Abstract

The objective of the study is to explore the Marriott International Core Values through Critical Discourse Analysis. The data is taken from Marriott official website, and students’ interview. The data was then analyzed based on Fairclough’s three-dimensional model which covers text, discourse practice and social practice. The findings of the study highlight that Marriott’s core values have the power to motivate both management and associates to provide exceptional service to customers, the community, and the entire world. The core values benefit not only those inside Marriott's company but also the external stakeholders, especially its customers. This study underscores the significance of core values in shaping organizational culture and behavior. It implies that well-articulated core values can serve as a strategic tool to enhance employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and overall brand reputation. Organizations may adopt similar analytical approaches to assess and refine their core values, ensuring alignment with internal and external goals for sustainable growth and success.

The qualitative approach allows for a deep understanding of the region’s social and material realities, while the descriptive method systematically illustrates current events, conditions, and opportunities within the historical tourism sector. The research highlights the importance of local stories and narratives in enriching the visitor experience and differentiating West Sumatra as a historical tourism destination. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the critical role of collaboration between government bodies, local communities, and tourism practitioners in achieving sustainable tourism development. Integrating both visible and intangible resources, especially human capital, is crucial for crafting a compelling and resilient tourism strategy. Abstract

This article discusses the complex relationship between language and philosophy, focusing on the weaknesses of language and the role of analytic philosophy in epistemology. The main problems raised include the ambiguity of language, its limitations in conveying abstract concepts, and its impact on philosophical thought. This research uses a qualitative method through content analysis and literature studies of the works of philosophers such as Wittgenstein, Russell, and Gettier, as well as a hermeneutic approach to interpreting texts contextually. It aims to examine how language affects philosophical understanding and how analytic philosophy seeks to address the weaknesses of language through logical and semantic analysis. The results show that language, although vital in communication and the construction of reality has limitations such as ambiguity and dependence on context. Analytic philosophy plays a role in clarifying meaning, analyzing concepts, and overcoming misunderstandings through an epistemological approach. This article suggests the need for further research on language in the context of digital technologies and the integration of language philosophy into the educational curriculum to enrich cross-disciplinary understanding. Implicitly, collaborations with cognitive sciences and sociology can provide new insights into the dynamics of language and thought.

Abstract

It is generally agreed that oral communication skill is given more priority in teaching ESP for tourism compared with written one, and so is it in Poltekpar Bali (Bali Tourism Polytechnic) that educates and trains students to work or become entrepreneurs in the fields of tourism. Therefore, oral assessment becomes crucial. However, conducting this using the most common technique (i.e. one-by-one interview) takes plenty of time. This study was to find out an efficient technique for assessing oral communication skill in ESP class at Poltekpar Bali. It was an empirical classroom action research that was based on a collection of experiences and observations continuously reviewed and developed by the teachers. It was found that group oral test was an efficient technique, in which a group of students of 4 to 6 was provided with a card containing a situation relevant to their vocational subjects. They had to discuss it for about 10 minutes. Through unobtrusive listening to the discussion, the teacher carried out the assessment. This article shows how to design ‘situation cards’ and provides several examples of the cards. It also describes the procedures to be followed in handling the test, including the stages before, during, and after the implementation. Furthermore, it suggests some tips when the discussion during the test is stuck or does not work.

Abstract

This study investigates the combined effects of residents’ use of native languages and tourists’ mindfulness on perceived authenticity and overall satisfaction in multilingual tourism destinations. Using a sample of 281 tourists, data were collected via a structured survey. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) evaluated the hypothesized relationships. The findings reveal that residents’ use of native languages significantly enhances tourists’ perceptions of authenticity, which, in turn, positively impacts satisfaction. Furthermore, mindfulness moderates the effects of native language use on perceived authenticity, highlighting its role in shaping authentic experiences. These results underscore the importance of cultural preservation through native language use in fostering meaningful and satisfying tourist experiences. This study provides actionable insights for tourism stakeholders, emphasizing the balance between cultural authenticity and tourist engagement to enhance destination competitiveness.

Abstract

This study examined the issue of digital inclusivity and inequality in language education, particularly in the context of developing countries such as Indonesia. The problem of digital inequality was identified as multidimensional, encompassing disparities in access to infrastructure, digital skills, and equitable representation of linguistic and cultural diversity. A literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach was employed, drawing on journal articles, UNESCO reports, books, and policy documents to analyze key concepts, manifestations of inequality, and inclusive strategies. The findings indicated that digital inequality significantly affected students’ opportunities in acquiring language skills, leading to achievement gaps, exclusion of marginalized groups, and limited development of 21st-century competencies. Case studies such as Indonesia’s Rumah Belajar, Learning Equality’s Kolibri, and the Talking Book program in Africa demonstrated that inclusive, context-sensitive, and community-based approaches effectively reduced barriers by integrating low-tech solutions, multilingual content, and universal design principles. These results suggested that sustainable solutions require not only technological innovation but also policy support, cross-sector collaboration, and community participation. Therefore, inclusivity must be established as the foundation of digital language education to ensure equitable access, strengthen linguistic diversity, and promote social justice in the digital era.
