Abstract

Background: A cesarean section is a surgical procedure to deliver a baby through an incision in the abdominal wall and uterus. This procedure can cause pain in the surgical wound. This pain can limit movement, which can lead to decreased blood circulation. Treatment options include warm compresses, cold compresses, acupressure, and foot massage. Foot massage is beneficial because the feet contain numerous nerves connected to internal organs, which can reduce pain. Purpose: This case study aims to illustrate the application of foot massage therapy for post-cesarean section pain. Method: The method used was a descriptive case study on one respondent who experienced post-cesarean section pain with a 10-minute foot massage intervention with olive oil, once a day, carried out for 2 days. Results: The case study showed that after 2 days of foot massage therapy, the pain experienced by the respondents decreased. On day 0, the pain scale before the foot massage therapy was 6 (moderate pain) and on day 1, it decreased to 3 (mild pain). Conclusion: Based on the case study results, 10 minutes of foot massage therapy, once daily for 2 days, can help reduce pain in post-cesarean section patients. The patient's pain scale decreased from 6 to 4 on day 0, and from 4 to 3 on day 1 after the foot massage therapy.

Abstract

Background: Violent behavior is a condition in which a person experiences uncontrolled anger expressed through verbal, physical, or psychological actions that may endanger oneself or others. Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) is a complementary therapy combining tapping at specific body points with a spiritual approach. Objective: To describe the application of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique to signs and symptoms of violent behavior. Method: A descriptive case study was conducted involving two patients with violent behavior in a maintenance condition at Sena Ward, Dr. Arif Zainudin Mental Hospital, Surakarta. Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique was administered for 10 minutes once daily for three days. Data were collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and a checklist of signs and symptoms based on RUFA. Results: Signs and symptoms in Mr. A decreased from 5 indicators to 0, while those in Mr. J decreased from 4 indicators to 1 after the intervention. Conclusion: The application of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique was followed by a decrease in signs and symptoms of violent behavior in both patients. Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique may be considered a complementary nursing intervention to support emotional response control in patients with violent behavior.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a common non-communicable disease among older adults and may occur as a result of decreased vascular elasticity associated with aging. Poorly controlled hypertension can lead to various complications. In addition to pharmacological therapy, laughter therapy can be used as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce blood pressure. Objective: This study aimed to describe the application of laughter therapy to reduce blood pressure in an older adult with hypertension in the working area of Pajangan Public Health Center, Bantul. Method: This study used a descriptive case study design involving one 64-year-old female older adult with hypertension. Laughter therapy was administered for 10 minutes, three times within one week. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and blood pressure measurements using a digital blood pressure monitor before and after each intervention session. Results: A reduction in blood pressure was observed following laughter therapy. During the first session, blood pressure decreased from 142/92 mmHg to 129/85 mmHg; during the second session, from 138/92 mmHg to 134/83 mmHg; and during the third session, from 130/84 mmHg to 119/80 mmHg. The participant also reported feeling more relaxed, experiencing improved sleep quality, and having reduced complaints of neck stiffness. Conclusion: Laughter therapy may be considered a complementary non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce blood pressure in older adults with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Fall risk among older adults is a common health problem associated with age-related decline in physical functions. Several factors may contribute to fall risk, including advanced age, sex, history of falls, comorbidities, use of walking aids, as well as impaired balance and memory. Objective: This study aimed to describe the use of the Morse Fall Scale (MFS) to assess fall risk among older adults. Method: This study used a descriptive study design involving 25 older adults who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and simple physical examinations using the Morse Fall Scale (MFS). Results:  The results showed that 12 respondents (48%) had a high risk of falls, 5 respondents (20%) had a low risk of falls, and 8 respondents (32%) had no risk of falls. Based on gait assessment, 23 respondents (92%) had no gait impairment, while 2 respondents (8%) had gait impairment. Conclusion: The Morse Fall Scale (MFS) can be used to identify fall risk levels among older adults in a quick and simple manner, thereby assisting healthcare professionals in implementing fall prevention measures.

Abstract

Background: Dyspepsia is pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by symptoms such as feeling full quickly (fullness), bloating, or feeling excessively full despite eating little (early satiety). Objective: To determine the effectiveness of applying warm compress therapy with Warm Water Zack (WWZ) on reducing pain intensity in dyspepsia patients in the Emergency Room of Panembahan Senopati Bantul Regional Hospital. Methods: This study used a descriptive case study approach of five patients with a diagnosis of dyspepsia. Pain intensity was measured using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) modified from the Wong-Baker Pain Rating Scale, before and after a 15-minute Warm Compress with Zack’s Warm Water Compress (WWZ). Results: Peri Prior to the application of Zack’s Warm Water Warm Compress (WWZ), the average pain level in all five patients was on a scale of 1-6 with (mild-moderate pain). After being given the intervention for 15 minutes, the average pain intensity decreased to a scale of 1-3. All five patients showed a consistent decrease in pain intensity, which proves that Zack’s Warm Water Zack (WWZ) therapy is able to reduce pain in dyspepsia patients in the emergency room. Conclusion: The Application of warm compress therapy with Zack’s Warm Water (WWZ) may decrease the intensity of pain in Dyspepsia patients. This intervention can be used as a companion to pharmacological therapy in the Emergency Department.

Abstract

Background: Low self-esteem is a condition in which individuals negatively evaluate themselves, feel worthless, lack self-confidence, and are unable to perform their roles as before. This condition can hinder the recovery process for patients with mental disorders, necessitating non-pharmacological interventions, one of which is positive affirmation therapy. Objective: To describe the application of positive affirmation therapy to improve self-esteem in patients with low self-esteem in the Sadewa Ward of Dr. Arif Zainuddin Mental Hospital, Central Java Provincial Government. Methods: This study used a descriptive case study method on one patient with a nursing diagnosis of low self-esteem. The intervention was carried out for 3 consecutive days, once a day for ± 15–20 minutes. The instruments used were an observation sheet for signs and symptoms of low self-esteem and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Results: After positive affirmation therapy, the score for signs and symptoms of low self-esteem decreased from 15 to 3. The RSES score increased from 17 to 30. The patient appeared more confident, began to make eye contact, spoke more clearly, and interacted more actively. Conclusion:  Positive affirmation therapy can be used as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to support improvement in self-esteem and reduce signs and symptoms of low self-esteem.
