bled intermittently, and discharged pus. A wide excisional biopsy was performed, and the specimen was sent for histopathological analysis. The conclusion of the histopathological analysis was consistent with DFSP. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of DFSP in resource-limited settings, where limited access to specialized diagnostic services, lack of awareness among primary healthcare providers, and financial constraints contribute to diagnostic delays. A long-standing lesion remained indolent before progressing to symptomatic disease, emphasizing the need for increased clinical vigilance in rural healthcare facilities. Early recognition and appropriate management are essential to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of soft and technical skills in determining the employability of new graduates by addressing three main questions: which soft skills are most influential, which technical skills are most needed, and which skills dominate based on global evidence. A narrative literature review design was employed, with systematic searches of eight academic databases (Scopus, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, SAGE, Elsevier, Elicit, and SINTA) conducted during October–November 2024. Following a rigorous screening process, 25 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 and focusing on final-year students or recent graduates (within 1–3 years post-graduation) were selected for analysis. The study revealed that employability is shaped by a balance of technical competence and adaptive ability, aligning with the employability framework as a psychosocial construct. Soft skills—such as communication, collaboration, self-management, and problem-solving—were found to be more dominant in facilitating graduates' adaptation and early performance. Meanwhile, technical skills served as a prerequisite for entry-level positions. The study also highlighted differences in skill requirements between STEM and non-STEM fields: STEM fields prioritized technical expertise, while non-STEM fields focused more on interpersonal skills. The findings suggest that integrating both soft and technical skills through project-based, experiential, and work-integrated learning is the most effective strategy to enhance job readiness. The practical implications stress the importance of designing higher education curricula that balance technical competence with character and social skills, ensuring graduates are adaptive and competitive in the job market.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that requires long-term self-management and sustainable treatment efforts to prevent complications, reduce the risk of morbidity, and improve the patient's quality of life. One of the important psychosocial concepts in diabetes management is Perceived Behavior Control (PBC), which is an individual's perception of one's ability to control health behaviors related to glycemic control, decision-making, and problem-solving. The analysis of this concept was carried out through a review of the latest literature on the determinants of PBC. The results of the analysis showed that PBC was influenced by internal and external factors such as knowledge, psychological conditions, family and health worker support, health insurance, culture and spirituality, communication, clinical conditions, and self-efficacy. PBC plays a major role in the success of patients managing their diet, engaging in physical activity, adhering to medication, monitoring glucose levels, and overcoming barriers in self-management. The consequences of good PBC include increased healthy behaviors, decreased complications, improved quality of life, and decreased health care costs. Thus, a deep understanding of PBC is essential to develop effective self-management interventions for diabetic patients.
