Abstract

Background: Hospitalization anxiety is an emotional response that arises when children experience fear, discomfort, or stress during hospital care. Digital storytelling therapy is a non-pharmacological technique that can help reduce anxiety levels, especially during vital signs examination. Purpose: To determine the effect of digital storytelling therapy on reducing anxiety levels in preschool children during vital signs examination in the Melati Ward of Sleman Regional Public Hospital. Method: This study employed a case study design involving a preschool-aged child (An. A) who experienced hospitalization anxiety. Anxiety levels were measured using the (DASS-42), which was completed by the parent based on observations of the child’s behavioral and emotional responses during vital signs examination. Instrument adaptation was conducted by adjusting the DASS statements into behavioral indicators of anxiety in preschool children, including crying, tense facial expressions, restlessness, refusal of procedures, and the level of cooperation during examination. Result: The results of the case study showed a decrease in anxiety levels after the implementation of digital storytelling therapy. The anxiety score on the first day was 12 (moderate anxiety), which decreased to 8 (mild anxiety) on the second day and to 4 (mild anxiety) on the third day. Conclusion: Digital storytelling therapy is effective in reducing hospitalization anxiety in preschool-aged children.

Abstract

Background: Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall human health. The WHO reported that more than 700 million people worldwide experienced mental disorders in 2020, with depression and anxiety being the most common. Mental health is a multidimensional issue that requires comprehensive interventions, ranging from government policies and public education to capacity building for health workers. Methods: This research method uses descriptive analytic. The study instrument was used to collect primary data from various community health centers and sub-districts throughout Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY). Secondary data was also obtained from all health and social service offices.  Focus group discussions (FGDs) were also conducted with community health center and sub-district officers. A total of 53 respondents to obtain direct information regarding mental health services in each region. The study was conducted for approximately two months, from October 10, 2025, to December 10, 2025.  Quantitative descriptive analysis was used in this study. Results: Most regions lack adequate mental health service facilities, including the availability of necessary facilities and infrastructure. Each district/city in Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) has a relatively similar pattern of vulnerable groups dominating. Vulnerable groups at the sub-district level are not evenly distributed. The concentration of certain groups in specific areas underscores the importance of a spatial targeting approach in social welfare program planning. Based on the average score, Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta City are in the Good category, while Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunungkidul Regencies are in the Fair category. Conclusion: Strengthening synergy between agencies (sub-districts and sub-districts/kemantren) and collaborating with the community are crucial to addressing these vulnerable groups at risk of mental health problems. A data-driven approach and periodic territorial-based evaluations will determine more adaptive health service policies to the community's mental health conditions.

Abstract

Adolescent-friendly reproductive health services have become a central priority in global and national health policies. However, utilization of these services by adolescent girls remains relatively low, even where programs and facilities are available. This condition indicates the presence of inequalities that are not fully captured by conventional indicators of service access. This article aims to critically examine scientific literature published over the past seven years that explores adolescent girls’ experiences in accessing reproductive health services, with a particular focus on hidden inequalities embedded in routine service practices. This study employed a narrative literature review approach, drawing on articles retrieved from Scopus, PubMed, SpringerLink, Google Scholar, and nationally accredited Indonesian journals. Eligible studies were analyzed thematically using a narrative synthesis framework. Eleven national and international articles were included, encompassing quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods research, and systematic reviews. The findings indicate that inequalities in adolescent girls’ reproductive health services are multidimensional and often remain invisible in formal service assessments. Barriers extend beyond structural constraints, such as limited resources and geographic accessibility, to include individual, relational, and cultural factors. Social stigma, restrictive gender norms, concerns about confidentiality, and less empathetic communication with health care providers consistently shape adolescent girls’ decisions to delay, limit, or avoid service use. In addition, a persistent gap was identified between adolescent-friendly health policies and their implementation at the facility level. This review underscores the need for reproductive health services that are more experience-oriented, culturally responsive, and attentive to adolescents’ psychological safety to ensure meaningful access and utilization by adolescent girls.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization estimates that the global burden of cancer continues to increase. Chemotherapy is one of the most common treatments for cancer; however, it is associated with several side effects, including oral mucositis. Oral mucositis is a debilitating condition characterized by erythema, edema, and ulceration of the oral mucosa, which can significantly reduce patients’ quality of life. Oral hygiene is considered an important preventive measure to reduce its severity. Objective: To determine the relationship between oral hygiene compliance and the severity of oral mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 52 cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using an oral hygiene compliance questionnaire and the Oral Assessment Guide (OAG), and were analyzed using SPSS software with the Somers’ d test. Results: Most respondents had a moderate level of oral hygiene compliance (65%), and the majority experienced moderate oral mucositis severity (92.3%). Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between oral hygiene compliance and mucositis severity. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between oral hygiene compliance and the severity of oral mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Implication: These findings suggest that clinical factors such as chemotherapy regimen, dosage, and treatment duration may have a more dominant influence on the severity of oral mucositis than behavioral factors like oral hygiene, highlighting the need for comprehensive clinical management strategies.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the complications that can increase maternal morbidity and mortality. One of the non-pharmacological efforts believed to help reduce blood pressure is drinking bay leaf decoction. However, its effectiveness largely depends on pregnant women’s knowledge regarding its benefits. Objective:  To determine the relationship between pregnant women’s knowledge about the benefits of drinking bay leaf decoction and the reduction of hypertension among pregnant women at Midwife's Private Practice Banjarbaru City. Methods:  This research used an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique applied was accidental sampling, where samples were taken randomly without specific criteria. The respondents in this study were pregnant women, with a total of 36 respondents. The research instrument used was a questionnaire that measured the level of pregnant women’s knowledge about the benefits of consuming boiled bay leaves in relation to reducing hypertension. The data was analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with statistical programs. Univariate analysis was used to find out the frequency distribution of each variable, while bivariate analysis used the Chi-Square test. Result:  Based on data analysis, it was found that there was no significant relationship between pregnant women’s knowledge about the benefits of consuming boiled bay leaves and the incidence of hypertension (p > 0.05).  Conclusion: This indicates that good knowledge is not necessarily proportional to its application in daily life, as it is influenced by factors such as awareness and individual motivation. There was no relationship between the level of pregnant women’s knowledge about the benefits of drinking bay leaf decoction and the reduction of hypertension incidence at Midwife's Private Practice in 2025.

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period represents a critical stage in maternal recovery that extends beyond physical healing to include psychological, social, and spiritual well-being. Although contemporary postpartum care has increasingly adopted evidence-based approaches, spiritual and religious dimensions remain insufficiently integrated into routine maternity services, particularly in Muslim populations. Methods:  This narrative review synthesizes Islamic perspectives on postpartum care and examines their relevance to evidence-based midwifery practice. Results: The review discusses the Islamic understanding of postpartum (nifas), the ethical foundation of maternal care through maq??id al-shar?'ah, physical recovery, psychological and spiritual well-being, family support, and contemporary clinical issues, including postpartum contraception, sexual health, and religious-sensitive maternity care. Areas of scholarly disagreement and their implications for clinical decision-making are also examined to identify opportunities for integrating religious values with modern maternal healthcare. By bringing together Islamic principles and current evidence, this review provides a conceptual framework for holistic postpartum care that supports culturally responsive, woman-centred, and evidence-based midwifery practice for Muslim women.
