Abstract

Da‘wah represents a fundamental mission of Islam aimed at guiding humanity through ethical communication and intellectual engagement. Among the Qur’anic approaches to da‘wah, hikmah functions as a central methodological principle that emphasizes knowledge, moderation, empathy, and contextual understanding. This article examines hikmah as an effective method of da‘wah and investigates how it was practically embodied through the preaching activities of early Muslim women during the Prophetic era. Employing qualitative method and historical analysis based on Qur’anic teachings, Prophetic traditions, and early Islamic historical sources, the study explores women’s participation in religious instruction, transmission of hadith, moral counselling, social reform, and family-based religious guidance. The findings of the research reveal that early Muslim women were active representative in the dissemination of Islamic teachings and applied wisdom-centred strategies that strengthened communal learning and spiritual development. Their approaches reflected intellectual authority, ethical persuasion, and socially responsive communication, demonstrating that women’s da‘wah contributions were integral to the formation of the early Muslim community.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of truth within Islamic education through the intellectual framework of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. The primary objective is to analyze how Al-Attas conceptualizes truth (ḥaqq) and its role in shaping the aims, content, and methodology of Islamic education. The research employs a qualitative, library-based methodology, drawing upon Al-Attas’s major works, including Islam and Secularism and The Concept of Education in Islam, alongside relevant secondary sources. A thematic analysis is used to identify key patterns and principles related to truth and knowledge. The findings reveal that Al-Attas views truth as a metaphysical and epistemological reality grounded in divine revelation, rather than merely empirical or relative constructs. He emphasizes that true education (ta’dīb) integrates knowledge, ethics, and spiritual development, aiming to produce a balanced individual who recognizes the proper place of things in the order of creation. The study further shows that the loss of adab leads to confusion and the distortion of truth in modern education systems. Therefore, re-centering truth based on the Islamic worldview is essential for reforming contemporary Muslim education. This research highlights the enduring relevance of Al-Attas’s thought in addressing current educational challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the Qur’ānic concept of Shayṭānic influence at the micro-cognitive level and its role in the divine testing of human beings. The Qur’ān presents human life as a purposeful moral examination (Qur’an 67:2), wherein Shayṭān is granted limited psychological access described as waswasah (Qur’an 7:20; 20:120). This influence operates only when human consciousness momentarily disengages from revelation, allowing distorted suggestions to affect moral perception and reasoning (Qur’an 2:268; 14:22). The Qur’ān restricts this influence through explicit divine command, emphasizing that Satan has no authority over sincere servants (Qur’an 15:42). Through thematic textual analysis, this paper argues that the Qur’ānic worldview frames human success as dependent on continuous remembrance of Allah, adherence to revelation, and resistance to fleeting internal disruptions (Qur’an 16:98–100; 7:201). The study concludes that the micro-sphere of Shayṭānic influence serves as a calibrated mechanism for revealing sincerity, strengthening spiritual vigilance, and fulfilling the divine purpose of human existence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic religious counselors in promoting family education values at the Office of Religious Affairs in Arungkeke Subdistrict, Jeneponto Regency, using a socio-cultural approach. In the context of the dynamics of modern Muslim families, religious counselors play a strategic role as agents of change by instilling faith-based educational values in society, particularly among prospective brides and grooms. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of counseling activities carried out at the KUA. The findings indicate that religious counselors actively promote family education through premarital counseling, direct education during the marriage registration process, and the use of both print and digital media. The communication strategies employed combine persuasive and cultural approaches, taking into account the social conditions and local wisdom of the Arungkeke community. These findings highlight that the role of religious counselors is not merely administrative but also educational and transformative in fostering family resilience based on Islamic values. The study recommends strengthening counselor capacity and cross-sector collaboration to expand the reach and effectiveness of counseling at the grassroots level.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the modern era faces challenges such as declining learning motivation and the perception that religious instruction lacks relevance amidst the wave of digitalization. This study examines the innovation of the Quantum Teaching and Learning (QTL) model as a strategic solution to create an active, meaningful, and enjoyable PAI learning process. The study aims to analyze the fundamental concepts, principles, and application of QTL within the context of PAI, as well as to identify its innovations and impact on student learning outcomes. Employing a literature review and conceptual analysis approach, the study explores the QTL framework—grounded in the principle of "bringing their world into our world and taking our world into theirs"—and the TANDUR syntax (Grow, Experience, Name, Demonstrate, Repeat, Celebrate). The findings indicate that the key innovation of applying QTL to PAI lies in the integration of Islamic values—such as intention (*niyyah*), contemplation (*tafakkur*), trustworthiness (*amanah*), and gratitude (*syukr*)—into every stage of learning. This approach not only optimizes cognitive aspects but also holistically addresses the affective and psychomotor domains. The teacher's role shifts to that of a facilitator, motivator, and role model capable of fostering an inspiring learning environment. In conclusion, the QTL model proves relevant and effective in addressing contemporary PAI challenges and holds significant potential for shaping a generation of Muslims who are knowledgeable, faithful, and possess noble character.

Abstract

This article examines the complex interaction between globalisation and cultural diversity from an Islamic perspective, a significant challenge contemporary Muslims face.Common responses often get caught in an unproductive dichotomy between reactionary rejection and uncritical assimilation, thus requiring a more sophisticated and balanced framework for principled cultural engagement. The research gap addressed by this study lies in the tripartite synthesis that has not been systematically undertaken in the academic literature, which tends to analyse these thinkers separately or in a two-way comparison.Aiming to construct a holistic model of Islamic cultural interaction, this study employs a comparative-analytical methodology on the corpus of works of three prominent Islamic thinkers from different eras: al-Ghazālī (classical),Ibn Taimiyyah (medieval),and Seyyed Hossein Nasr (contemporary),focusing on their methodological principles to avoid anachronism. The main finding of this research is a complementary and coherent three-layered model. The first layer, taken from al-Ghazālī,presents a pragmatic epistemological filter for assessing foreign knowledge and culture based on the principle of maṣlaḥah (public interest) and its compatibility with maqāṣīd syarī‘ah.The second layer, built on the thought of Ibn Taimiyyah, functions as a theological bulwark protecting core identity through the concepts of tasyabbuh (prohibited imitation) and bid‘ah (religious innovation),which preserve the integrity of creed and ritual.Inspired by Seyyed Hossein Nasr, the third and most fundamental layer offers a profound metaphysical critique, diagnosing globalisation as a universal manifestation of desacralised Modernity, and calling for restoring “Tradition” as an authentic cultural foundation. This synthesis model has proven more resilient and sophisticated than the common binary approach. The implications of this research are significant both theoretically and practically. It offers a principled, critical, and balanced framework for Muslims to engage with the global world. This model provides an intellectual toolkit that can be applied to assess complex contemporary issues such as global Islamic finance, gender discourse, and the digital media economy, thereby encouraging confident and constructive engagement while maintaining religious integrity and contributing to international discourse.

Abstract

Inclusive governance and equitable sustainable wealth distribution is a core challenge in contemporary economic and political leadership around the world, occasioned by exclusionary, restrictive, selective, and discriminatory systems of governance. Unlike what it entails in Western models of governance, Islam has inherently established a system of governance that caters for people’s welfare, advocates accountability, emphasizes equity and justice, and shows concern for neighbours and community members irrespective of status, gender, ethnicity, religion, political, and economic class, etc. The problem, as observed in this paper, is rooted in the method of governance in Nigeria, which is based on undue accumulation and excessively gives power to a few for wealth accumulation. As such, this results in abject poverty within the circle of the middle and lower-middle class of the citizenry. The paper, therefore, adopts historical methodology and sources to assess relevant literature, with particular emphasis on primary sources of Islam. The paper recommends that governance should recognize the dignity, welfare, and economic needs of every member of the society, as Islam recommends inclusivity in its system of governance and circulation of wealth among others. The paper draws the conclusion that the Islamic system of governance encourages inclusivity and circulation of wealth through its proportionate use of sadaqah (charity), zakah (alms), endowment (waqf), inheritance (mirath), etc.

Abstract

The decline in morals among Muslims now shows an important need to reassess the role of Aqidah Education in family institutions. Although moral issues are often discussed from a social and psychological perspective, the teachings of Aqidah as the main guide to moral development are still not given due emphasis. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the importance of Aqidah Education as a guide to moral development of individuals and families according to an Islamic perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach through document analysis or book study by examining primary and secondary sources such as the Quran, Hadith, books of turaths, contemporary works in the field of Aqidah and fiqh usrah and several academic articles. The results of the study found that Aqidah Education based on monotheism plays a fundamental role in forming strong, consistent and resilient morals, in addition to being the main bulwark in facing the influence of thoughts and lifestyles that contradict Islamic values. Finally, it also emphasizes the importance of strengthening Aqidah Education in the family to ensure the resilience of Muslim morals as a whole.
