Abstract

This research deals with one kind of expressive illocutionary acts which is Attitude that produced and the meaning of the character’s utterances in the movie Holidate. The researcher used theories from Searle (1985) in order to find out the Attitude of Expressive illocutionary act. Meanwhile, to analyze the meanings of the character's utterance, the researcher used the theory that proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985) regarding the theory context of the situation. Observation method and note taking technique is used in this study to collect the data from movie Holidate. This study used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing types of expressive illocutionary acts and meaning based on the context of situation. The results of this study show there are 19 data found in the character’s used an attitude expressive illocutionary act. In this movie there are a lot of Attitudes that are found in the utterances of all the characters, because this movie tells the life of two teenagers who are in love and full of tension.

Abstract

Abstract Speech act is the part of people utterances. In order to make the hearer to do the what the speaker wants, directives type of ilocutionary act can be used to this situation. This study used the theory proposed by Yule (1996) about the types of illocutionary act in ordered to answer the first problem. Meanwhile to answer the second problem this study used the theory meaning that proposed by Leech (1981) and the theory proposed by Halliday (1989) about the context of situation. This study were used the descriptive qualitative method. There are 16 directives data that were analyzed in this study. According to the analysis there are 13(18,25%) in the function of commanding, 1(6,25%) data in the function of orders, 1(6.25%) data in the function of requests and 1(6,25%) in the function of suggestion. The result of this study showed that the function of command became the most dominant expression that used by the character’s utterance on the UP movie. Besides that there are four types of meaning that found on the character’s utterance which conduct of the directives types of illocutionary act on the UP movie. Those data are included 10 (62,5%) data of conceptual meaning, 4(25%) data of connotative meaning, 1(6,25%) data of social meaning and 1(6,25%) data of thematic meaning. Abstract

The aims of this study are to analyze the types of flouting maxim and the reason for flouting maxim found in the Alita Battle Angel movie. Flouting maxims is an important thing to consider in making communication more effective and making the sentences acceptable for the listener. This study focused on analyzing the types of flouting maxim and the reason why the characters flout the maxim by using the theory from Grice (1975) is used to classify the types of flouting maxims and the theory from Leech (1983) is used to find out the reason for flouting the maxims. This study used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data and this study used note-taking technique in collecting the data. The result of the study showed that the types of flouting maxims found in the movie are 20 data. The highest occurrence in the Alita Battle Angel movie is the flouting maxim of relevance which takes 10 data (50%). The finding shows that the highest occurrence of flouting maxim is the flouting maxim of relevance and the collaborative reasons become the most dominant reason for flouting maxim in this movie.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the syntactic functions of derivational suffixes forming adjectives with reference to user reviews of M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation on Ulta Beauty’s Official Website. In collecting the data, the library research method was applied and supported by note taking techniques. The data findings were analyzed through a descriptive qualitative method in which, to begin with, the data were presented in the form of tree a diagram to analyze the syntactic functions. Furthermore, the analysis is served along with an explanation. In presenting the data, both formal and informal methods were applied. Formally, the data were served in form of a tree diagram and table, then further analysis was described informally. The result shows that from 73 total findings, three syntactic functions of adjectives were found, namely attributive with 29 occurrences (39,73%), predicative with 42 occurrences (57,53%), and postpositive with 2 occurrences (2,74%).

Abstract

This research entitled An Analysis of Psychological Aspect of The Main Character in Cruella Movie aims to analyze behavior and identify the psychological aspects of the main character in Cruella Movie. The data was taken from the Cruella movie which are from scenes and dialogues that containing the Psychological Aspects of Human Motivation. The data were analyzed using the theory proposed by Benhardt (1953) to identify the Psychological Aspects of Human Motivation. In this study, the data were collected using the observation method. The data were observed using note-taking techniques to identify and analyze the data. Data were analyzed using qualitative methods and presented descriptively. The results of this study obtained 24 data relating to the Psychological Aspects of Human Motivation experienced by the main character.

Abstract

Saat ini, penggabungan dua bahasa dalam proses komunikasi sering terjadi dalam masyarakat dwibahasa yang disebut alih kode. Penelitian ini membahas tentang alih kode dalam tuturan Daniel Mananta di PodCast miliknya. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan khusus (1) untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis alih kode yang digunakan oleh Daniel Mananta dalam Podcast miliknya; (2) mengidentifikasi fungsi alih kode yang digunakan dalam tuturan Daniel Mananta. Penelitian ini membahas tentang alih kode bahasa Indonesia-Inggris dalam tuturan Daniel Mananta pada PodCast di Spotify. Metode kualitatif digunakan untuk penelitian ini (1989: 122) dan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Appel dan Muysken (1987). Jenis alih kode yang merupakan intra-sentential switching paling sering digunakan dalam tuturan Daniel Mananta karena Daniel Mananta lebih nyaman menggunakan kata, klausa, dan frasa dalam untuk menganalisis data yang dikumpulkan dari sepuluh podcast. Metode tersebut digunakan untuk memberikan gambaran yang jelas tentang data menurut teori yang dikemukakan oleh Romaine satu kalimat untuk menyampaikan pesan motivasi. Metalinguistik merupakan fungsi alih kode yang dominan dalam tuturan Daniel Mananta dengan 81 data (44,95%) sebagai hasil akhir dari penelitian ini. Hal itu iterjadi karena Daniel Mananta ingin membuat peserta lain terkesan dengan pertunjukan kemahiran berbahasa.

Abstract

The aims of this study are to analyze the types of maxims that are flouted by the characters and to describe why the characters flout the maxim. This study is entitled “The Types of Flouting Maxims Found in the Onward Movie”. The study focuses on the flouting maxims in Onward movie. This study focused on the theory of Grice (1975) in analyzing the type of flouting maxims and a theory from Leech (1983) in analyzing the reason behind the maxim that was flouted by the characters in Onward movie. This study used a descriptive qualitative method and use both formal and informal methods. The result of the study showed that the types of flouting maxim found in the movie are 16 data. The dominant flouting maxim uttered by the characters in this movie is the flouting maxim of relevance with the frequency of 7 (40%).

Abstract

This study entitled “Command Directive Illocutionary Acts found in Hobbs & Shaw Movie” It aims for finding out the command directive illocutionary acts and the context of situation of directive illocutionary acts utterance expressed by the main characters. The command directive illocutionary acts are discussed using the theory of directive illocutionary acts proposed by Kreidler (1998: 189-190) and the context of situation is discussed using theory of the context of situation proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985: 12). In collecting the data, the writer watched the movie and marked the utterances that contain command directive illocutionary acts in the movie script. The method used in analyzing data was descriptive qualitative method. The writer classified the data based on the sentence structure of the command directive illocutionary act and then analyzes the context of the situation. In presenting the findings, formal and informal methods are used. The formal method is used to show the percentage of sentence structure of command directive illocutionary acts using table and the informal method is used to explain the data descriptively through words. In this study, 31 data were found regarding illocutionary acts of directive orders.

Abstract

This study aimed (1) to find out the types of code switching found in Cinta Laura’s utterances on Deddy's corner program in Trans TV and (2) to analyse the reason of code switching found in Cinta Laura’s utterances on Deddy's corner program in Trans TV. The data were utterances spoken by Cinta Laura in four videos taken from Trans TV Youtube Channel. This study used qualitative method in analysing the data. The data were collected by observation method through watching, listening and transcribing the utterances. There were two basic theories used in this study. The first theory is taken from Poplack (1980) about types of code switching and the second theory is taken from Hoffman (1991) about reasons of code switching. The result of the study shows 23 utterances of code switching. Those are intra-Sentential switching with ten 10 utterances with percentage 43,5%, 9 data of extra-sentential switching or tag switching with percentage 39,13%, 4 data of inter-sentential switching with percentage 17,39%. The most dominant reason is interjection (inserting sentence filler and sentence connector), the second reason of being emphatic about something, the third is talking about particular topic, the lowest occurrence of the reason was repetition used for clarification and intention of clarifying speech content.

Abstract

This study focused on analyzing how the main characters from Five Feet Apart movie developed their character as the story progressed by using the theory of character proposed by Kenney (1966). The aim of this research was to identify how the main characters develop their character through their actions and dialogues by applying the qualitative method through several steps, such as selecting a movie and collecting data, watching the movie thoroughly, and the last step was note-taking and determining the type of the main character found in the movie by using character theory, specifically the type of character by Kenney (1966). The presentation of the analysis was supported by providing conversations from the movie to make the description clearer and coherent. It was found in this study that the main characters experienced a change from flat/simple characters to round/complex characters as the story progressed which can obviously be seen from the characters’ actions and dialogues.
