Abstract

Background: Hospitalization anxiety is an emotional response that arises when children experience fear, discomfort, or stress during hospital care. Digital storytelling therapy is a non-pharmacological technique that can help reduce anxiety levels, especially during vital signs examination. Purpose: To determine the effect of digital storytelling therapy on reducing anxiety levels in preschool children during vital signs examination in the Melati Ward of Sleman Regional Public Hospital. Method: This study employed a case study design involving a preschool-aged child (An. A) who experienced hospitalization anxiety. Anxiety levels were measured using the (DASS-42), which was completed by the parent based on observations of the child’s behavioral and emotional responses during vital signs examination. Instrument adaptation was conducted by adjusting the DASS statements into behavioral indicators of anxiety in preschool children, including crying, tense facial expressions, restlessness, refusal of procedures, and the level of cooperation during examination. Result: The results of the case study showed a decrease in anxiety levels after the implementation of digital storytelling therapy. The anxiety score on the first day was 12 (moderate anxiety), which decreased to 8 (mild anxiety) on the second day and to 4 (mild anxiety) on the third day. Conclusion: Digital storytelling therapy is effective in reducing hospitalization anxiety in preschool-aged children.

Abstract

Background: School-age children were considered vulnerable to health problems, especially dental health. In 2018, the prevalence of dental and oral problems in children aged 5–9 years in Indonesia reached 67.3%, in Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) 65.6%, and in Sleman 42.64%. Brushing teeth was an effort to prevent dental and oral problems in children, so health education through animated media became a promotive strategy to support the Indonesia Free from Caries 2030 program. Objective: To determine the effect of animated media on toothbrushing practices in children at SDN Margomulyo 1. Methods: This study was quantitative research using a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. It involved 47 students from grades 1 and 2 as samples using total sampling. Toothbrushing practice was measured using observation sheets before and after health education with animated media. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Marginal Homogeneity test with The SPSS Program. Results: Before the intervention with animated media, most respondents were in the poor category, with 42 respondents (89.4%), and 5 respondents (10.6%) were in the fair category. After the intervention, 46 respondents (97.9%) had good toothbrushing practices. Statistical analysis using the Marginal Homogeneity test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that animated media were effective in improving children’s toothbrushing practices and could be utilized in school health promotion.

Abstract

Background: Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall human health. The WHO reported that more than 700 million people worldwide experienced mental disorders in 2020, with depression and anxiety being the most common. Mental health is a multidimensional issue that requires comprehensive interventions, ranging from government policies and public education to capacity building for health workers. Methods: This research method uses descriptive analytic. The study instrument was used to collect primary data from various community health centers and sub-districts throughout Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY). Secondary data was also obtained from all health and social service offices.  Focus group discussions (FGDs) were also conducted with community health center and sub-district officers. A total of 53 respondents to obtain direct information regarding mental health services in each region. The study was conducted for approximately two months, from October 10, 2025, to December 10, 2025.  Quantitative descriptive analysis was used in this study. Results: Most regions lack adequate mental health service facilities, including the availability of necessary facilities and infrastructure. Each district/city in Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) has a relatively similar pattern of vulnerable groups dominating. Vulnerable groups at the sub-district level are not evenly distributed. The concentration of certain groups in specific areas underscores the importance of a spatial targeting approach in social welfare program planning. Based on the average score, Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta City are in the Good category, while Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunungkidul Regencies are in the Fair category. Conclusion: Strengthening synergy between agencies (sub-districts and sub-districts/kemantren) and collaborating with the community are crucial to addressing these vulnerable groups at risk of mental health problems. A data-driven approach and periodic territorial-based evaluations will determine more adaptive health service policies to the community's mental health conditions.

Abstract

Background:  Stress is one of the psychological problems frequently experienced by the elderly due to physical, social, and emotional changes associated with aging. High stress levels can reduce quality of life and increase the risk of physical and mental health problems. One of the non-pharmacological methods to reduce stress is lemongrass aromatherapy (Cymbopogon citratus), which contains citral and geraniol compounds known for their calming effects and ability to lower cortisol levels. Objective: To determine the effect of lemongrass aromatherapy on stress levels among the elderly at BPSTW Yogyakarta Unit Budi Luhur. Method: The study used a pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design. The population consisted of 80 elderly residents, with 57 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The instrument used was the DASS-42 questionnaire to measure stress levels before and after the intervention. The intervention was conducted using lemongrass aromatherapy via a reed diffuser twice daily for two weeks. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: Before the intervention, most respondents experienced moderate stress with an average score of 16.7. After the intervention, stress levels decreased to mild with an average score of 11.4. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of lemongrass aromatherapy on reducing stress levels among the elderly. Conclusion: Lemongrass aromatherapy has a significant effect on reducing stress levels among the elderly at BPSTW Yogyakarta Unit Budi Luhur. It can be used as a complementary non-pharmacological therapy to promote relaxation and improve psychological well-being in older adults.

Abstract

Adolescent-friendly reproductive health services have become a central priority in global and national health policies. However, utilization of these services by adolescent girls remains relatively low, even where programs and facilities are available. This condition indicates the presence of inequalities that are not fully captured by conventional indicators of service access. This article aims to critically examine scientific literature published over the past seven years that explores adolescent girls’ experiences in accessing reproductive health services, with a particular focus on hidden inequalities embedded in routine service practices. This study employed a narrative literature review approach, drawing on articles retrieved from Scopus, PubMed, SpringerLink, Google Scholar, and nationally accredited Indonesian journals. Eligible studies were analyzed thematically using a narrative synthesis framework. Eleven national and international articles were included, encompassing quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods research, and systematic reviews. The findings indicate that inequalities in adolescent girls’ reproductive health services are multidimensional and often remain invisible in formal service assessments. Barriers extend beyond structural constraints, such as limited resources and geographic accessibility, to include individual, relational, and cultural factors. Social stigma, restrictive gender norms, concerns about confidentiality, and less empathetic communication with health care providers consistently shape adolescent girls’ decisions to delay, limit, or avoid service use. In addition, a persistent gap was identified between adolescent-friendly health policies and their implementation at the facility level. This review underscores the need for reproductive health services that are more experience-oriented, culturally responsive, and attentive to adolescents’ psychological safety to ensure meaningful access and utilization by adolescent girls.
