Abstract

The Quran is an eternal divine miracle with purposeful and coherent verses and chapters. However, themes are distributed throughout the text. Today, orientalists' efforts to present the Quran as scattered and disorganized on the one hand and disagreements among Quranic scholars regarding the coherence of the Quranic surahs on the other have caused the divine book to be exposed to fallacies. In this study, the aim is to examine the principles of discovering the purposes of the surahs of the Holy Quran from the perspective of the two sects. Therefore, the most important principles used by the proponents of the structural coherence theory were analyzed and criticized, including the containment (revelation) of the structure of the surahs; the limitation of the Holy Quran to the word surah; the miracle of the Quran and its relationship with the purposes of the surah. This theory has opened new horizons in the contemplation and interpretation of the Holy Quran and has caused the coherence in a surah to be seen as a whole and as a network. The research method in this article is descriptive-analytical, in that first evidence and data are collected, and then their logical analysis is carried out.

Abstract

Abstract. In a digitalized environment, Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEI) must organize knowledge effectively to uphold their fundamental values and principles. The concept of IKM is a primary concern for IHEIs, particularly among administrators, scholars, and educators. Within the scope of this study, IKM is regarded as an essential strategic approach for knowledge development in IHEIs. This perspective arises not only from its systematic differentiation, criteria, and functions but also from its ability to enhance knowledge responsibility, legitimacy, truth, and sustainability. In the context of the digital era, given that knowledge is a critical resource for IHEIs, it is crucial to understand how digital innovation can add value to sustaining IKM. A robust IHEI should institutionalize continuous learning and sharing protocols, leveraging digitalization, IoT, and big data systems as the core engines of its strategy, which is firmly rooted in the primary knowledge of the Quran and Hadith. IKM acknowledges the transformative impact of digital innovation on IHEIs, improving efficiency and the quality of knowledge by combining human and technological resources to generate sustainable value. A centralized digital reservoir of Islamic knowledge from around the world can help establish organizational knowledge as an asset. This approach can optimize organizational performance and drive growth by harnessing excellent human resources, fostering a healthy organizational structure and culture, deploying smart IT infrastructure, ensuring big data digital storage, and utilizing advanced artificial intelligence systems effectively.

Abstract

Educational institutions contribute to both religious and secular education by helping students grow in their morals and ethical values to turn them into responsible persons in society. During the colonial period in Sri Lanka, various religious schools were established to achieve this goal. Within the institution, Ahadhiyah schools were formed in 1951 to improve Muslim students’ ethical and moral standards by providing Islamic education. These days, Ahadhiyah schools are having difficulty promoting moral values, and this has led to more problems with student behaviour. In this background, the present study aims to identify Ahadhiyah schools’ role in developing students’ moral and ethical values. 285 students currently attending Ahadhiyah schools in Kegalle district of Sri Lanka, took part in a questionnaire survey conducted by researchers. The convenience sampling method was used to choose the sample. Besides, parents, principals, and educated individuals were interviewed in an unstructured manner, and the analysis was done using the coding method. The findings of the study indicate that the Ahadhiyah schools within the designated area have been ineffective in fostering the moral development of students, resulting in various manifestations of selfishness, rivalry, jealousy, disrespect towards elders, and discrimination. Furthermore, the number of truant students has been increasing due to traditional teaching methods, and parents are not adequately fulfilling their responsibility of ensuring their children's proper attendance at schools, further impeding the development of moral values. This study provides valuable insights aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and raising awareness of Ahadhiyah schools for positive change. The Kegalle District Ahadhiya School's and Central Ahadhiyah Federation will use the findings to guide future decision-making.
